Five members of adulterated fuel racket arrested in Lucknow
Agency: Last Updated: August 12, 2025, 20:00 IST Representational image (Image: News18) Lucknow, Aug 12 (PTI) The Uttar Pradesh Police on Tuesday said they have busted a gang allegedly involved in mixing ethanol and solvent chemicals in stolen petrol and diesel on a massive scale for sale, with the arrest of five people. The arrests were made following a raid conducted around 2.15 am near Lodhamau village on the Kisan Path highway towards Sitapur. Police said that adulterated fuel can cause serious damage to vehicles, often leading to breakdowns much earlier than normal. According to an STF statement, Ramu Yadav, Sukhbir Kumar, Sujit Kumar, Rinku Singh, and Mohammad Deenu were nabbed with a tanker carrying 15,000 litres of petrol and 5,000 litres of diesel, as well as drums of ethanol, solvent chemicals and petrol. The STF team also seized multiple vehicles, fuel extraction pipes, motorised filler machines, a generator, mobile phones, Indian Oil invoices, and cash. Investigators allege the gang used to steal fuel from tankers, replace the siphoned quantity with solvent chemicals, and then deliver the altered fuel to buyers in Lucknow and surrounding districts. The accused reportedly sold the product for Rs 75 to Rs 80 per litre, while buying the solvents for about Rs 30 per litre. Tests by the excise department confirmed the seized liquid contained ethanol and solvents. Swipe Left For Next Video View all STF officials said one of the accused, Rinku Singh, admitted to being involved in the illegal trade for years and had even served jail time in 2024 for similar offences. A case has been registered under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Excise Act, officials said, adding that a hunt was on for other members of the network still on the run. UP Police busts fake marksheet racket in Meerut, 3 arrested
Agency: PTI Last Updated: Meerut (UP), Aug 12 (PTI) Uttar Pradesh Police has dismantled a racket that for years forged and altered marksheets to secure students' admission to higher educational institutions, officials said on Tuesday. According to the Special Task Force (STF) of Uttar Pradesh, three men, including the alleged mastermind of the racket, have been taken into custody in Meerut. The accused — identified as Jitendra Singh, Shivkumar and Nikhil Tomar — are all residents of Meerut district, STF Additional Superintendent of Police Brijesh Kumar Singh said. The STF seized one computer, one printer, hard drives, school stamps, forged marksheets for high school and intermediate levels, fake transfer certificates and a car from the accused, the officer said. Investigators alleged the members of the racket charged students around Rs 10,000 to inflate their grades and get forged marksheets issued, Rs 3,000 for forged transfer certificates, and Rs 10,000-15,000 for backdated marksheets from the Uttar Pradesh State Open School Board — without the students ever taking an exam. Police said an associate in Lucknow would prepare the documents, which were then couriered within 10 to 15 days. The STF believes the network was operating for more than a decade. A case has been registered at Ganganagar police station under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), police said. SAPS warns officers against wearing buffs with uniform
SAPS reminded officers that they may not wear buffs because buffs conceal identity and breach the code of conduct. Only specialised units, the Special Task Force (STF), National Intervention Unit (NIU), and Tactical Response Team (TRT), may wear buffs, and only during authorised and approved operations. SAPS stated that under no circumstances may the police emblem appear on any buff. The service warned that criminals posing as police officers often wear buffs to hide their faces. If such concealment became common among officers, it would make it difficult for the public to tell genuine police from impostors. To prevent this, SAPS requires all members to be identifiable at all times, which includes the compulsory display of name tags. Illegal MTPs: 5 civil surgeons, medics under scanner as health dept turns focus on staff
Chandigarh: After enhancing monitoring of the MTP (medical termination of pregnancy) centres and kit suppliers to curb illegal abortions and sex determination tests in the state, the Haryana health department has now turned the focus on its own officials to give impetus to its efforts. The health authorities have reportedly put 192 medicos, paramedics, and field staff on notice. They have also withdrawn the powers of five civil surgeons under the PC PNDT Act after assessing their performances. According to information, the committee monitoring the reverse tracking system of MTPs has so far encountered 790 such cases where govt or private medicos performed MTPs on women who already had one or two girl children and the pregnancy had crossed over 12 weeks. The health authorities furnished 824 such cases wherein the MTPs of expectant mothers were done between January and June. Officials informed that the 192 officials who had been served with the notices include senior medical officers (SMOs), medical officers (MOs), nurses, and auxiliary nurse midwives (ANMs). The ANMs have the responsibility of monitoring activities of expectant mothers, especially those already having one or two girl children. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like This Bedtime Drink Flattened Her Belly in Days Vitalgethealth Click Here Undo Referring to the action taken against the five civil surgeons, health officials informed that the districts where the charge and powers of civil surgeons under the PNDT Act had been withdrawn include Ambala, Bhiwani, Palwal, Sirsa, and Fatehabad. All these districts share interstate borders with Punjab, Rajasthan, and Himachal Pradesh. Acting on the directions of the additional chief secretary, health, Sudhir Rajpal, who also heads the Special Task Force (STF) to improve the sex ratio at birth, the director general of health services assigned the powers vested in these civil surgeons under the PNDT Act to their counterparts in the neighbouring districts. It is learned that the action against the civil surgeons followed reports of declining or fluctuating sex ratio in these districts and other shortcomings detected by the STF between January and July. "So far as notices to health officials are concerned, we are waiting for their replies. We shall wait for the explanation of civil surgeons from these five districts as well before proceeding further," said Dr Virender Yadav, director health services, National Health Mission Haryana, and member of the STF. For the last four months, Haryana health authorities have intensified efforts to improve the sex ratio at birth, which reached 904 in July. Some of the steps taken by the health authorities include roping in transgenders to motivate the mothers of newborn girls, intensified action against the illegal sale of MTP kits, registration of FIRs against violators, sealing of ultrasound centres, and prosecution of certain IVF centres.
