Ghaziabad: Commuters suffers as waterlogging deteriorates CISF Road stretch in Indirapuram

A stretch of the CISF Road located behind the sewage treatment plant (STP) complex in Indirapuram has become a headache for daily commuters due to waterlogging which has also deteriorated the road's condition. The CISF road is a major road that connects commuters to Noida, Indirapuram, National Highway 9, Mohan Nagar, and other areas. Notably, the CISF road is a major road that connects commuters to Noida, Indirapuram, National Highway 9, Mohan Nagar, and other areas. The Ghaziabad municipal corporation officials said the road was not properly compacted during reconstruction, leading to the situation. Residents said that the CISF road stretch behind the STP facility suffers major waterlogging during monsoon season. 'Water remains logged at the low-lying stretch behind the STP. It does not drain out and deteriorates the road surface. This scenario has ensued this monsoon season as well, and thousands of daily commuters are wading through the stretch, filled with water and muck. It is also becoming a major choke point during peak hours,' said Mohan Sangwan, a resident of Shakti Khand, Indirapuram. Residents said that about 150-200 metres-long stretch, lying between the fuel pump station and the Kanawani culvert on the CISF Road, generally gets affected during rains. Rahul Kumar, a commuter, said that commuters, especially on two-wheelers, find it very difficult to pass through the depleted stretch. 'The upper surface of the road has deteriorated in patches at several spots, and once there is heavy rain, the potholes are hard to spot. Commuters tend to slow down speed, and this results in traffic congestion. It is a regular feature here whenever there is rain,' Kumar added. Officials of the Ghaziabad municipal corporation said that when the road was relaid after a water pipeline project was taken up in 2021-22, the compacting (that ensures a stable and durable foundation) was not done properly. 'Due to insufficient compacting of the road, the area has become low-lying, and the issue of stagnant water persists. The stagnant water has also deteriorated the road surface. A long-term solution is to rebuild the road stretch. However, we will get the issue checked so that commuters do not face issues,' said the corporation's chief engineer NK Chaudhary. The CISF road connects commuters directly to NH-9 and has a number of residential high-rises adjacent to the four-laned road. It is a major road that is used by thousands of commuters to commute to Noida from Ghaziabad city and other trans-Hindon localities. The Indirapuram township is now managed by the corporation after it was handed over to the civic agency by the Ghaziabad development authority under an MoU signed on September 6, 2024.

Rural schools are suffering most from an 'exodus' of teachers, an MSP has said, after a report came out showing high job insecurity among the profession. Scottish Conservatives MSP Alexander Burnett, who has campaigned for saving nurseries and schools from closure across Aberdeenshire, said the Scottish Government urgently needs to address what he called 'the continuing scourge of temporary contracts' in teaching. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Alexander Burnett MSP has warned rural schools are suffering the most from an exodus of teachers after a new report found 80 per cent faced insecure employment over the last year, with only 12.5 per cent moving into permanent posts for the upcoming term. | Scottish Conservatives The politician's comments come as a report by grassroots organisation Scottish Teachers for Permanence (STP), a group dedicated to advocating for job security and stability for more than 4,500 teachers across the country, published alarming responses to a recent survey on job security in the profession. Answers from 555 respondents found 80 per cent faced insecure employment in teaching in Scotland over the last year. The report showed just 12.5 per cent of teachers interviewed are moving into permanent posts for the upcoming term. Almost half, (47.9 per cent) said they face either supply-only work or unemployment for 2025-26. Teachers interviewed came from some 30 different regions all over Scotland, from Fife to Orkney, the Highlands to the Scottish Borders, with authors saying the geographic spread demonstrates that employment insecurity transcends urban–rural divides and affects every Scottish local authority area. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad The largest cohort (42 per cent) was teachers between 25 and 34 years old. An overwhelming 80 per cent (446 respondents) work primarily in primary education, with secondary representing 12.6 per cent. Some 60.4 per cent of teachers responding to the survey said they believe their professional service is not recognised by local authorities in recruitment. The STP report said 42 per cent of those who responded to the survey have two or more years of continuous experience in teaching. Mr Burnett said the findings will particularly impact rural regions, some of which struggle with recruitment. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Scottish ministers said local authorities are responsible for the recruitment and deployment of teachers. They acknowledged there is a challenge around recruitment of teachers in certain geographical areas. Mr Burnett said: 'These alarming findings highlight the deepening crisis that exists within the Scottish education system, particularly in our rural schools,' the MSP for Aberdeenshire West said. 'Teachers are at the end of their tether, and it is time the SNP government urgently addressed their concerns. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad 'We cannot allow a situation to continue where teachers are struggling to put food on the table, while schools in regions such as Aberdeenshire are struggling to recruit teachers. 'Many are also uncertain over what their future employment prospects are after completing their probation period amid the continuing scourge of temporary contracts. 'Losing them will significantly hamper literacy and numeracy levels, as well as limiting opportunities for pupils to learn foreign languages and technical skills. 'The Scottish Government must take notice of these findings by giving teachers secure employment in rural areas so every child has the same educational opportunities, regardless of where they live.' Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad The Scottish Government pointed to a £186.5 million sum it is giving to local authorities this year to restore teacher numbers to 2023 levels and maximise the number of teaching posts available. A spokesperson said: 'It is encouraging to note that the number of teachers in our classrooms has increased by more than 2,500 over the past decade and the number in permanent posts has remained stable at more than 80 per cent over the past 10 years. 'We recognise there is a challenge around the recruitment of teachers in certain geographical areas, and we are taking action to address this. For example, through the Preference Waiver Payment, probationary teachers can receive up to £8,000 if they opt to complete their probation anywhere in Scotland, particularly in remote or rural areas.'

PCB directs apartment complexes in Kochi to submit undertakings for sewage treatment plants

Kochi: Kerala state pollution control board (KSPCB) directed apartment complexes in the city, which are facing action for not installing sewage treatment plants (STPs), to submit undertakings by Wednesday as part of the move to extend deadline for installing STPs. KSPCB will conduct a hearing of residents of the apartments on Friday, and the move is expected to lead to a permanent solution for sewage treatment issues of more than 70 apartment complexes. Kerala state electricity board (KSEB) issued disconnection notices to 71 apartment complexes as per the directive of KSPCB, following high court directive to KSPCB to ensure STP facilities in these buildings. The decision, which warns of cutting off electricity to over 1,500 households within a week, sparked widespread concern among residents. While considering an impleading petition regarding the case, the high court asked PCB to consider granting reasonable time by demanding undertakings seeking time for compliance. Now, KSPCB started issuing notices to apartment complexes to submit the undertakings as per court's directive by attending the hearing. Court will consider the case at the next hearing on Sept 11, and Flat and Villa Owners' Association, Kerala (COFVOAK), is planning to sort out the issues by submitting the undertakings to PCB before the date.
