"Huge Blessing": Farooq Abdullah Takes A Ride In Vande Bharat From Srinagar

Srinagar (Jammu and Kashmir): Jammu and Kashmir National Conference chief Farooq Abdullah took a ride on the Vande Bharat train from Nowgam Railway Station in Srinagar to Katra. Nowgam Railway Station is a crucial part of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Railway Link (USBRL) project, connecting Kashmir to Jammu area and the rest of India. Speaking to reporters, Farooq Abdullah expressed his happiness and termed this train as "a huge blessing" for the people of Jammu and Kashmir. He added that the train will benefit the people of J-K and tourists a lot. The National Conference chief said, "I am very happy that I am travelling on this train to Katra. This is a huge blessing for us and is going to benefit tourists a lot. It is difficult to travel by road, and prices for air travel are extremely high. This train is going to benefit us a lot." The two Vande Bharat Express trains from Katra Railway Station, directly connecting the Jammu division with Kashmir, were flagged off by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on June 6. The new Vande Bharat Express train will take just about three hours to travel between Katra and Srinagar, reducing the existing travel time by two to three hours. These trains have been specially designed to operate in the cold climatic conditions of the Kashmir Valley. The train will run through the Anji Khad Bridge, which is India's first cable-stayed railway bridge, and the Chenab Bridge, which is the highest railway arch bridge in the world. Prime Minister also inaugurated the world's highest railway arch bridge - 'Chenab Railway Bridge' and India's first cable-stayed 'Anji Bridge' in Jammu and Kashmir's Reasi district. This marks a major milestone in Jammu and Kashmir's railway connectivity. The architectural marvel Chenab Rail Bridge, situated 359 metres above the river, is the world's highest railway arch bridge. It is a 1,315-metre-long steel arch bridge engineered to withstand seismic and wind conditions. A key impact of the bridge will be in enhancing connectivity between Jammu and Srinagar. All these projects are part of the ambitious Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project. The USBRL project is 272 kilometres long, constructed worth around Rs 43,780 crore, includes 36 tunnels (spanning 119 km) and 943 bridges. The project establishes all-weather, seamless rail connectivity between the Kashmir Valley and the rest of the country, aiming to transform regional mobility and drive socio-economic integration.

It was a dream of Atal Vihari Bajpayee, moved forward by Manmohan Singh and completed by Modi ji. I am thankful to the engineers and workers who made the world's highest bridge. We can go to Kanniyakumari, Patna, Kolkata, Mumbai, and Assam by rail. It will help in tourism. It is the railways which don't shut down even in snowfall. TRSL's foray into wheelset manufacturing timely amid supply disruptions: Official

Titagarh Rail Systems Ltd ( TRSL ) has entered the forged wheel manufacturing business through a joint venture with Ramkrishna Forgings , aiming to ease the country's ongoing shortage of wheelsets which is crucial for train and coach production, an official said on Tuesday. The company's Freight Rolling Stock vertical reported a 5.6 per cent jump in consolidated revenue to Rs 3,610 crore for FY25, the official said adding that the new vertical aligns with the Centre's push for import substitution and self-reliance under the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative. The company stated that its plan to stabilise production at around 950 to 1,000 wagons per month was hampered over the past two quarters due to a shortage of wheelsets. It attributed the issue to supply constraints at the Rail Wheel Factory in Bangalore, the mandated supplier under railway board contracts. "One of the most significant developments of the year has been our foray into wheel manufacturing. We see this as a national service and a big opportunity. The import dependence must end," Vice Chairman and Managing Director Umesh Chowdhary told PTI. Live Events India has been heavily dependent on imports of forged wheels from countries like China, Ukraine, and Russia. Geopolitical situations like the war in Ukraine, combined with logistical bottlenecks and limited the global supply chain. There had also been disruptions at the mandated supplier under railway board contracts, Rail Wheel Factory in Bangalore. "This led to production delays in key rail and Metro projects , including the Vande Bharat trains," Chowdhary said. TRSL said it aims to not only meet domestic demand but also emerge as a global supplier. "We are not just creating a facility to meet domestic requirements-we are also looking at becoming a global supplier of forged wheels," Chowdhary said. The company's current order book stands at Rs 24,526 crore, offering over three years of revenue visibility, according to management. "This backward integration will give us better control over costs, quality and timelines. It's a strategic move," the official said. The forged wheels unit is expected to come online in the next financial year, initially catering to Indian Railways , Metro corporations and captive consumption. Industry estimates suggest that India requires over two million railway wheels annually. However, domestic production capacity has historically been constrained, leading to significant reliance on imports. Recent initiatives to enhance indigenous manufacturing aim to reduce this dependence and cushion against potential geopolitical supply disruptions. TRSL is also focusing on exports, digitalisation and electric propulsion technology in partnership with ABB and has recently completed deliveries for the Pune Metro project.

Farooq Abdullah boards Vande Bharat from Srinagar, calls it boon for locals and tourism

Srinagar, June 10 (UNI) Days after the launch of the Katra-Srinagar Vande Bharat Express, National Conference president Farooq Abdullah boarded the train from Srinagar, hailing the service and calling it a boon for locals and tourism. Launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the two semi-high-speed trains connecting the Valley with Jammu's Katra town began operations on June 7. Since their inauguration, the trains have gained immense popularity among locals, pilgrims, and tourists, with bookings already at full capacity. Before boarding the train, Abdullah told reporters that the train service would give a significant boost to tourism and ease travel for residents. "I am very happy to be travelling on this train to Katra. It is one of the biggest benefits for us,' said the former Chief Minister. He emphasised that the Vande Bharat service offers a much-needed alternative to the Srinagar-Jammu highway, which is often unreliable due to landslides and weather-related disruptions. 'The road gets closed frequently, and airfares shoot up during such times. This train will save spare people from those difficulties,' he said. Abdullah also noted that the train service will positively impact the tourism sector and the region's horticulture industry. Vande Bharat Express trains run between Srinagar and Katra via Banihal six days a week, except Wednesday. UNI MJR ARN
