Morocco vs. Senegal: Time, Stakes, and Where to Watch Tonight's WAFCON Showdown

Rabat –All eyes will be on tonight Rabat's Stade Olympique as hosts Morocco face Senegal in a crucial Group A match at the Women's African Cup of Nations ( WAFCON ) 2025. Kick-off is set for 8:00 PM local time, with the stakes high for both sides in this third and final group stage fixture. The Atlas Lionesses , lifted by their home supporters, need just a draw to book their place in the next round. Sitting atop Group A with four points, level with Zambia but ahead on goal difference, a win tonight would see them clinch first place and potentially set up a more favorable quarterfinal tie. For Senegal, the mission is clear: only a win keeps them in contention. Currently third in the group with three points, the Lionesses of Teranga are determined to upset the hosts and keep their WAFCON campaign alive. The two sides have met before, most notably last October when Morocco dominated Senegal 7–0 in a friendly. But both teams insist that this result belongs in the past. 'That match helped us identify our weaknesses,' said Sadiqatou Diallo, Senegal's U20 captain who has since graduated to the senior squad. 'We've worked hard since then, and this is a completely different context.' We've seen what Senegal achieved against DR Congo and Zambia. They're a disciplined team with quality and determination,' she noted. Morocco coach Jorge Vilda is focused on staying true to his side's identity. 'We won't change our style. We have our model, and the players are motivated to deliver a strong performance,' he said. Morocco have impressed offensively in the tournament, scoring five goals in their first two matches, though their defensive solidity remains a work in progress. Senegal, meanwhile, showed resilience and attacking flair in their narrow 3–2 loss to Zambia, earning praise for the performances of Nguenar Ndiaye and Mama Diop. The match will be broadcast live on Arryadia, available on its terrestrial network (TNT). It is also expected to air on beIN Sports 3 (in Arabic) and Canal+ Sport. In addition, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) may stream the game on its official YouTube channel (CAF TV), offering fans around the world another way to watch. Will Morocco secure their place as group winners on home soil, or will Senegal rise to the challenge and extend their tournament run? Don't miss what promises to be a thrilling encounter. Wafcon: Banyana Banyana v Tanzania

Banyana Banyana will look to seal their place in the WAFCON 2024 quarter-finals when they take on Tanzania in their second Group C clash on Friday night at the Stade d'Honneur d'Oujda in Morocco (21:00 SA time). The reigning champions opened their campaign with a 2-0 win over Ghana—goals from Linda Motlhalo and Jermaine Seoposenwe did the business—but the performance was far from flawless. Ghana struck the woodwork twice and forced several saves from Andile Dlamini, exposing areas Banyana will want to tighten. Tanzania, meanwhile, suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat to Mali but showed plenty of fight and promise. They'll welcome back suspended captain Opah Clement for this must-win encounter as they look to keep their knockout hopes alive. - CAF Media With three points already in the bag, Desiree Ellis' side knows another victory would not only secure progression to the last eight but also maintain momentum in their title defence, though the East Africans are unlikely to roll over.

Banyana Banyana kick off WAFCON title defence with win over Ghana

Banyana Banyana WAFCON 2024 campaign started on a high as the South African senior women's national team beat Ghana 2-0 at the Honneur Stadium in Oujda, Morocco. Goals from Linda Motlhalo and Jermaine Seoposenwe in the first half secured the reigning African champions their seventh consecutive win in the tournament. Played in searing 35 degree Celsius heat, Banyana Banyana were challenged by Ghana's physical presence, but coach Desiree Ellis's team kept composure and control from the start. The breakthrough came in the 28th minute when midfielder Noxolo Cesane, celebrating her 50th cap, was brought down in the Ghana box. A VAR review confirmed the penalty, which Motlhalo calmly converted. Just six minutes later, Seoposenwe doubled the lead after latching onto a precise pass from Lebohang Ramalepe, sending South Africa into the half-time break comfortably ahead. In the second half, South Africa managed the game well, with goalkeeper Andile Dlamini producing several brilliant saves to deny the West Africans. Ellis introduced Hildah Magaia, Regina Mogolola, and debutant Ronnel Donnelly to help maintain control and energy. Seoposenwe nearly added a third late on after a solo run past the 'keeper, but her shot narrowly missed the target. Ghana pressed forward and struck the crossbar twice, but couldn't break through South Africa's disciplined defence. Speaking after the match, Ellis praised her team's resilience and defensive organisation. 'I think they started really well. They had us under pressure the first 15 minutes. We changed things a bit, and then got out and started getting onto the ball a lot more because that is our strength. 'I haven't seen the penalty though, but I know the foul was in the box. Sometimes it goes for you, sometimes it doesn't. I think the second goal came at a great time. We could have finished it off with the third one.' She added: 'They had a couple of chances. But if you look at the game overall, I think it was even Stevens because Andile made quite a couple of saves as well. 'Defensively, we were really sound. We always know we're gonna create chances, and we always say if we can keep a clean sheet, we'll win the game. Our whole team played defensively really well, but it was extremely hot out there. 'The cooling break was welcome. I think we made the changes at the right time as well, and that also really helped to settle down the team. 'Take nothing away from Ghana. They're still a quality side. The first 15 minutes could have changed the game if we had conceded. But we stuck in there and took control to get the result we wanted.' Banyana Banyana will return to action on Friday, 11 July, when they face Tanzania in their second group match at the same venue. Kick-off is scheduled for 21:00 (SA time). Morocco triumphs over DR Congo in six-goal thriller

Morocco secured a dramatic 4-2 victory over Congo DR in a thrilling Group A encounter of the TotalEnergies CAF Women's Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2024 on Wednesday evening. The brilliant display was much needed for the hosts who drew with Zambia in their opening match earlier in the week. The match sparked to life early as DR Congo stunned the home favourites with a rapid opener in the 6th minute through Merveille Kanjinga, who finished confidently after a well-weighted through ball from Naomie Kabakaba. Morocco responded with authority and precision. Star forward Ghizlane Chebbak struck twice before the break — first in the 25th minute with a composed finish inside the box and again in the 43rd minute from close range — giving the Atlas Lionesses a deserved 2-1 lead at halftime. The second half brought more drama as both sides pressed for goals. DR Congo levelled in the 70th minute when substitute Flavine Mawete fired into the top corner following a clever assist from Marlène Kasaj, reigniting hopes for the central Africans. But Morocco would not be denied. Chebbak turned provider just five minutes later, setting up Imène El Ghazouani, whose cross found Chebbak again for her third goal contribution — a clinical strike that restored Morocco's lead at 3-2. The Atlas Lionesses sealed the win in the 83rd minute after Anissa Lahmari won a penalty, which was confidently converted by Yasmin M'Rabet into the bottom corner. Despite late attempts from DR Congo, including efforts from Kabakaba, Mawete, and Esther Dikisha, the Moroccan defence held firm with goalkeeper Khadija Er-Rmichi staying alert when called upon. With this result, Morocco continues its strong WAFCON 2024 campaign with another convincing performance, while DR Congo will look to bounce back in their next outing after showing glimpses of attacking promise.
