Mohammed V University Tops Webometrics Ranking in Morocco, Larger Maghreb
Rabat - Mohammed V University (UM5) in Rabat has claimed the top spot among Moroccan and Maghreb universities in the January 2025 Webometrics ranking.
The ranking classifies institutions based on their capacity to generate and disseminate knowledge globally.
UM5 reiterated its status as a major research university in the top 5% within the world ranking, while remaining first nationally and regionally.
That is very important, considering there were 31,364 universities and institutions taken into consideration for this year's ranking.
The performance is indicative of the key indicators: the visibility of the online presence of the university, the impact created by its researchers on Google Scholar, and the number of its publications that appeared in the top 10% of indexed journals in the Scopus database from 2019 to 2023.
UM5 attributed the success to the hard work of its faculty, doctoral researchers, administrative staff, and academic partners.
These are continuous contributions that enlarge the reputation of the university and strongly position it as a statue of excellence at both pedagogical and research levels.
The Webometrics ranking is an evaluation that the Cybermetrics Lab of Spain's National Research Council (CSIC) makes of universities throughout the world for their scientific research output and their online visibility.
This is not the first time the Moroccan university will gain such accolades.
In 2024, the Center for World University Rankings (CWUR) listed the strong performance of Moroccan universities, placing UM5 at the top of national rankings.
Of the 20,966 universities assessed globally, it took first place in Morocco and ranked 1007 worldwide, placing in the top 4.9% of the universities worldwide.
