Netanyahu's son buys expensive apartment in UK, registers it under different name
ALBAWABA - Hebrew media has been buzzing in the past few days over the report that the son of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had bought an expensive apartment in the United Kingdom and registered it under a different name, the Middle East Eye said.
Israeli business and economics newspaper, the Calcalist, reported that Avner Netanyahu paid $680,000 to buy an apartment in Oxford back in 2022, but he didn't have to legally report the purchase to the Israeli tax authorities.
According to the Calcalist, the son of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu paid exactly 1.98 million shekels to get the home in the UK, which is a bit below the foreign asset reporting threshold of two million shekels.
Sources reported that Netanyahu registered the new apartment in Oxford under the name Avi Avner Segal - a legal alias he adopted based on his paternal grandmother's maiden name.
It is worth noting that Netanyahu got the apartment without the need to get a mortgage.
"I changed my name on my ID card at the Israeli interior ministry, and then changed my passport and driver's licence. It's a package deal," Avner Netanyahu said.
