Mark Your Calendars: Stouffville Spirit's Home Opener Hits Sept. 11

● The Stouffville Spirit open the 2025–26 OJHL season with back-to-back road games Sept. 6–7 in Oakville and Pickering. ● The home opener is set for Sept. 11 against the Pickering Panthers, featuring live music and pregame entertainment. ● Training camp begins Aug. 13, followed by four preseason games and a free intrasquad Red vs. White match on Aug. 16. ● The Spirit finished 33-19 last season, reaching the second round of the playoffs under OJHL Coach of the Year TJ Hill. ● The complete schedule is now available online . The Stouffville Spirit are gearing up for another action-packed Ontario Junior Hockey League (OJHL) season. With the release of the 2025–26 regular season schedule, fans can now mark their calendars and get ready to rally behind their hometown team. Stouffville opens the season with back-to-back road games, starting with a 7 p.m. matchup in Oakville on Saturday, Sept. 6. The following night, they visit the Pickering Panthers for a 7:30 p.m. faceoff. The Spirit's home opener is set for Thursday, Sept. 11, when the Panthers come to town for a 7:30 p.m. puck drop at the Stouffville Arena. The night will feature live music and pregame entertainment to welcome fans back. The team's only other home game in September comes on Sunday, Sept. 21, when the Buffalo Jr. Sabres visit for a 2:30 p.m. matinee. Before the 57-game regular season gets underway, Spirit players will report to training camp on Aug. 13 for fitness testing. On-ice work begins the following day, with four training sessions scheduled ahead of a slate of exhibition games. Returning behind the bench is Head Coach TJ Hill, the reigning OJHL Coach of the Year, who says he's eager to build on last season's progress. The Spirit posted a 33-19 record last year, finishing fourth in the Eastern Division and advancing to the second round of the OJHL playoffs, where they were eliminated by the Trenton Golden Hawks. It marked a step forward from the previous season, when the team went 29-20-2 and exited in the first round after narrowly securing the eighth and final playoff spot . 'We are very much looking forward to getting started in a couple of weeks, and there is a lot to be excited about going into the season,' Hill said in comments to Bullet Point News. 'We have a great recruiting class of young players coming in. They are a very talented group that is hungry to show everybody what they can do.' 'On top of that, we have a number of players returning from last year, and we are very excited to see them take the next step in their development and become strong leaders for us going forward,' he added. A new event on the preseason calendar is an intrasquad Red vs. White game, set for 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 16, at the Stouffville Arena. The scrimmage is free to attend and will offer fans an early glimpse of this year's roster. The Spirit will then play four preseason matchups, beginning with a road game against the Toronto Patriots on Aug. 20. The Patriots come to Stouffville Aug. 23 for a 2 p.m. game, and a home-then-away series against the St. Michael's Buzzers follows on Aug. 28 (7:30 p.m.) and Aug. 29 (7 p.m.). This year's home schedule includes 10 Thursday night games, nine Saturday night matchups, two Sunday afternoon contests, and four Thursday afternoon games. Special holiday Monday matinees are also planned for Thanksgiving and Family Day. Fans can also support local causes during the season through 50/50 draws held at every home game. Proceeds from draws during the preseason and September will benefit the Stouffville Terry Fox Run . The Spirit close out the regular season with three straight road games, ending Feb. 28 at Haliburton County. If all goes as planned, they'll be ready for Round 1 of the OJHL playoffs, which begins March 6. Error! Sorry, there was an error processing your request. There was a problem with the recaptcha. Limpopo prophet gets double life sentence for child rape

LIMPOPO – The Lenyenye Magistrate Court, earlier today, sentenced Confidence Monyela (40) to two life sentences after he was found guilty of rape and sexual assault. The case divided the Mariveni community, with some labelling it as fiction, while others demanded justice for the victims. As a result, some of the victims were forced to drop out of school in Gr 11 and Gr 7 due to the stigma and bullying they received from being associated with the case. Magistrate Carol Hon'wana stated that the court held evidence proving Monyela paid for an abortion for one of the girls he impregnated. 'The fact that you pleaded not guilty on all counts shows no remorse and a lack of empathy,' the magistrate said. She added that the sentencing serves as a message to society that rape cannot be tolerated and offenders must be removed. She concluded by informing the convicted prophet of his right to appeal the sentencing at the High Court if he is dissatisfied. Monyela was surrounded by family and relatives who came to show support at the court. He was surrounded by family and relatives who came to show their support.

Fatima Sana Shaikh: Not only women, but even men face the wrath of patriarchy

Fatima Sana Shaikh has had a busy July as she had two back-to-back releases with Metro… In Dino and Aap Jaisa Koi. Both the films explored love in different ways, and talking about her tryst with love stories, the actor quips, 'I'm living my love life through the films that I'm doing.' Fatima Sana Shaikh(Photo: Instagram) In both the films, her character is battling for a relationship of equals in different ways. Ask her about it and she says, 'Equality in a relationship is very important. I don't have to be a man, I would love to be feminine and the man doesn't have to be me. But there is a synergy that is important to maintain. I don't want my partner to change me and I wouldn't want him to change because we got attracted to each other because we were ourselves. That's why it's important to first respect each other and once that happens, then everything is fine.' In Aap Jaisa Koi, Fatima Sana Shaikh is paired opposite actor R Madhavan, who plays a character whose mindset is formed by patriarchy. The actor asserts that it's not only women but also men who suffer because of it. 'There are men also who are in a toxic relationship. The unfortunate fact is that when they come out with their stories, they're ridiculed. That's also because of patriarchy because boys are not supposed to cry. They can't complain as they are supposed to have this front that 'I take care of the family. I'll take care of everybody. I can't hurt. I'm not weak because it's not accepted'. So, it's not that only women are facing the wrath of patriarchy, even men are,' she says. Recently, as in the case of actor Deepika Padukone and filmmaker Sandeep Reddy Vanga's alleged feud over the film Spirit raised a debate about when female actors make any demands, they are termed unprofessional or difficult to work with. Ask Fatima if she feels that women taking a stand for themselves ruffles the feathers of male bigwits in the industry even today and she agrees. 'In any profession men are more, especially in corporate. There are only a few professions where women are more in numbers,' she says. However, the actor asserts that things are changing: 'The understanding of what actually a woman thinks, it's changing because there are more women who are now working. The perception is now breaking about how a woman should be like, what kind of roles she should do. Now, we can imagine a woman also being a villain. Earlier, we used to see only men as antagonists. Even in corporations, we could only imagine a man being a boss but not a woman. But if a woman is playing that character, then she carries the baggage of what a woman in real life carries when she's at that position,' she ends.
