S Club 7 singer Jo O'Meara has been rushed to hospital after revealing she was in "worst pain".
Chart-topping singer Jo O'Meara, of S Club fame, has been rushed to hospital. The 46-year-old shared a health update with her followers on social media from her hospital bed, looking downcast in a medical gown as she revealed she was experiencing back problems again.
She captioned the post: " Back in hospital! The back is back! I didn't expect to be in here today!" Just hours earlier, Jo had been celebrating her son Lenny's 17th birthday, expressing her pride for her "darling" child on Instagram. This isn't the first time Jo has suffered from back pain.
In 2022, she was rushed to hospital in severe pain. The 'Don't Stop Movin' singer underwent emergency surgery, which she later confirmed was unsuccessful.
At the time, Jo posted a picture of herself in A&E hooked up to an IV drip, saying: "When am I gonna get a break?? I really thought I was on the road to recovery."
She added, as reported by the Mirror, "4am this morning the pain was the worst it's been yet! So here we are again! I am devastated."
Her deteriorating health forced her to cancel several concerts and undergo surgery to remove a disc from her back, resulting in an eight-day stay at Queen's hospital in Romford.
Unfortunately, the operation was not successful and Jo required further surgery. She later shared her setback: "As you can see I'm back in bed. That is because the back is playing games again. The pain has been absolutely horrendous and today I got some MRI scan results back that wasn't the result I wanted. I've actually got to go back into hospital for further surgery on my back which I'm absolutely devastated about to be honest."
In a 2023 discussion on Loose Women about her health, Jo confided: "I'm a lot better than what I was. Yeah, it's been a really rough few months, to be honest. It's been very painful. I've had good days and bad days with it.
"I think sometimes you just got to soldier through it and then other times you just want to know how long the pain is going to last."
She has undergone four back surgeries to date. The singer has been dealing with chronic back pain for years and recalled having back problems starting in her early 20s. She sought help from an osteopath and found out she had a slipped disc.
"The sciatica was horrendous. The pain was the worst," Jo recounted. After her surgeries, Jo tried various pain medications including morphine, but none seemed effective at easing her excruciating pain.
The Reach singer experienced excruciating pain in 2022 that she initially mistook for a convulsion, causing her body to undergo shock. She immediately called for an ambulance and recounted the ordeal to The Sun: "I was sobbing and shaking. They came running in but I couldn't move. Every time I tried to get off the bed I was screaming and sobbing in pain."
Post-surgery, Jo faced months of physiotherapy before even considering a return to the stage, with permanent damage to her right leg. Despite doctors' warnings that she might not revert to her former lifestyle, she sensed the severity of her condition, especially since she's accustomed to back pain.
"I knew the feeling but it was ten times worse than what I've had before," she stated. "Back surgery is so complex and every time they go in, they're just weakening my back. I was absolutely petrified."

Taking to Instagram, Shirley posed alongside tattooist Tal Booker, 31, the brother of Love Island star Eyal Booker, 29, and showed off her new inking. Shirley previously discussed her loss on the Great Company podcast, revealing her family battled to have her brother get help before his tragic suicide. She said: "I was wrapped up in my life, because at that time, I had two other children I was taking care of, plus my own son, and they were all dancers, and I was just wrapped up in my world of ballroom dancing. "I was in London. He was up north, and my mother went to stay with him for six weeks. But my mother's old school, and they don't share. So, what I should have done then, if I look back now, is gotten the car straight away and gone to see the situation for myself. He was just in a bad place. "He explained it like being in a dark, black hole that he couldn't climb out of. He'd lost a lot of weight, and the doctors couldn't help him. "We tried to get him sectioned, and when, apparently, I wasn't there, but my mum was. When they took him in the car and they pulled up to the hospital, he recognized somebody that was stood on the steps, and he was too he was the macho man on the housing estate, and he was too embarrassed, he made them turn the car around. "So had she not been there that day, then maybe things could have been different. And it just nobody talked about things like that. No one talked about things like that at all, and they just popped in with pills, you know, like these antidepressants." And expressing her sadness over David's death, she said: "'I still remember the morning it happened. I call my mum to say that Mark, my son, would be performing at St Paul's church in London, and maybe they both like to come down for the day. "And my brother said, no, no, no, no, I'm feeling much better now. But you go mum, and against her better judgment, she didn't want to go. And I pushed her to go a little bit because she'd been there, you know, and was having this tough time. David didn't want to go, and it was that they chose to do that. "So, for that, I will live with for the rest of my life. She blames herself, but I blame myself because I was the one pushing her to go. She felt she shouldn't have left." Meanwhile, Tal has set out to raise funds for the anti-suicide charity CALM where he has planned to tattoo 24 designs within 24 hours. He explained via Instagram previously: "The most likely thing to kill a young person is themselves, and around 18 people day in the UK die by suicide. One of the ways we can change that, is by talking about it. "That's why I've teamed up with @calmzone to do a 24 hour tattoo-a-thon on the 7th and 8th June.
