AI171 crash: Centre issued nine notices to Air India for safety violations in six months; investigation under way
NEW DELHI: Over the last six months, Air India has received nine show cause notices linked to five different safety violations, according to minister of state for civil aviation Murlidhar Mohol in the Rajya Sabha.
Enforcement action has been completed in one case, while investigations continue into others.
A major focus of concern is the tragic crash of Air India Flight AI171 on June 12, 2025. The flight, a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner en route to London Gatwick, crashed shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad, killing 260 people.
The aircraft went down into a medical hostel complex near the airport, leaving just one survivor out of the 241 people on board.
The director general of the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) has ordered a formal investigation under Rule 11 of the Aircraft (Investigation of Accidents & Incidents) Rules, 2017. A preliminary report, published after a month of the incident, outlines initial findings, including mid-air engine failure, cockpit confusion, and failed recovery attempts within seconds of takeoff.

Union civil aviation minister Rammohan Naidu addressed the issue on the first day of the Parliament's Monsoon Session, reaffirming the government's commitment to a thorough probe. Despite the incident, MoS Mohol mentioned that no adverse reliability trends have been found in recent reports related to the crashed aircraft.
The full investigation is ongoing to determine the root causes and contributory factors behind the deadly crash.

Bizarre Claim On ‘Stranded Souls' Of Air India Crash Victims: ‘Article 51A(h) Leaves Chat'
Last Updated: Sanjiv Malik, a past life expert, said the souls of the crash victims were still at Ahmedabad Airport and asked that a prayer ceremony be held for them. The nation is still waiting for the final report on the Air India AI-171 crash, which led to the loss of at least 270 lives in Ahmedabad. While questions remain about what led to the fatal crash, one video has grabbed attention for its bizarre claim. The clip, which is going viral on Instagram. The clip, featuring past life expert Sanjiv Malik, said that the souls of the people who died in the air crash are still 'stranded' in Ahmedabad. The clip features Sanjiv Malik talking about the plane crash, which took place in June this year. He mentioned that the souls of the victims were still wandering at the airport. He asked the people of Gujarat to hold a prayer ceremony so that the departed souls could find some peace. How Social Media Reacted Many people agreed with Malik's claims. 'I agree with him and believe with him. I might sound weird to few people but karmic really plays a role in this tragic accident," an account wrote. Others were more critical. One person suggested, 'Why spreading such rumours, the government should rebuild the place and bring back students to occupy the rooms. 'Sorry to say but I have worked there for two weeks at the site with the disaster management team and there is nothing of this sort, so please don't spread any superstitions," a person countered. One comment read, 'Article 51A(h) of the Indian constitution left the chat and comment section." What Is Article 51A(h)? The article is part of the 11 Fundamental Duties listed in the Indian Constitution. It asks citizens 'to develop the scientific temper, humanism and the spirit of inquiry and reform." The Fundamental Duties are non-justiciable, meaning they cannot be decided by a court of law. However, they still give an insight into what the state expects from its citizens. The Indian Constitution is one of the few documents to use the phrase 'scientific temper" explicitly, The Wire said. Article 51A(h) showcases how it is the duty of every citizen to ensure they are not led by superstition to disregard science. The video about the 'stranded souls' at Ahmedabad Airport has once again ignited a debate about belief versus science. The comments section highlighted how many people are still split when it comes to believing in souls, reincarnation and karma. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. J&K: Footbridge between Narsoo and Swena collapses mid-construction; officials blame rain, begin probe
NEW DELHI: An under-construction footbridge connecting Swena and Narsoo blocks in Udhampur district collapsed recently. Built at an estimated cost of Rs 1.58 crore, the bridge was meant to fulfill a reliable connectivity between the two blocks. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now However, with construction still underway and the bridge in its launching stage, the structure gave way during recent rains, triggering an official probe and renewed appeals for accountability and urgent reconstruction. The collapse occurred between the villages of Dharmsthal and Narda, an area where geographical challenges like landslides and heavy rainfall are not uncommon. Officials and community leaders have weighed in, pointing to possible structural flaws, environmental triggers, and supervisory lapses. Narsoo village sarpanch Ashok Kumar Sharma acknowledged the importance of the project while attributing the collapse to natural causes rather than negligence. He said to news agency ANI, "Built to meet long-standing demand, it aims to provide transportation and access to schools, which people previously lacked... The incident was not due to negligence; instead, a storm with rain and strong winds caused rocks to slide, damaging the bridge. People expected to get the bridge soon, but it will take another 5-6 months. A committee should be formed, and the bridge's design should be changed." Subhash Chander, district development council of Narsoo, emphasized swift action and accountability, he added "It was a long-overdue demand. When work started, people were happy. The bridge connects two blocks, Narsoo and Sewna. After learning about what happened, we contacted the department, informed the local MLA, and Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh, who sent teams. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now An inquiry should be conducted to determine if there may be a technical fault. We appeal for it to be rebuilt soon. Whoever is found guilty, an action should be taken against them." Additional District Development Commissioner (ADDC) Udhampur, Rajinder Singh, provided details about the project status and the potential causes behind the collapse: "A few days ago, the district administration became aware that someone informed DC ma'am about a footbridge between Dharmsthal and Narda that collapsed due to rain. The under-construction bridge, built at Rs 1.58 crore, had been under construction for 1.5 years. The bridge was in the launching stage. According to regulations, its fastening may not have been done properly, which probably caused the collapse." (With agency inputs)
