Kwasniok reveals talks: he nearly joined these Bundesliga clubs
Lukas Kwasniok is kicking off the Bundesliga season with 1. FC Köln and is looking forward to working with the traditional club. However, he almost ended up with two Bundesliga competitors. In the 'Phrasenmäher' podcast, he revealed that he almost switched to VfB Stuttgart a few years ago: "It was obvious at the time, there were in-depth discussions." This was in 2023, when sports director Fabian Wohlgemuth had moved from Paderborn to VfB and almost took his coach with him. The second division team did not want to lose two key figures at the same time: "SC Paderborn simply did not let me go. They put a stop to it and that was the end of the opportunity," says Kwasniok. Half a year ago, HSV knocked on the door, with which Kwasniok would have also liked to try for promotion: "Again, SC Paderborn did not play along. (...) I grudgingly accepted it the first time, but accepted it. I was also very grateful that the club had saved my butt in one or two private situations. So I did feel like I was in the right place." However, it was not easy: "But when you get the opportunity to coach a big traditional club and it becomes concrete, it is hard to accept." Stuttgart working on permanent deal for Arsenal's Fabio Vieira
VfB Stuttgart are working on a deal to sign attacking midfielder Fabio Vieira from Arsenal. The German club have approached their Premier League counterparts about Vieira. The 25-year-old was loaned to Porto last season but Stuttgart's interest is over a permanent move. An agreement has yet to be reached but talks are ongoing, with Arsenal likely to seek a respectable price for a player they recruited for up to €40million in the summer or 2022. The Portugal international is into the final two years of his contract at the Emirates Stadium. Vieira came through the ranks at Porto and joined Arsenal in a deal worth an initial €35million plus €5m in add-ons in June 2022. Advertisement He made 22 Premier League appearances in his first season in north London but just three from the start, and similarly struggled for game-time in the following campaign, starting twice in the top flight. Vieira returned to Porto on a season-long loan in August 2024, and was a regular as they finished third – behind champions Sporting CP and Benfica.

Taking to his official Instagram account, Chema bid farewell to the club with whom he has spent the last seven years, writing: 'After 7 years, it's time to say goodbye to what has been my home, and my life all this time. I arrived as a child wanting to learn and play football, and today I'm leaving as a totally different person, full of memories, lessons and, above all, people who have marked my path. To all those who have been there day after day… thank you from the bottom of my heart. Thank you for making every training, every game and every moment worthwhile. It is not easy to close this stage. I have lived things that I will never forget, and I leave with my head held high, knowing that I have given everything for this badge. Thank you so much. I will always carry this club in my heart. Hala Madrid!' Conor Laird – GSFN
