According to a police statement, officers were called to Earl Street in Marylands around 9.20am following reports of a shooting. No one was home at the time and there were no reports of injuries. ‘Democrats were being too soft': Trump ‘means business' with anti-ICE riots
The Daily Telegraph's James Willis discusses the anti-ICE protests currently taking place across the United States. 'This was his mandate and his number one issue that got him elected,' Mr Willis told Sky News host Sharri Markson. 'The idea that America's borders were too soft. 'The Democrats were being too soft on that, that was damaging the fabric of society. 'I think he is just going to go harder on this, and anyone that defies it, well, watch out, because they mean business, there's more Marines, more National Guard.'

This underrated Steve Carell movie is one of my favorite coming-of-age comedies — and it's now on Prime Video
Steve Carell is known for big-budget comedies like "The 40 Year-Old Virgin," "Crazy, Stupid, Love." and the "Anchorman" franchise, but some of the actor's best work is in smaller-scale fare like "Little Miss Sunshine," "Dan in Real Life" and "The Way, Way Back". In particular, that latter title — which sees an against-type performance from Carell as a nightmare stepfather — is a surefire summertime charmer, complete with a fantastic ensemble full of some of Hollywood's funniest people. And, best of all, it's currently available to stream on Prime Video. Amazon's streaming service is stocked with great titles across all genres, including crowd-pleasing comedies, and "The Way, Way Back" is certainly no exception. The coming-of-age story serves up humor and heart in equal turns, and will instantly transport you back to those long, sunny days of youthful, no-school summer. Here's why you should add the sweet teen comedy to your Prime Video watch list. Written and directed by Nat Faxon and Jim Rash in their directorial debuts, 2013's "The Way, Way Back" centers on Duncan (Liam James), an introverted 14-year-old on summer vacation in a New England beach town with his mother Pam (Toni Collete), her overbearing boyfriend Trent (Steve Carell) and Trent's daughter Steph (Zoe Levin). Trent is quite hard on Duncan — the older man tells the teen to rate himself on a scale of one to ten and harshly dubs him a three — and, even worse, he's caught by the boy cheating on Pam with a friend's wife (Amanda Peet). To escape the messiness of it all, Duncan finds solace at the rundown local water park, Water Wizz, where he encounters a merry band of colorful employees (played by Maya Rudolph, Jim Rash and Nat Faxon, among others), all led by wisecracking but compassionate park manager Owen (Sam Rockwell). Though Duncan's family is none the wiser about where he's spending his summer days, the teen is hired by Owen for odd jobs around the park and soon the wallflower opens up, even catching the attention of Susanna (AnnaSophia Robb), the pretty daughter of his neighbor Betty (a scene-stealing Allison Janney). There's a sweet nostalgia that permeates "The Way, Way Back" — fittingly, the title refers to sitting in the third row of seats in old-school station wagons — and a youthful relatability to Duncan's story. Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. And along with a believably villainous turn from usual good-guy Steve Carell, the unexpected buddy duo of Sam Rockwell and Liam James is an especially delightful attribute. Both actors received Critics' Choice nominations for their performances, as did the comedy film as a whole. Rockwell's warm and witty screen work, in particular, was lauded by critics: David Gritten at The Daily Telegraph wrote: "Rockwell seizes on this role and milks it for all it's worth." And for The Guardian, Catherine Shoard also showed love to Carell and Collette: "There's some terrific performances – particularly from Collette, putting flesh on some quite bare bones, and Carell, a wholly plausible, half-sympathetic overgrown jock with a bullying charm." On Rotten Tomatoes, where the movie has an 83% approval rating, critical consensus reads: "Despite its familiar themes, 'The Way Way Back' makes use of its talented cast, finely tuned script, and an abundance of charm to deliver a funny and satisfying coming-of-age story." As Putin hits Ukraine with biggest air attack, Kyiv strikes Russian airbases & hits planes again
Hours after Russia launched biggest aerial attack in the war so far, Ukrainian drones struck Russia's Savasleyka airbase and damaged Russian fighter planes. read more Hours after Russia launched the biggest aerial attack of the war, Ukraine on Monday struck Russia's warplanes yet again. Earlier in the day, Ukraine also struck a manufacturing unit that makes critical components for missiles and drones that Russia uses to attack Ukraine. These are the latest Ukrainian attacks on Russian air power and critical infrastructure that followed Russian aerial attack involving 479 drones and 20 missiles on the intervening night of Sunday and Monday. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD In recent weeks, even as Russia and Ukraine are engaged in direct talks, both sides have ramped up attacks. While Russia has bombed the length and breadth of Ukraine with hundreds of missiles and drones on a near-daily basis, Ukraine has struck Russian airbases and other critical infrastructure, such as sites part of the military-industrial complex and missile launchers. Ukraine strikes Russian war planes — again Ukraine on Monday said that its drones attacked Russia's Savasleyka airbase and damage two Russian fighter planes. The two planes damaged included a MiG-31K and a Sukhoi Su-30/34. In a statement, the Ukrainian General Staff said that the special forces struck the Savasleyka base that Russia has used to launch attacks on Ukraine with MiG-31K fighter planes and 'Kinzhal' missiles. As per the preliminary information, two fighter planes, likely a MiG-31 and Su-30/34, were damaged, the statement said. The attack on MiG and Sukhoi came a little over a week after Ukraine attacked at least five Russian airbases with 117 drones and destroyed nearly a third of Russian long-range bomber and surveillance aircraft fleets. Earlier in the day, Ukraine said it struck manufacturing unit of a private defence company, JSC VNIIR-Progress, in Cheboksary in Chuvashia region that makes critical components for Russian missiles Iskander and Kalibr and Iranian suicide drone Shahed — a mainstay of Russian aerial attacks on Ukraine. Earlier on Friday, Ukraine struck Engels airfield in Russia that housed bomber aircraft and the Dyagilevo airbase near Moscow that housed refuelling and escort aircraft. Ukraine also attacked an oil depot in Saratov that day. In another recent attack, Ukraine targeted a chemical plant in Russia's Tula region. Despite such attacks on critical installations, Russian forces' advance has picked up pace in recent months. In May, Russia gained 196 square miles of Ukrainian territory compared to 146 square miles in April and 93 square miles in March, according to The Daily Telegraph. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD Despite the successes of Ukrainian aerial attacks, ground forces remain stretched against numerically superior Russian forces. While Ukraine's principal supporter, the United States, has now essentially switched sides under President Donald Trump, Russian supporters, China, Iran, and North Korea, have doubled down. The result is that Russian leader Vladimir Putin is prolonging the talks to maximise his gains with the idea of pushing into acceptance of his maximalist terms.

Scone best bets and inside mail for Tuesday June 10, 2025
Racenet and The Daily Telegraph form analyst Shayne O'Cass provides his best bets and race-by-race analysis at Scone on Tuesday. â– â– â– â– â– SCONE TIPS BEST BET Race 2 No. 2: LADY MEMPHIS Won at Goulburn 16 days after debut second to Private Harry. NEXT BEST Will relish the longer trip while racing at home here. VALUE BET Race 8 No.6: ARCHAIC FORCE Huge run in the Highway here at the Cup carnival. DAILY DOUBLE 1st Leg: 4, 2nd Leg 6 QUADDIE Race 5: 1, 2, 3, 4 Race 6: 4, 12 Race 7: 3, 5 Race 8: 4, 6, 7 JOCKEY TO FOLLOW Aaron Bullock versus Ashley Morgan – what a clash! Bullock by a nose (maybe). â– â– â– â– â– SCONE INSIDE MAIL IT STAYS IN VEGAS (8) bumped into Raging Force in the Red Crown but was the second elect, albeit $4.40 out to $11. He ran fifth, which on face value makes him a disappointment, but it was a funny sort of Soft 6 that day so maybe needs to be forgiven. Back home and in an easier race. PRISCILA STATEMENT (7) handed in a solid third on debut at Muswellbrook. Drawn to be prominent throughout. Ballina visitor MOFEED (2) has placed at five of his seven starts, which augurs well for another medal here. BET: IT STAYS IN VEGAS to win. LADY MEMPHIS (2) finished runner-up on debut in a Newcastle Super Maiden to Private Harry. Even the third horse, Rubi's Serve, goes well. No surprise then that the Matthew Smith-trained filly won her next start down at Goulburn. Spelled and has trialled up really nicely since. CAPITAL DANCER (1) has run more good races than bad in her time. This is her pet trip and she gets barrier two and Aaron Bullock. BET: LADY MEMPHIS to win; exacta 2 to beat 1. RITZSUN (9) is a Scott Singleton-trained 3YO and thus giving away age and experience to the entire field here. That said, his numbers make compelling reading. Chief among them is that both his wins were here are home. Trialled well since a second on May 10 in a Highway on Gosford Cup day. Speaking of trials, OUR BOY OLLIE's (4) hitout here on June 5 was a beauty. IN SPADES' (8) best would have her on podium. BET: RITZSUN to win. LOUISBURGH (1) is a son of Zoustar out of Sunset Rock, who beat the subsequent Champagne Stakes winner Go Indy Go in the Cinderella Stakes in 2014. A $250,000 Easter Yearling, Louisburgh has placed at three of his five starts and comes into this off two provincial seconds. So well placed. BACKWARD GLANCE (9) ran fourth, albeit eight lengths behind Saturday's Randwick winner Millie De Lune. BAWNAGLEN (8) should relish the 1350m at home. Bet: Louisburgh to win. SHEILA'S FANTA SEA (4) has a tidy resume of 10 starts, two wins and five placings, three of them seconds. Trainer Wayne Wilkes' daughter Shae has ridden her in all her wins and places, including a very easy win at Taree on May 13. Easy to like. The last time INSIGHTFUL AWARD (2) raced here at home, she won by six. Bit costly since then but never far away, either. TWILIGHT ROCK (1) is one from 19 but has placed 13 times so has to be considered. BET: SHEILA'S FANTASY SEA to win; quinella 2, 4; box trifecta 1, 2, 3, 4. DUBAI WARRIOR (4) debuted at Scone on November 19 last year and ran a huge third to Churchill's Choice no less. Won his maiden at Canberra next start and although he hasn't won again in five runs, he has placed twice and always been running on willingly at the end. Triple Crown's entry PIERONIMO (12) has some deep form. Was second to Millie De Lune (beating The Beats) and has placed again since. BET: DUBAI WARRIOR to win; quinella 4, 12; Daily Double – 1st leg 4, 2nd leg 6. SHUTTER (5) has raced seven times. Take out the debut run at Gunnedah and every once since has contained merit to varying degrees. Everything in the world suggests she will run – and indeed wants – 1700m. The big, home track is another box ticked. Speaking of boxes ticked, barrier three and Aaron Bullock are two reasons why the Greg Hickman-trained JONNY BE SWIFT (2) can challenge here. This is the type of race CROATIAN MADAME (11) can win. BET: SHUTTER to win. ARCHAIC FORCE (6) was a $125,000 Inglis Classic Yearling. Good money for a Cosmic Force but this horse is also a son of NZ Oaks winner and multiple stakes-horse producer Bramble Rose. The Todd Howlett-trained 3YO is cursed when it comes to barrier draws and as for the last run here on cup day, it was huge. MONARCH EXPRESS (4) has talent, a good draw and jockey. DUBAI GOLD (7) has been trialling like a bomb since he got to Nathan Doyle's stable.
