Vijay Deverakonda refused the opportunity to act in Kuberaa. Here's why
'He didn't want to risk alienating his fan base,' the source added. 'Vijay is extremely aware of his image, and he felt that the audience might reject his role. A subdued, powerless role felt like a misfit to him at this point in his career.' Vijay had earlier worked with Sekhar in 'Life is Beautiful'. He had a cameo in the film. Ultimately, the role landed with Dhanush, who has been widely applauded for his powerful and immersive performance.'Kuberaa', which released on June 20, opened to strong reviews and has made a solid mark at the box office, raking in over Rs 125 crores worldwide. This low-budget film of Akshay Kumar was a blockbuster, made 17 times its budget, film was.., earned Rs… Akshay Kumar's Toilet: Ek Prem Katha became a blockbuster. Toilet: Ek Prem Katha earned 17 times its budget; it earned Rs. 317 crore. Toilet: Ek Prem Katha created a social impact. In the glitzy and glamorous world of Bollywood, nothing is predictable. While a lot of people assume that a big banner production and a superstar-studded cast are the secret ingredients of a blockbuster, time and again this stereotype has also been smashed. Sometimes, instead of massive production, high-octane sequences, or VFX, it is the compelling storyline that wins the hearts of the audience. One such similar tale is of a celebrated actor whose modest-budget film became one of the biggest hits of his career. The people in the picture are none other than Akshay Kumar and his blockbuster film, Toilet: Ek Prem Katha. How much did Toilet—Ek Prem Katha earn? This film was released during a time when most films were made on a staggering budget; however, this film, made on a modest budget of Rs 18 crore, turned out to be a massive hit and made 134.42 crore in India alone, while its worldwide earnings skyrocketed to Rs 317 crore. This Shree Narayan Singh film was not just a commercial hit but also critically acclaimed. The film also won hearts for its strong social message by showcasing a serious issue of sanitation and open defecation in an entertaining narrative. What's interesting is that this film was also well-received in the Chinese market, where the film received a phenomenal response and collected more than Rs 100 crore. Akshay Kumar's performance and cultural impact This film further cemented Akshay Kumar's versatility as an actor. Famously known for his comic timing and action sequences, Akshay proved that he could also lead a socially driven film with equal conviction. Starring opposite him was Bhumi Pednekar , who also received immense love, while actors like Divyendu Sharma and Anupam Kher added further depth to the story. From its strong message to impactful dialogues, this film created a buzz and opened discussions in society, and even aligned with the government's Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. Toilet : Ek Prem Katha wasn't just a film; it became a cultural moment, reminding people of the power of cinema to inspire social change. This film's success also shows that it's not the high-octane action sequence or bigger banner production that promises a blockbuster; rather, it's the impeccable performance of the actor and the strong storyline that create the most impact.

Coolie box office collection day 7: Rajinikanth-Lokesh Kanagaraj's crime thriller Rs 23 crore ahead of Hrithik Roshan-Jr NTR's War 2, earns Rs 222.5 cr
Coolie box office collection day 7: Lokesh Kanagaraj's crime thriller, starring Rajinikanth, has maintained its lead in India over its fellow pan-India release, Ayan Mukerji's spy thriller War 2, starring Hrithik Roshan, and Telugu superstar Jr NTR in his Bollywood debut. After the end of the opening week of both films (both released on August 14), Coolie is still around Rs 23 crore ahead of War 2. Coolie earned Rs 6.50 crore on Wednesday (day 7) at the domestic box office, a crore more than what War 2 did on the same day. For Coolie, this was a dip from its Tuesday (day 6) earnings of Rs 9.5 crore, which was a further decline from its Monday (day 5) collection of Rs 12 crore. However, unlike War 2, Coolie managed to maintain its first Monday earnings in double digits. Over the extended opening weekend, Coolie collected Rs 65 crore, Rs 54.75 crore, Rs 39.50 crore, and Rs 35.25 crore on Thursday (day 1), Friday, Saturday, and Sunday respectively. While War 2 opened at more than Rs 13 crore of War 2, it didn't see a rise in numbers on the occasion of Independence Day the next day, unlike War 2, which registered a decent spike, as per Sacnilk. However, the weekend collections of both films have been underwhelming, thanks to the bad to average reviews and word of mouth. The total box office collection of Coolie in India now stands at Rs 222.5 crore across all four languages — led by the original Tamil version, followed by the dubbed Telugu, Hindi, and Kannada versions respectively. On the other hand, War 2 has still not made it to the Rs 200 crore club as its opening week collection concluded on the edge at Rs 199 crore. Coolie has far surpassed Rajinikanth's last release, TJ Gnanavel's 2024 action film Vettaiyan, which amassed Rs 171.20 crore at the domestic box office. However, it's far behind the last release of Kanagaraj, Thalapathy Vijay-starrer 2023 action thriller Leo, which collected Rs 341.04 crore at the domestic box office. Kanagaraj is best known for creating the Lokesh Cinematic Universe or the Lokiverse, which consists of blockbusters like Karthi-starrer Kaithi (2019), Kamal Haasan, Vijay Sethupathi, and Fahadh Faasil-starrer Vikram (2022), and Leo. However, Coolie isn't a part of this cinematic universe. The next instalment in the Lokiverse is Bakkiyaraj Kannan's Benz, in which Kanagaraj serves only as his co-writer and the co-producer. Meanwhile, Coolie has earned over Rs 400 crore worldwide a week after becoming the fastest Tamil film to hit the Rs 150 crore mark globally (on its opening day itself). It also coincides with Rajinikanth completing 50 years in the film industry. However, the 'A' (adults only) certification of Coolie in India has also impacted its footfalls. Also Read — The Coolie effect: The star ensemble problem with our blockbuster cinema Coolie revolves around Rajinikanth's titular character who stands up against the exploitation and abuse of his colleagues by a corrupt syndicate in a port town. It also stars Nagarjuna, Shruti Haasan, Soubin Shahir, Upendra, and Sathyaraj, with a cameo by Aamir Khan. Produced by Sun Piuctures, it's distributed by Pen Studios.

FIR ordered against Bhojpuri actor Pawan Singh, 3 others
Varanasi: A court here has directed the police to register a case of fraud against Bhojpuri film actor-singer Pawan Singh and three others following a complaint by a local hotelier. The order was passed by the court of the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate-II after hearing an application filed by businessman Vishal Singh. The development has now come to light. Vishal Singh's counsel, Ashish Singh alleged that his client was duped in the name of investment in the 2018 film 'Boss'. According to the lawyer, Vishal Singh met Mumbai-based film director Prem Shankar Rai in 2017, after which he was introduced to several people associated with the project. It was alleged that Vishal Singh was persuaded to invest in the film with a promise of profit, and even a meeting with Pawan Singh was arranged to convince him. The complainant claimed that he deposited about Rs 32.60 lakh from his and his brother's firm into different accounts. In July 2018, he was declared a producer of the film and assured 50 per cent of the profits. Later, he invested another Rs 1.25 crore in the project. However, despite the film's release, Vishal Singh was allegedly not given his share of the profit. The businessman further alleged that when he demanded his dues, actor Pawan Singh threatened to kill him. The complainant approached the Cantonment police station and the police commissioner with his grievance. After no action was taken, he moved the court, which directed police to register an FIR against Pawan Singh and three others under fraud charges.
