Creamfields once again takes over Daresbury Estate in Cheshire for four days of unbridled EDM and communal spirit. Designing ‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps'
What if the dreams and design features of Disney's Tomorrowland were realized in 1960s Manhattan? One gets a sense of the possibilities in Marvel's 'The Fantastic Four: First Steps,' which begins on Earth-828, a doppelgänger for our own planet and the home base of the film's titular superheroes, before spilling out into space. This alternate universe includes mod fashions and flying cars, Flash Gordon-inspired rocket ships and robot butlers, midcentury modern chairs and space-age architecture. In this iteration of the franchise, directed by Matt Shakman, the superhero team inhabits a planet devoid of other Marvel superheroes — no X-Men or Spideys here — and a vastly transformed Manhattan simultaneously familiar yet alien. For the film's fashions, the Oscar-winning costume designer Alexandra Byrne ('Elizabeth: The Golden Age') looked at everything from Ernst Haas photos and '60s ski wear to fashion designers like Rudi Gernreich and Bonnie Cashin. Little was overlooked. Byrne even wrestled with the challenges of how the massive Thing might dress himself. 'He's got rock hands,' she said. 'He would never be able to do buttons up.' Other artists and designers drew from concept cars, Modernist architects, period newspaper comic strips and archival NASA footage to create the film's retrofuturist world, said the production designer Kasra Farahani. 'So much of retrofuturism is kind of jokey and naïve,' he said. 'We were looking to move past that, to take the important archetypical bits, the tail fins, the turbines, the visual icons of that era, but then shed some of the silliness and move to a more sophisticated version of midcentury futurism.' Below is a closer look at how three specific design aspects were achieved. Want all of The Times? Subscribe.

Tomorrowland music festival is coming to Australia for the first time in 2026
Tomorrowland is making it's Australia debut in 2026. The iconic music festival, which is held annually in Belgium, is bringing its CORE stage to Melbourne in November next year, which will mark a first for the festival Down Under. A TikTok was shared over the weekend by a Tomorrowland attendee featuring a world map poster at this year's festival in Boom. On the map, locations were circled to show where the CORE stage would be travelling to next year. The list of cities included Medellin, Colombia in February 2026, Los Angeles, California in May 2026 and Melbourne, Australia in November 2026. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. The CORE stage was first introduced by Tomorrowland in 2017 and aims to bring some of the biggest DJs of underground electronic music to places across the globe. Some of the past locations the stage has popped up in include Brazil and Tulum, becoming renowned for its jungle-inspired design and unmatchable festival experience. While Tomorrowland hasn't directly confirmed it yet, the festival is expected to announce the Melbourne show either at the end of the year or the beginning of next year, with ticket, lineup and venue details sure to follow. The exciting news comes as a welcome surprise in a time when the live music industry in Australia is facing significant challenges. This year has seen a slew of major music festivals axed, including multi-city event Listen Out, R'n'B festival Souled Out and the ever-iconic Splendour in the Grass. It was revealed in January that Splendour in the Grass would not be returning in 2025. Organisers officially confirmed that the beloved Byron Bay music festival would not go ahead for a second year in a row via social media. 'Hey gang, sorry it's been so quiet, but we had a little holiday…finally,' a statement published on the festival's Instagram and Facebook channels read. 'The rest of the festival team have still been busy cooking up some awesome new things for music lovers in Australia, but Splendour needs a little more time to recharge and we won't be back this year.' The 2024 Splendour festival, which was set to feature the likes of Kylie Minogue, G Flip, Tash Sultana, and Fontaines D.C., was axed less than a week after tickets went on sale, with organisers citing 'unexpected events' as the reason behind the last-minute cancellation. There is no guarantee that the festival is slated to return in 2026, however, organisers asked music fans to 'think of it as a breather so we can come back even bigger and better when the time is right.' The statement ended on a more hopeful note, with Splendour organisers saying there are 'lots of other huge events on the horizon.' 'So keep an ear to the ground in the coming months – we can't wait to share what we've been working on!' they added. In a separate statement to Rolling Stone, ticketing and touring company Live Nation said the Splendour festivals team 'has our full support to bring Splendour in the Grass back when they feel it's right.'

Fans in a frenzy at possibility Tomorrowland could come to Australia in 2026
Eagle-eyed fans believe Tomorrowland, or at least an offshoot of the world-famous electronic dance music festival, is Australia-bound for the first time in 2026. Attendees walking towards the CORE stage at this year's festival in Belgium over the weekend spotted a map installation that looked to be teasing upcoming locations. Among them was Melbourne, which appeared as a potential host in November 2026. A video of the map was shared on TikTok, where it has racked up more than 120,000 likes. Many believe at the very least Tomorrowland's CORE stage is on its way as part of a boutique event series. 'I wanna go so freaking bad,' one person said. If it does pan out that way, it would mark the bucket-list festival's Australian debut. If must be said that there is no confirmation at this stage. has reached out to Tomorrowland representatives for details but are yet to hear back. The TikTok video also suggested a festival could be held in Los Angeles in May 2026. Tomorrowland is held annually in Boom, Belgium, attracting 400,000 festivalgoers from around the world. It was first held in 2005 and has grown to become one of the world's biggest music festivals. Just two days before the 2025 event was due to start, a raging fire destroyed the famous main stage. But heavy metal band Metallica came to the rescue, reportedly offering up some of their world tour stage equipment that was in storage to ensure the show could go on. Tomorrowland spin-off festivals have previously been held in the US, Brazil, Colombia and Mexico.
