Apple iPhone 17 Pro Is 1 Month Away: Everything We Know So Far
On Sept. 9, Apple will reveal its new iPhones, it's thought (full schedule here). The most expensive models will be the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max (and at least one of them will have a price rise, it's thought). Over the months, rumors have come and gone, gained credibility with corroboration from multiple sources, or been utterly discredited. Here's the latest intel on what's coming. iPhone 17 Pro Big Design Changes The big change will come on the back of the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max, with the squarish camera panel replaced with one that stretches the full width of the phone. This may be accompanied by camera improvements though it's likely these could have been achieved with the old design. A smaller but noticeable knock-on effect for this looks like being a repositioning of the Apple logo on the phone's rear (full details here). The iPhone 17 Pro Max is rumored to be thicker than ever, which may mean an increased battery size which may mean longer battery life (hurrah). iPhone 17 Pro New Colors There will be either four or five colors for the Pro and Pro Max. I believe four is most likely, like the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max. These will be black, white, dark blue and the most controversial rumor: a bright orange. I suspect this will be a more muted color like copper, but we'll see. iPhone 17 Pro Cameras All three rear cameras will be 48-megapixel resolution, it's predicted, for the first time. In other words, the telephoto will join the main and ultra wide cameras with sensors this detailed. iPhone 17 Pro Processor It seems the A19 Pro is the chip that's coming — since the current models have the A18 Pro, this is hardly a surprise. It'll be faster, of course, and may lead to greater efficiencies for longer battery life. Alternatively, that extra efficiency could be spent on new features which use more power. iPhone 17 Pro Price It looks like the prices will go up by $50 on each model, meaning the 17 Pro will start at $1,049, for instance, though it's not clear if the changing world of tariff exemptions will affect this. iPhone 17 Pro Release Date The iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max look set to go on sale on Friday, Sept. 19.

Veteran analyst drops 6-word verdict on Apple's $100 billion investment
Veteran analyst drops 6-word verdict on Apple's $100 billion investment originally appeared on TheStreet. An eye-popping $100 billion U.S. investment sounds like good press, but Wedbush's Dan Ives says there's a lot more than meets the eye. Apple () CEO Tim Cook stood beside President Donald Trump in announcing a massive $100 billion boost in U.S. spending as part of the "America First" strategy. Is this just Apple looking to play politics, or was the move more calculated? 💵💰💰💵 Ives' note effectively answers those questions, as he looks to delve deeper into the timing, the politics, and what it signals about Cook's strategy. Apple leans into "Made in America" with $100 billion pledge Apple shook things up with a whopping $100 billion investment in expanding its U.S. manufacturing footprint. Announced on Aug. 6 during a White House event with President Trump, the huge bet takes Apple's total U.S. investment to $600 billion over the next four years. Also, it builds on an earlier $500 billion promise made this year, which involves hiring 20,000 American move's timing seems very intentional. Tariffs are once again on the table, and Apple is making sure it's not in the crosshairs. Through partnerships with Corning (for Kentucky-made iPhone glass) and MP Materials (for rare-earth magnets), CEO Cook is doubling down on key components that could prove economically viable to produce domestically. The positive press doesn't hurt, either. Some might deem the move as more about optics, considering how Biden-era chip controls and President Trump's tariff threats have boxed Apple into a corner. Still, don't expect full iPhone assembly to be coming home anytime soon. Analysts feel that replicating Foxconn-style production in the U.S. would lead to a sharp increase in prices and weigh down margins, while eroding Apple's tight grip on operational efficiency. Instead, the focus stays on high-impact investments in states like Arizona, Texas, and North Carolina, areas that effectively deliver political wins and component-level gains. Dan Ives lavishes praise on Apple's $100 billion U.S. push Apple's latest move to shell out $100 billion into U.S. operations is earning cautious praise from Wall Street's finest. Wedbush analyst Dan Ives hails the announcement as a 'good step in the right direction,' signaling that Apple is finally aligning itself more closely with the shifting political climate. The bet brings Apple's total U.S. investment to $600 billion over the next four years, sending Apple shares higher in the process.'This isn't just about manufacturing,' Ives said. 'It's a strategic chess move that helps Apple get on Trump's good side and avoid becoming the next trade-war headline.' It seems like a clear nod to the Trump administration's America First policy as the pressure continues to mount on Big Tech to reinvest at home. However, not everyone is convinced it's a game-changer; some analysts believe the pledge is more about optics than overhaul. A big part of that is the logistical hurdles, which effectively make iPhone development in the U.S. mostly impractical. More News: Veteran analyst spots unexpected star in Apple's earnings report Bank of America drops shocking price target on hot weight-loss stock post-earnings JPMorgan drops 3-word verdict on Amazon stock post-earnings Still, Cook has bought Apple considerable breathing room as he looks to tweak the tech giant's complex supply chain. Whether it's enough to shift the tide or consumer perception remains to be seen. Apple leverages federal funding to power domestic and sustainable growth Apple's $100 billion pledge isn't just a political hedge — it's a savvy financial move. It appears to be a broader play into tapping federal incentives from the CHIPS and Science Act and the Inflation Reduction Act. That effectively positions Apple to qualify for U.S. investments in the billions for subsidies, grants, and tax breaks. Under CHIPS, a massive $39 billion is earmarked for onshore chip manufacturing, along with a 25% tax credit for qualifying chip equipment. The Inflation Reduction Act adds another layer to that, which also offers roughly 30% in credits for clean-energy manufacturing, along with bonuses for domestically sourced materials, including green steel and iron. So Apple's partnerships with Corning in Kentucky and MP Materials in Texas are no accident. These supply-chain tweaks, in line with federally funded chip-packaging and testing hubs in Phoenix and New York, could potentially lead to overlapping incentives. As Washington leans into clean tech, Apple's early alignment with these priorities could give it a major analyst drops 6-word verdict on Apple's $100 billion investment first appeared on TheStreet on Aug 7, 2025 This story was originally reported by TheStreet on Aug 7, 2025, where it first appeared.

Top analyst sends Apple CEO blunt message about its future
Top analyst sends Apple CEO blunt message about its future originally appeared on TheStreet. Apple's reputation for creating groundbreaking consumer electronics and software under former founder and CEO Steve Jobs is being tested this year. CEO Tim Cook is under intense scrutiny to make a splash in artificial intelligence, a massive market opportunity already being captured by deep-pocketed rivals, including OpenAI's ChatGPT, Google's Gemini, and Microsoft's Copilot. 💵💰💰💵 So far, Apple's foray into AI with Apple Intelligence has been criticized for being too little, too late. Apple watchers are increasingly urging Cook to take action and boldly move in the space, reminiscent of Jobs' iconic "one more thing" reveals at Apple conferences. Veteran Wall Street analyst Dan Ives is the latest to weigh in on Apple's AI problem. The long-time Apple analyst delivered a blunt message on what Apple should do next to address its AI ambitions. Apple's future depends on thinking big on AI The flurry of AI chatbot activity is already upending how consumers and businesses consume information. Rather than digging through endless search results to find answers or information, people are increasingly turning to large language models like ChatGPT, Gemini, and Copilot to get deeper and robust answers more also using it to create in ways unthinkable two years ago. People use it to research deeply, produce and consume entertainment, and help organize projects. Businesses are building custom AI agents to boost worker efficiency, improve sales, and eliminate customer service bottlenecks. AI's applications are seemingly endless, leading many to believe AI chatbots and agents will be the most disruptive technological advance since the internet. As a result, huge amounts of money are at stake. The IDC FutureScape report predicts global spending on technology to support AI will reach $337 billion in 2025 and grow to at least $749 billion by 2028 as companies shift from building AI infrastructure and training generative and agentic AI to inference or using AI apps in the real world. Capturing its fair share of that growing pie is going to require Apple making some bold moves, according to Ives, who has been tracking technology companies for decades and is currently Managing Director and Senior Equity Research Analyst at Wedbush Securities. Following Apple's $100 billion additional commitment to U.S. manufacturing, Ives offered a blunt three-prong approach Apple should use to accelerate its AI roadmap. "In our view: Three Moves Cook & Cupertino Need to Make To Avoid a 'Blackberry Moment' in AI. Address the elephant in the room…🎯🏆👇🍎," wrote Ives on X, formerly Twitter. His three ideas include: "1. Do the Perplexity acquisition before it's too late. 2. Bring in outside talent to the management team. 3. Do the Google Gemini partnership." Apple has reportedly considered using its $36 billion cash war chest to acquire Perplexity, an existing AI player. Adding more top-notch AI talent could also help it leapfrog rivals, as other big tech companies are already doing. Finally, partnering with Google Gemini for a more robust AI experience on iPhones, tablets, and Macs could help it close the AI gap for users. Apple's next AI moves are critical (and likely costly) Apple doesn't have a shortage of financial firepower to follow Ives' roadmap. It boasts some of the most loyal consumers on the planet, and racked up an eye-popping $94 billion in sales in the June quarter, resulting in $23 billion in net income. Still, following advice won't come Cook wants to accelerate Apple's AI development, acquiring Perplexity could do the trick. Perplexity markets an AI chatbot similar to Google Gemini and OpenAI's ChatGPT. Its in-house model, Sonar, is built on Meta Platforms' Llama open source code. Perplexity has also leveraged DeepSeek's R1, and Perplexity Pro subscribers can choose between other large language models, including OpenAI, Gemini, Anthropic's Claude, and Elon Musk's Grok. Perplexity's user-first approach of matching the right Chatbot and real-time insight to users' needs nicely matches Apple's historical mission. It would provide an out-of-the-box solution for Apple to monetize AI. Perplexity, launched in 2022, has over 22 million monthly active users. According to About Chromebooks data, its annualized revenue could reach $150 million this summer, up from $63 million last year. More AI Stocks: Jim Cramer drops jaw-dropping price target on Palantir stock post-earnings Morgan Stanley slaps eye-popping price target on Nvidia stock Apple CEO drops bombshell about its future Perplexity isn't publicly traded and, with an AI search market share of about 6%, is reportedly valued at $18 billion. Apple would likely have to pay much more than that, but Cook may be willing to consider it. 'We've acquired around seven companies this year,' said Cook on Apple's recent earnings conference call. 'We're very open to M&A that accelerates our road map… We are not stuck on a certain size company." Poaching away AI talent would be costly, too, given recent deals. An AI talent war has broken out this year. For instance, Anthropic, backed by Amazon, is aggressively hiring and working to retain workers. OpenAI's Sam Altman has accused Meta of trying to poach its workers by offering $100 million bonuses. This summer, Meta Platforms invested $14.8 billion in Scale AI to acquire a 49% nonvoting stake and lock up Scale AI CEO Alexandr Wang to lead its new superintelligence project. Inking a deal with Gemini looks like it could happen soon. The Verge reported earlier this year that during Google's search monopoly trial, Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai confirmed a meeting with Cook and suggested a deal to get Gemini on Apple devices could come this year. It remains to be seen what Apple's AI plans ultimately are, but one thing seems clear: It needs to act soon if it wants to avoid falling too far analyst sends Apple CEO blunt message about its future first appeared on TheStreet on Aug 8, 2025 This story was originally reported by TheStreet on Aug 8, 2025, where it first appeared. Apple iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro Release Date: Your Complete Countdown
Updated Aug. 9 with more details of exactly what's coming and when plus further analysis and timing details. In September, Apple will launch the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max and an all-new model that's especially slim and is nicknamed iPhone 17 Air. Here's everything that will happen between now and the day you can buy one, down to the minute, including when pre-orders will open, how you may be able to jump to the head of that line, and when to expect reviews of the phones to appear. And remember, everything here applies to Apple Watch as well, as the Apple Watch Series 10 and Apple Watch Ultra 3 (with a bigger-than-ever display) are also predicted to appear, possibly alongside Apple Watch SE 3rd generation and Apple AirPods Pro 3. iPhone 17: Keynote Announcement The keynote is when Apple will reveal its new handsets (plus new Apple Watch models, including an Apple Watch Ultra 3 which may have the biggest display yet). I believe it will be announced at around 8 a.m. Pacific on Tuesday, Aug. 26. You can read full details of the announcement and how it will happen here. iPhone 17: Keynote at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 9 Once the keynote has been announced, around two weeks will pass until it takes place. Unless there's a major surprise, it will be in the 1,000-seater Steve Jobs Theater at Apple Park, the company's Cupertino headquarters. It will start at 10 a.m. Pacific, 1 p.m. Eastern, 6 p.m. U.K. time. As for the date, that's looking increasingly likely to be the date I predicted in July: Tuesday, Sept. 9 — a recent leak based on data from internal documents from one or more German carriers points to the same date. That said, things can still change, so the Monday or Wednesday of that week are still possible. Much less likely is an event in the week before: Labor Day would push the event to the Wednesday instead of the Tuesday events Apple likes best and it would clash with the Berlin tech show IFA, so many favored press would be in the wrong country. More voices have been heard on the date of the keynote. Regular leaker Instant Digital has said on Weibo, 'iPhone 17 released on Sept.9,' though according to your machine translation, this could include the words 'may be released,' which isn't quite as certain. David Snelling, highly respected Technology Editor of the U.K. newspaper the Daily Express, has said, 'Apple never reveals anything until closer to the launch date but has done some detective work and we think all will be unveiled on Tuesday, September 9,' which is more positive. There is a cautionary note, however: 'Of course, we could be completely wrong as Apple likes surprises, but that date seems the most likely,' and while that's right, I'm sure there are no surprises coming in terms of the date. There are plenty more articles online which bet on Sept. 9, but please note that almost all of them are based on the same rumor based on alleged German carrier data mentioned above. In other words, though there has been plenty more coverage of this date, most leads back to the same source. What you're reading here is not based on that report. By 12 noon Pacific the keynote will be over and we'll know all the new iPhones by name, and have access to all their secrets, including pricing. If by any chance it's on another date in the same week, then all the other parts of the jigsaw remain in place, such as release date, reviews appearing and, our next topic: when pre-orders open. iPhone 17: Pre-Orders Friday, Sept. 12 The date for pre-orders opening is routinely the Friday following the keynote, so even if the announcement falls one day earlier or later, pre-orders will be on Friday, Sept. 12. The time, if it's the same as last year, will be 5 a.m. Pacific, 8 a.m. Eastern, 1 p.m. U.K. Sometimes Apple lets customers get ahead of the curve by choosing their preferred phone (model, color and storage level) the night before and put them in their shopping bag ready for pre-orders to open the following day. Note also that it's possible that not all phones will be released on the same day, even though they'll be announced together. This has happened in the past when there have been new categories, for instance. This includes 2018 when the iPhone Xs and iPhone Xs Max went on sale on one day, but the iPhone XR was held back — it came in five colors and introduced Liquid Retina Display, an LCD screen which appeared to have curved corners. Similarly, the first smaller-screened iPhone with Face ID, the iPhone 12 mini, landed around three weeks after the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro. The iPhone 12 Pro Max also arrived with the iPhone 12 mini. But all iPhone 12 models were announced on the same day. iPhone 17: Reviews Reviews from selected press will be under embargo until one day in the run-up to release. For the iPhone, this will likely be Tuesday, Sept. 16 or Wednesday, Sept. 17. The timing can change but the embargo lift is often at 6 a.m. Pacific, 9 a.m. Eastern, 2 p.m. 17: Release Date Friday, Sept.19 This is customarily the Friday in the week following the keynote, and will be in the morning. Usually, this is 7 a.m. local time.
