New Apple iPad Pro Coming With Unique Camera Feature, Report Claims
The first Apple iPad didn't even have a camera. It looks as though the next iPad Pro, predicted to land this year, will have two front-facing ones. If that seems overkill, read on for the rationale and what to expect. Apple iPad Pro According to Mark Gurman from Bloomberg in his latest Power On newsletter, 'Apple's M5 iPad Pro will have one noteworthy change besides a faster chip.' Let's be clear, this is not to turn the iPad into a better camera substitute: a large, flat slab of metal and glass can't match the ergonomics of a DSLR, for instance. Though, admittedly, that big screen is great for framing your shot. No, this change is all about unlocking the iPad. All current iPads, apart from the iPad mini, have a 12-megapixel Center Stage camera on the long edge of the tablet, that is, at the top when the iPad is in landscape orientation. That works brilliantly for video calls, for instance. However, the iPad Pro is unique in Apple tablets in that it has Face ID as the way to unlock it — the others use Touch ID with a sensor in the power button. Trouble is, if you want to use the iPad Pro in portrait orientation, that landscape camera doesn't always work quite as well to unlock effectively. 'Fans of portrait mode suddenly found it harder to unlock the device and use the front camera. So, what's the solution? Pretty simple actually: Apple is apparently adding a second, portrait-side front-facing camera to the upcoming M5 iPad Pro, presumably so FaceTimers and selfie fans can use the device equally well in either orientation. This isn't particularly revolutionary, but it's a nice enhancement,' Gurman said. How will this look on the tablet, you might ask? After all, two cameras could look like overkill. Gurman has an opinion: 'The latest approach shouldn't be too objectionable, in contrast, since the dual cameras mostly disappear behind the black bezel,' he explained. I'd agree with that, though it might take a little getting used to for the more eagle-eyed and discerning user. The last iPad Pro was released in May 2024, so it's possible the next one will land this fall, or else spring 2026.

Apple's new iPad Pro could get another front-facing camera
Apple's upcoming iPad Pro could appease fans of both landscape and portrait mode by including two front-facing cameras. That's according to a report from Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, who says Apple is adding a camera to the top of the device, in addition to the one it introduced lengthwise last year. The last-gen iPad Pro swapped the tablet's conventional portrait-oriented camera for a landscape one, making it more convenient for people who exclusively hold or prop up the device horizontally. But a second camera could make it easier to have FaceTime calls, take selfies, or unlock the iPad Pro no matter where you place your hands, as you won't have to worry about covering up one of the cameras. Along with the new camera, Bloomberg reports that Apple could outfit the iPad Pro with an upgraded M5 chip. A previous report from Bloomberg suggests that Apple could launch the iPad Pro as early as this fall, while reserving upgrades to the entry-level iPad and iPad Air by next spring.

This iPad Pro camera rumour may surprise you, but it makes more sense than you think
The latest iPad Pro, complete with OLED display, M4 processor, and support for the new Apple Pencil Pro, is fantastic. Five star fantastic, in fact, since that's the score it got in our review. But many power users have complained about the tablet's portrait front-facing camera – the one at the top of the device. Apple's 10th-gen iPad switched this out for a landscape one, which makes much more sense when you're video calling. But it was notably absent on the iPad Pro – until now, allegedly. According to a new report from Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, the next iPad Pro could ship with not one but two front-facing cameras – one for both landscape and portrait orientation. It sounds excessive at first, doesn't it? But the more I think about it, the more I reckon it actually solves one of the iPad's most quietly annoying quirks. While having the selfie snapper in landscape orientation makes sense for Zoom calls or other productivity needs – it's actually more limiting. Angry mod, let me explain. While the portrait-oriented camera meant your eyes weren't centred or you had to put your iPad at a weird angle, you could still use it in landscape mode. You simply cannot use the landscape-oriented camera in portrait mode. Which sucks for selfies (yes, some people do take them), FaceTime calls, or moving around with the device. So, Apple giving us the best of both worlds on the next iPad Pro actually makes sense. With two front-facing cameras, the iPad Pro could auto-detect your orientation and pick the right camera to centre your mug – whether you're FaceTiming, snapping a shameless selfie, or trying not to fall asleep on yet another Zoom call. I think this would feel like a proper quality-of-life upgrade, rather than just another spec sheet filler. As for the rest of the iPad Pro, we know some other information already. Apple's expected to shove its shiny new M5 chip into this model, which should bring the usual generational bump in performance and battery life. The rear camera will also likely see a spec bump, and the new device will likely come with iPadOS 26 out of the box. The next iPad Pro is rumoured to launch later this year.

Apple to launch M5 iPad Pro in 2026, report says it will come with two front-facing cameras
Apple is reportedly working on the next version of its iPad Pro, expected to launch in late 2025, and this time, the biggest talking point might be the front-facing camera, or say, dual-front-facing cameras. According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, Apple plans to add a second front camera to the upcoming M5 iPad Pro, giving users a better experience no matter how they hold the device. This move comes after some criticism of last year's M4 iPad Pro, where Apple shifted the front camera to the landscape edge. While many users appreciated the change for video calls when using a keyboard, others found it less ideal for portrait use. The new dual-camera layout is likely Apple's way of solving both problems in one idea is simple — one camera stays on the landscape side for video calls when the iPad is docked or used in landscape mode, and the new camera will sit on the portrait side for when users hold the tablet vertically. This also means Face ID will likely work more smoothly in both orientations, especially for those who regularly switch between using the iPad Pro as a laptop and as a than the camera change, the M5 iPad Pro isn't expected to bring major upgrades over the M4 iPad Pro, since the last-generation model was a pretty big upgrade over the M3 version. So, the design of the M5 iPad Pro will likely remain the same, with 11-inch and 13-inch OLED displays that support ProMotion tech for a smooth 10-120Hz refresh rate. Storage options will go up to 2TB, and users can expect the usual USB-C port with Thunderbolt 3 support. The rear camera should stay unchanged too, featuring a single camera sensor — probably a 12-megapixel lens — along with a LiDAR sensor and an LED flash. If you haven't guessed by now, under the hood, the new iPad Pro will be powered by Apple's upcoming M5 chipset, which should deliver better battery life and performance improvements over the M4 chip, particularly when multitasking or using pro apps. While exact performance figures aren't known yet, the next-gen iPad Pro could be the first device to run the chip, with M5-powered MacBook Pros also expected later this at the expected release timeline, the M5 iPad Pro will likely ship with iPadOS 26, which is said to bring a bunch of productivity upgrades. As witnessed during WWDC earlier this year, iPadOS 26 includes better window management, support for background tasks, an improved Files app, and even new tools for audio details will likely surface as the launch gets closer, but for now, the dual-camera setup is the most interesting development. iPad Pro M5 tipped for big dual-camera upgrade — but not where you'd think
Apple's next iPad Pro with an M5 chip is a surefire bet to be one of the best iPads you can buy, and it looks to already be in production for a late-2025 launch. Now we hear it may arrive with another camera — and it's a throwback to the tech giant's earlier tablets. The iPad Pro M5 is set to deliver dual front-facing cameras, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman. Now, the upcoming tablet is tipped to have both a landscape and portrait camera, meaning it can be positioned to use FaceID, go on video calls or take selfies in both ways. The current iPad Pro M4 ditched the portrait camera for a 12MP front landscape camera that sits along the edge of the tablet, which is much more in tune with how it's generally used when placed on a Magic Keyboard. But Apple now seems to want to bring the portrait camera from the iPad Pro M2 back, possibly delivering the best of both orientations. Whether both cameras will offer 12MP resolution (or higher) and allow for FaceID is still in question, although it's worth noting that FaceID on the M4-equipped iPad Pro already works in both portrait and landscape orientation anyway. Both the 11- and 13-inch iPad Pro M5 models are looking to get the dual-camera upgrade, but we'll have to wait and see what the advantages are of having both lenses on the front. After all, Apple's Center Stage already keeps you centered in frame. While the next iPad Pro is now expected to deliver an upgraded dual-camera system and M5 performance boost, there's not much in the way of other major changes. The 2024 iPad Pro already jumped the M3 chip to offer speedy M4 performance, a gorgeous OLED panel (the Ultra Retina XDR display, as Apple calls it) and an even thinner, lighter design — one that even beats the iPad Air M3. Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. This year's slated model isn't expected to deliver any other major improvements, aside from possibly being the first Apple product to feature an M5 chip and now having a dual front-camera system. That said, there may be other surprises up Apple's sleeve, and iPadOS 26 will bring plenty of updates. The iPad Pro with M5 is expected to be announced during Apple's usual fall event, with the tablet likely to be released sometime in September or October. The last iPad Pro launched in May 2024, and now it may not be much longer until we see what the next Pro-level tablet has to offer. That's not the only M5-equipped machine Apple appears to have coming up this year, as a leaked Mac lineup shows MacBook Pro M5 and more are on the way, too.
