Syria: Government denies Suwayda blockade
Shafaq News – Damascus On Wednesday, Syria's Interior Ministry dismissed claims of imposing a blockade on Suwayda as part of a 'deceptive media campaign' led by 'unlawful groups.' Interior Ministry Spokesperson Nour al-Din al-Baba asserted, on X, that the government had worked with local and international partners to open humanitarian corridors for aid and evacuations. — نور الدين البابا (@SyrianMoiSpokes) July 30, 2025 He accused armed factions in Suwayda of 'fabricating narratives to justify demands' for unsanctioned border crossings and to revive captagon and arms smuggling as a primary revenue source. عودة المؤسسات الشرعية للجمهورية العربية السورية لعملها في فرض سيادة القانون داخل المحافظة يهدد بقاء العصابات الخارجة عن القانون فيها، ويؤثر على تمويلها غير الشرعي، لذلك هي تروج لوجود حصار وتستغل الأزمة الإنسانية في السويداء، وتزيد معاناة المدنيين من أجل حفاظها على نشاطها الإجرامي — نور الدين البابا (@SyrianMoiSpokes) July 30, 2025 The government's denial coincided with the arrival of four fuel tankers carrying over 120,000 liters into Suwayda through the Bosra al-Sham corridor, along with reports of four prior convoys delivering food and medicine in coordination with aid agencies, according to state-run SANشز دخلت إلى محافظة السويداء 4 ناقلات محروقات عبر معبر بصرى الشام، تحمل أكثر من 120 ألف ليتر، ضمن جهود الحكومة لتأمين احتياجات الأهالي، ودحض المزاعم حول "الحصار".🔗 #السويداء #درعا #محروقات — الوكالة العربية السورية للأنباء - سانا (@Sana__gov) July 30, 2025 Despite these shipments, the United Nations continues to report dire conditions, with the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs citing insecurity, military checkpoints, and tensions as barriers to aid access and assessments. The crisis intensified after July 13 clashes between armed Bedouin factions and Druze fighters, later drawing in Syrian government forces and allied tribes. The UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported over 1,400 deaths—mostly Druze—and the displacement of around 176,000 civilians, while essential services remain largely nonfunctional despite a reported ceasefire. The watchdog added that pro-government factions continue to block the main Suwayda–Damascus highway. Agence France-Presse documented severe shortages of food, fuel, and medicine, alongside ongoing water and electricity outages, and long queues at bakeries across the province. #السويداء #درعا #سانا — الوكالة العربية السورية للأنباء - سانا (@Sana__gov) July 30, 2025 SANA also reported the evacuation of 280 people from Suwayda, including two injured and 15 bodies, with one convoy transporting 80 foreign nationals—American, German, and Jordanian—to Bosra al-Sham for transfer to the Nassib border crossing. Jordan's Foreign Ministry announced it had evacuated 112 Jordanians and other nationals through the Jaber–Nassib crossing in coordination with Syrian authorities.

Explosions shake Syria's Latakia
Shafaq News/ A series of loud explosions were heard on Wednesday between the coastal Syrian cities of Jableh and Baniyas, according to the state-run Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA). The agency reported that smoke was seen rising from the countryside near Jableh, a city in Latakia Governorate, with preliminary reports suggesting the blasts were caused by a fire at a former military site, which triggered the detonation of several missiles stored there. No further details have been released at this time.

Since then, Israel has intensified its military campaign, conducting more than 350 airstrikes aimed at missile depots, radar installations, and chemical weapons sites. Strikes have largely focused on Damascus, Homs, and Tartous, reportedly destroying over 70% of Syria's military infrastructure, including aircraft and naval assets. Israeli forces have also advanced into southern Syria, taking control of parts of the Golan Heights buffer zone. Israeli troops have also expanded to key positions, including Mount Hermon, where they are reportedly fortifying their presence for long-term control.

Syria under fire: Israel hits Latakia port
Shafaq News/ Israeli warplanes carried out airstrikes late Wednesday on port and military targets in Syria's coastal city of Latakia, Syrian state media reported. According to SANA, the strikes hit areas near Al-Bayda Port and locations within the city. Emergency teams were dispatched, but casualty figures and damage assessments remain unclear. #سانا #سوريا — الوكالة العربية السورية للأنباء - سانا (@SanaAjel) March 27, 2025 The bombardment also struck sites linked to the Syrian army's 110th Brigade. Separately, explosions were reported in Koum Mhaires village in northern Quneitra, coinciding with what was described as an 'Israeli ground incursion.' Israeli military has not issued a statement. Earlier, Israeli military announced targeting two military bases in Syria's Homs province. Since the fall of Bashar al-Assad's regime on December 8, 2024, Israel has escalated operations in Syria, targeting strategic infrastructure and advancing into key areas. Israeli forces have launched more than 350 airstrikes, aiming to dismantle missile depots, radar installations, and chemical weapons facilities. Strikes have primarily focused on Damascus, Homs, and Tartous, reportedly destroying over 70% of Syria's military assets, including aircraft and naval vessels. In addition to aerial campaigns, Israeli troops have entered southern Syria, occupying parts of the Golan Heights buffer zone—actions analysts say breach the 1974 disengagement agreement. Forces have also expanded to positions such as Mount Hermon, where they are reportedly reinforcing their hold for long-term control.

Germany: Iran behind violence in Syria's coastal region
Shafaq News/ On Thursday, German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock accused Iran of fueling the recent violence in Syria's coastal region, since Tehran-backed elements were allegedly linked to remnants of President Bashar al-Assad's forces involved in the unrest. Speaking at a press conference after meeting Syria's transitional president, Ahmed Al-Sharaa, Baerbock said, "Iran is one of the key actors violating Syrian sovereignty and is involved in the recent events on the coast." #سانا — الوكالة العربية السورية للأنباء - سانا (@SanaAjel) March 20, 2025 She called on Damascus to 'translate words into action,' urging the government to rein in extremist groups and hold those responsible for crimes accountable. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported on March 12 that at least 1,383 civilians—predominantly from the Alawite community—had been killed in the latest wave of violence in Syria's western coastal region.
