Taylor Swift rips in: ‘Males sports fans want more of me'

Perth Now4 days ago
Taylor Swift has delivered a cheeky jab to sports fans, just a day after news of her upcoming twelfth studio album, The Life of a Showgirl, sent fans into a frenzy.
In a short teaser for her much-anticipated debut on New Heights, the podcast hosted by her boyfriend, Travis Kelce, and his brother Jason, Swift took aim at those who have criticised her appearances at Kelce's NFL games.
'Thanks for having me on my favourite podcast,' the 35-year-old singer told the Kelce brothers.
She then added with a smirk: 'As we all know, you guys have a lot of male sports fans that listen to your podcast, and I think we all know that if there's one thing that male sports fans want to see in their spaces and on their screens … it's more of me.'
Earlier in the promo, Jason delivered a lengthy and highly enthusiastic introduction for Swift, calling her 'the most-awarded artist in the history of the American Music Awards, Billboard Music Awards, and iHeart Radio Music Awards,' while also noting her 14 Grammy wins.
'She is the only artist in the history to win album of the year four times. Last December, she wrapped up the Eras Tour, which spanned 149 shows across 51 cities, five continents. It was the most-attended tour of all time. Of all time!
'Her last album, the Tortured Poet's Department set a record 1.76 billion streams globally within the first week alone.
'Are you ready for it? Making your podcast debut, the most expensive guest in the history of shows – Taylor Swift!'
Swift could be seen holding back laughter as he spoke, eventually saying: 'That intro, Jason, oh my God … His soul has left his body. That was so good, that was so sweet.'

Karol G honoured to perform at NFL game in Brazil

Karol G will perform during the halftime show of YouTube's first-ever broadcast of an NFL game. The Colombian star will take to the stage when the Kansas City Chiefs play the Los Angeles Chargers at the Corinthians Arena in São Paulo, Brazil, on 5 September, and as well as being the video-sharing platform's first live football match, it also marks the NFL's debut in South America. Karol said in a statement: 'I'm so excited to be part of YouTube's first-ever NFL live broadcast, it's truly an honour and a moment I'm so proud to be part of. 'I've watched many NFL halftime shows over the years and now having this opportunity to bring my music to this global stage means the world to me. "I can't wait to celebrate with everyone in São Paulo and fans all around the world.' In addition, Kamasi Washington will perform the US national anthem at the game, while Brazilian artist Ana Castela will sing her home country's national anthem. Angela Courtin, vice president of connected TV and creative studio marketing at YouTube, is excited about the broadcast. She has said: 'This broadcast is a landmark moment in our partnership with the NFL, where the worlds of football, music and creators will powerfully collide.' Meanwhile, Karol is one of the few Latin artists – including Luis Miguel, Bad Bunny and Shakira – who have embarked on a global stadium tour and she recently admitted she still hasn't processed how monumental it is. She told Variety: 'I haven't spoken with [Bad Bunny], but I would love the opportunity to get to talk to him about the experience, because it is such a massive accomplishment that I haven't fully digested. When we first sat down to route the tour, everyone kept telling me, 'Don't you think it's too much too fast?' I'm so proud that we did it. I remember thinking 'My God, Shakira is doing this. I'm doing this?! I get to do what she does on this scale?!' It's insane.' The 34-year-old star recently hit out at critics of her song Latina Forever after she was accused of sexualising women. She said: 'I feel like the bigger the project gets, the harder the people get with me. I think there are different opinions on how I should and shouldn't be acting at this point in my career and it gets so confusing sometimes that it becomes hard to handle. 'It's difficult, because the video is incredible but I knew having us in bikinis with me singing about t*** and a** … I just knew it was going to be a talking point. But the way I see it, I am just singing of my realities. I don't want to change myself to have to please anyone, either. I have emotional songs on this record that are soul-touching, and then I have my fun and sometimes raunchy songs - Latinas are everything. Why can't we just be everything?'

Patrick Mahomes had doubts about Travis Kelce's romance with Taylor Swift at first

Patrick Mahomes was doubtful when Kansas City Chiefs team-mate Travis Kelce told him he was dating Taylor Swift. The Chiefs quarterback revealed that his friend Kelce had told him about the pair's relationship but explained that it was only when the pop star attended her first NFL game in September 2023 that he realised that the romance was genuine. Speaking in the ESPN docuseries The Kingdom, Mahomes said: "He told me during the week. It was one of those where I gotta see it until I believe it." Travis and Taylor's relationship was confirmed when the Blank Space singer attended the Chiefs' Arrowhead Stadium for the NFL clash against the Chicago Bears and Mahomes admits that her presence at the game generated a "buzz". The 29-year-old sports star said: "You definitely felt the buzz and you could see people in the stadium gravitating towards where she was up there. At the same time, we had business to handle." Chiefs defensive tackle Chris Jones was astonished when the team discovered Taylor's relationship with Kelce. He recalled in the documentary: "We were in the locker room like, 'Taylor Swift's here. Taylor Swift? For real? With Travis? Oh my God!' "We were like, 'Oh my God Travis pulled Taylor Swift.'" Taylor recently compared Travis wooing her to being a John Hughes movie as she opened up about how the pair's romance came about. The 35-year-old singer said in a revealing interview on her boyfriend and his brother Jason Kelce's New Heights podcast: "This dude didn't get a meet and greet and he's making it everyone's problem. "That's what I thought at first... You realise he didn't even reach out to our management. He came with Pat [Mahomes] and he thought that because he knows the elevator lady, that he could talk to her about just getting down to my dressing room." She continued: "It felt more like I was in an '80s John Hughes movie, and he was standing outside of my window with a boombox saying, 'I want to date you! Do you want to go on a date with me? I made you a friendship bracelet! Do you want to date me?" The Cardigan singer acknowledged that Travis, 35, turned out to be the guy she'd been manifesting in her songs. She smiled: "I was like, 'If this guy's not crazy, this is sort of what I've been writing songs about wanting to happen to me since I was a teenager.'"

George Michael would have approved of Taylor Swift tribute

George Michael's former partner believes the late singer would have been proud of Taylor Swift's upcoming tribute. The Bad Blood hitmaker announced her long-awaited new album, The Life of a Showgirl, earlier this week and among the tracks is a song called Father Figure, which will feature the melody from George's 1987 track of the same name. Kenny Goss - who was in a relationship with George from 1996 to 2009 - told TMZ the Careless Whisper singer would have totally approved of Taylor's song and while he never met the 35-year-old pop star before his death in 2016, the art dealer is pretty sure his former partner would have been a fan and appreciated someone of her standing taking an interest in his work. Kenny himself is a big fan of Taylor's music and though he had no idea she planned to interpolate Father Figure on her new album, it was a welcome surprise. Taylor announced The Life of a Showgirl earlier this week and has explained the prominent use of the colour orange in the artwork and promotional teasers for the record. During an appearance on the New Heights podcast with her boyfriend Travis Kelce and his brother Jason Kelce, she said: "I've just always liked it ... It feels like energetically how my life has felt - and this album is about what was going on behind the scenes in my inner life during [The Eras Tour], which was so exuberant and electric and vibrant." The Karma singer also talked about the album's artwork, which shows her wearing a jewelled costume under the water in a bath and confessed the picture represents her at the end of a concert night because she always ends with a soak in the tub. She explained: "This represents the end of my night ... My show days are the same every single day, I just have a different city. And my day ends with me in a bathtub - not usually in a bedazzled dress ... [The album represents] the life beyond the show ... I would say it's everything that was going on behind the curtain." The Life of a Showgirl will be released on 3 October.
