Les Aiglons won four of their final five fixtures to snag fourth place at the end of the 2024/25 season, while Toulouse is hoping to progress its prospects after a mid-table finish. That being said, Nice has already started its campaign after losing to Benfica in a two-legged Champions League qualifier play-off. As a result, Franck Haise's men will settle for a spot in the second-tier Europa League. It was only two seasons ago that Toulouse took part in the continental competition itself, with the club targeting a return to those sunny climes this term. And manager Carles Martinez Novell will be bringing much of the same team to the fore this time around, though much of Toulouse's summer business has been through the departures gate. The same can be said for Nice, which has sold defender Jean-Clair Todibo (who spent last season on loan at West Ham anyway), striker Evann Guessand, and goalkeeper Marcin Bulka for a combined fee of around $100 million. The club has spent just $25 million on new signings in a frugal trend among Ligue 1 clubs this summer, but Nice will nonetheless hope it's enough to break back into the elite spots. Le Club Doyen finished one point off the relegation places in May after winning on the last day of the season, but visits the Stade Louis-II hoping to start with one foot forward this time around. Les Monegasques, on the other hand, were one of the few teams to give champion Paris Saint-Germain a run for its money in the hunt for last season's Ligue 1 crown. For a time, at least, as they aim to topple Luis Enrique's side from the throne this term and win a first league title in nine years. Monaco has operated with a shoestring budget in the transfer market this summer, but that doesn't mean there isn't a lot to be excited about in their latest recruits. Potentially most intriguing is the return of free agent Paul Pogba, the World Cup-winner who hasn't played a competitive game since September 2023 due to a ban over alleged drug offenses. Adi Hutter's side has also signed Spain gem Ansu Fati on loan from Barcelona, while Eric Dier has also signed as a free agent after leaving Bayern Munich. Le Havre has been similarly frugal and has not spent a cent on new signings, though no fewer than nine new faces could make their Ligue 1 debuts for the club. Just five points separated the two teams last term as Les Gones finished sixth, two spots above Lens, who will be desperate to make amends this season and break back into the European places. And Lyon's stars will recognize the man patrolling the home dugout at the Stade Bollaert-Delelis, considering Pierre Sage was the man leading them a little more than six months ago. Pierre Sage has been out of management since he was sacked by Les Gones back in January, replacing Will Still at the helm after he left to take charge of Southampton in England. And Sage has been busy recruiting a new wave of stars this summer after Lens has brought in no fewer than 11 new signings. Among those are former France international Florian Thauvin, center-back prospect Samson Baidoo, and Uruguayan attacker Martin Satriano. Lyon was threatened with relegation to Ligue 2 this summer due to its financial difficulties, but successfully overturned the decision on appeal. That has resulted in several high-profile stars, such as Rayan Cherki, Said Benrahma, and Lucas Perri, all leaving the club, with serious question marks as to what to expect of the French titan this term.
