Parrish woman killed in Manatee County crash on U.S. 301, FHP says
A 71-year-old Parrish woman got into a fatal car crash after running a red light on U.S. 301 in Manatee County, Florida Highway Patrol said in a news release.
The wreck happened around 1:19 p.m. Friday at the intersection of U.S. 301 and County Road 675 in Parrish, according to the agency.
Troopers say that the Parrish woman was driving a Toyota Prius westbound on C.R. 675/Rutland Road when she failed to stop for a steady red light at the intersection with U.S. 301.
Her car entered the path of a Ram 1500 pickup truck driving north on U.S. 301, and the truck hit the left side of her car, FHP said.
Emergency responders took the Parrish woman to an area hospital with serious injuries, where she later died, the agency said.
Troopers did not report any injuries for the 34-year-old Palmetto man who was driving the pickup truck.
The crash is still under investigation, FHP said.

Denver teen remains hospitalized following crash involving Aurora police pursuit
A 16-year-old boy from Denver is still in the hospital, nearly five days after the driver of a stolen truck crashed into a car with four teens inside. It happened last Saturday evening as Aurora police officers were chasing the stolen truck. That pursuit moved into Denver before ending in Glendale, where the truck collided almost head-on with a teen's car near South Cherry Street and Leetsdale Drive. "The truck made an impact where my son was sitting," said Ingrid Shea, mother of Kaelen, who remains hospitalized at Denver Health. Kaelen Shea Ingrid Shea Shea explained that her son was sitting in the back passenger seat when the collision happened. Kaelen and his friends had just finished a day-long ultimate frisbee tournament and were on their way to a community pool. Holding back tears, Shea described her son's injuries. "My son came into the ER with multiple brain bleeds, a broken jaw, and his sinus bones are fractured," she said. Since he was admitted, Kaelen's parents have barely left his hospital bedside. Along with fear for her son's well-being, Shea is questioning Aurora's pursuit policy, which was updated earlier this year to include stolen vehicles and DUI drivers. "I don't understand how a 12-minute police chase gets to happen in a populated area for a non-violent crime," Shea said. "That's what's not okay. It's not okay for my family, my child, and it shouldn't be okay for anybody else's." Aurora police shared a statement about the pursuit-turned-crash with CBS Colorado, which reads in part: "We know from experience that suspects who drive stolen vehicles are often involved in other criminal activity. If not apprehended, they continue to pose a serious threat to public safety. That's why our officers work every day to stop further victimization and prevent additional harm." Still, Kaelen's mother believes something else could've been done to stop the driver of the stolen truck, who could've easily killed her son. "There could've been four funerals that we were planning Sunday morning," she said, adding the other three teens have minor injuries, but it's still not clear when her child will leave the ICU. "I can't speak to all [Aurora Police] policies, but I think they need to be examined." As for the driver of the reported stolen truck, 26-year-old Michael Freyta has a lengthy criminal history. He has previously been arrested on charges for motor vehicle theft, ID theft, fraud as well as forgery. Freyta allegedly failed to maintain his status on the sex offender registry for Adams County, too, according to Aurora Police. "When individuals like Michael Freyta repeatedly choose to break the law, our responsibility is to act decisively to protect our community from further violence and danger." The Shea Family has set up a fundraiser to help with their son's medical bills, which will continue to add up as he will likely have future rehab for his traumatic brain injury.

2 teens injured in Lauderhill apartment complex shooting, officials say
Two teenagers were injured in a reported shooting Wednesday afternoon at an apartment complex in Lauderhill. The incident occurred shortly after 4 p.m. in the 2000 block of NW 43rd Terrace. According to officials, Lauderhill Fire Rescue transported two teen boys, a 16-year-old and a 17-year-old, to Broward Health Medical Center. Both are in stable condition . Images from Chopper 4 showed several police officers walking near a playground area inside the complex. Another section was cordoned off with yellow police crime scene tape. Police said the motive behind the shooting is currently unknown and that there is no known suspect at this time. The investigation remains active. Parents of slain rapper "Baby Cino" sue Hialeah and EMTs over leaked photo
The parents of murdered Miami rapper "Baby Cino" are suing the City of Hialeah and three emergency medical technicians, alleging a disturbing violation of privacy and dignity following his death. The lawsuit claims EMTs at the scene of Timothy Starks' fatal shooting in March 2022 took a photo of his lifeless body, which later surfaced online as cover art for what the family describes as a diss track posted to SoundCloud. The image showed Starks—known as "Baby Cino"—slumped in the passenger seat of a red Altima, where an unknown gunman shot and killed him. Photo used without consent adds to family's trauma Starks' parents, Angelica and Edner Yeye, say the trauma deepened when a close family friend sent them the song cover. The explicit photo was used without their knowledge or consent. Although the image has since been removed from the track, the emotional impact remains. "That is very heartbreaking as a mother," said Angelica Blount-Yeye. "That's a picture I cannot—and will never—get out of my head." The family believes someone among the EMT crew took the photo, which was then leaked. Their attorney, Tobechuku Nwahiri, said that while three individuals are named in the lawsuit, it's about uncovering the truth and holding the responsible party accountable. "If it's one person, there's an opportunity for that person to come forward," Nwahiri said. "Or for the others to say who was involved." Call for accountability and policy change CBS News Miami contacted one of the EMTs named in the lawsuit, who referred the station to the City of Hialeah. The city responded by stating it does not comment on pending litigation. "This is unacceptable," said Edner Yeye. "Somebody's got to be held accountable." Attorney Nwahiri expressed hope that the lawsuit would prompt municipalities and first responders to adopt stricter protocols regarding the treatment of the deceased. "We want to see policy change—to protect families and to respect the dead," he said. The Miami-Dade Police Department confirmed that the investigation into Starks' murder remains open. No arrests have been made.
