Intelligent textiles, desert warfare systems among key deep tech projects in pipeline: Defence Ministry
INTELLIGENT TEXTILES, desert warfare systems and wargaming technologies are some of the key areas that have been identified by the Ministry of Defence (MoD) as part of the Deep Tech research under Technology Development Fund (TDF). A separate allocation of Rs 500 crores has been made for these advanced technology projects with defence applications, informed Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth in a written reply to MP Naveen Jindal in the Lok Sabha recently. Jindal had sought to know if the government had approved the new Deep Tech and Cutting-Edge policies under the Technology Development Fund (TDF) Scheme and if so, sought details of the projects along with their key features and objectives. Seth said in his reply, 'An additional grant or corpus of Rs 500 crore has been approved by the Defence Minister to cater for deep-tech and cutting edge projects as separate verticals under TDF. The process of the selection and identification of Deep Tech projects has been initiated. Currently, nine projects are launched under this initiative by TDF.' He added that nine industries are engaged in four projects sanctioned through DRDO Industry Academia Centres of Excellence (DIA-CoEs) under the grants in aid scheme of DRDO. Seth told the House that the projects cover research areas such as Intelligent Textile Technologies, Desert Warfare Technologies, War-gaming Technologies, Powder Metallurgy, High Power Microwave Sources and Devices, Advanced Ballistics, Photonic Technologies, Aerospace Systems and Materials, Micro and Nano Systems Science and Technology, Artificial Intelligence and Robotics, Quantum Technology, Naval Systems and Naval Technologies, High Power CW Laser Source, Additive Manufacturing, Advanced Materials and Processing, Advanced Nano Materials and Sensors based on Semiconductors. Intelligent Textiles are fabrics that can sense, react, or adapt to environmental conditions or user input. Desert Warfare systems are military equipment and mechanisms specifically designed for effective combat operations in hot, arid, and sandy desert environments. Wargaming Technologies and essentially simulation tools are softwares used to model military operations for training, planning, and strategic decision-making. Seth also provided a list of 55 institutes from 20 states in India that have undertaken a total of 302 projects in these areas. These include two institutes from Pune including Defence Institute of Advanced Technology (DIAT) and the College of Engineering, Pune (COEP). He added, 'DRDO has a Long Term Directed Research Policy (LTDRP) for engaging academia. Projects are monitored at three stages in regular intervals throughout the year. Technical evaluation committee (TEC) evaluates the new project proposals and does regular technical progress monitoring. Research Advisory Board (RAB) reviews the new projects recommended by TEC and also monitors sanctioned projects for their progress and addresses the techno managerial issues of Centre of Excellence (CoE) and the projects. The Governing Council approves the projects, oversees the overall functioning of the Centre and projects sanctioned through the Centre.'

National Lipstick Day 2025: Must-Try Lipstick Trends and Shades For The Season
Last Updated: In 2025, lipstick is evolving, but its power remains timeless. Clean, conscious, and crafted for real lives, today's lipsticks go beyond pigment 'Lipstick has always been more than a beauty staple; it's a marker of moments. It's the first swipe before a big meeting, the shade you reached for the night everything changed, or the colour that made you feel most like yourself, even on an ordinary day.' In 2025, lipstick is evolving, but its power remains timeless. Clean, conscious, and crafted for real lives, today's lipsticks go beyond pigment. They reflect mood, mindset, and meaning. On National Lipstick Day, we're reminded that something as small as a lipstick can still carry the weight of transformation, the thrill of confidence, and the quiet power of self-expression all in one effortless gesture. Dr. Rinky Kapoor, Director and Co-Founder of The Esthetic Clinics (TEC), explains, 'For many, applying lipstick is a daily ritual, a boost of confidence, an expression of identity or a signature look. But when used every day—especially products that contain synthetic dyes, parabens, or heavy metals—we do start to see long-term effects; things like persistent dryness, allergic reactions, or even lip pigmentation. Matte and long-wear lipsticks, while trendy, are particularly drying and can contribute to darkening if you are not protecting or hydrating your lips enough." She adds, 'What most people don't realise is that the skin on our lips is different. It has no oil glands, making it more vulnerable to chapping and irritation. At TEC®, we treat many patients for lip pigmentation, inflammation, or even contact dermatitis, often triggered by overuse of harsh cosmetic products. Treatments like low-energy lasers, mild peels, and prescription balms can help—but prevention is always better." Her tips? 'Choose lipsticks that are dermatologically tested, never skip a nourishing balm with SPF, avoid licking your lips, and exfoliate gently once a week." Now that we're ready to celebrate with care, here's a curated edit of must-try lipsticks and balms making waves this season: Anastasia Beverly Hills Lip Velvet Anastasia Beverly Hills Lip Velvet, a luxurious velvet-smooth lip mousse that provides a weightless, true-matte finish. Co-working company The Executive Centre (TEC) will raise Rs 2,600 crore in a fresh issue of Rs 2 per equity share and has filed a preliminary document with the Securities and Exchange Board of India on NSE and BSE, it said in a statement. Bengaluru-based TEC will use the net proceeds to invest in TEC Abu Dhabi, a direct subsidiary, and to partly fund the acquisition of TEC SGP and TEC Dubai, both step-down subsidiaries held by TEC Singapore, one of its promoters. Kotak Mahindra Capital Company, ICICI Securities, and Nomura Financial Advisory and Securities (India) are the book running lead managers (BRLM) to the issue. TEC did not disclose the offer for sale but said that in consultation with the BRLMs it may choose to raise up to Rs 520 crore by issuing specified securities through a preferential offer or any other permitted method. Manish Khedia, managing director, West India, South India and Sri Lanka, TEC, told 'Business Standard' in March: 'In the next three years, we anticipate significant growth, aiming for a 25-30 per cent CAGR, up from our current 18-20 per cent rate. ‘Remedial education must be a sustained component in schooling system'
Remedial education in schools, to improve learning abilities of children, must not be seen as an add-on facility but a core and sustainable component in the schooling system. This will not only enhance learning but also ensure equity and inclusion. That was the consensus of academics, practitioners, voluntary organisations in the field of children education, and school officials, at the consultative workshop on remedial teaching in schools conducted by Telangana Education Commission (TEC), here on Tuesday. TEC chairman Akunuri Murali observed that the consultation was important, in the wake of poor comprehension levels and foundational learning crisis. 'Many students lacking basic competency are not only losing their valuable time but also confidence and dignity. The structural issues, including multi-grade classrooms and limited focus on early education in Anganwadis, have compounded the crisis,' he noted. According to Reddy of MV Foundation, which extensively works with out-of-school children, those who are capable of learning given the right environment. Start from what learners already know, recognise diversity in classroom and create a democratic learning space, he suggested. For Ram Babu of Pratham, Mumbai-based organisation, who inferred from Annual Status of Education Report (ASER) trends, adopting 'Teaching at the Right Level (TaRL)' interventions in the State would help better foundation skills. Professors at the Indira Mahindra School of Education Shikha Takker and Mythili Sastry also emphasised the need for strong conceptual foundation in Mathematics and the importance of school leadership in remedial teaching. further raised a question: 'Should remedial education be time-bound or integrated as a continuous support system throughout the academic year?' Sharing similar experiences, a teacher from Khammam cited examples of short-term intensive interventions, an organisation said story books and reading sessions can be effective tools while another suggested separate tutors round the year and embedding remedial education in welfare hostels and schools through volunteers.
