Synopsis
Dilip Joshi, best known for his role as Jethalal in Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah, lost 16 kilograms in just 45 days through a simple yet disciplined fitness routine. Preparing for a film role in the early 1990s, he committed to daily 45-minute runs along Mumbai's Marine Drive after work, without relying on diets, trainers, or gyms. His transformation highlights the power of consistency and old-school methods over quick fixes or fad trends.
Dilip Joshi's Simple Trick to Losing 16 Kg Without Supplements or Workouts Dilip Joshi, best known for his role as Jethalal in the long-running sitcom Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah, surprised many fans with a transformation that went far beyond his on-screen image. The 57-year-old actor managed to lose 16 kilograms in just 45 days—not through extreme diets or rigorous gym routines, but by following a simple, consistent approach rooted in old-school discipline. In contrast to his character's fondness for oily snacks like fafda and jalebi, Joshi maintained a no-frills fitness routine focused entirely on running. His inspiration stemmed from a film role in the 1992 Gujarati movie Hun Hunshi Hunshilal, where he portrayed a scientist. To convincingly play the part, he needed to slim down. That led him to commit to a daily 45-minute run, which soon turned into a life-changing habit.
Speaking to Mashable India, Joshi recalled how he would finish his office job, head to a nearby swimming club to change, and then jog the stretch from the club to Mumbai's Oberoi Hotel along Marine Drive—even in the rain. The round-trip would last around 45 minutes and became a non-negotiable part of his day during that period. This routine continued for one and a half months, helping him drop 16 kg without the aid of a trainer, special diet, or supplements. His approach was grounded in sheer consistency, showing how dedication alone can yield significant results.Joshi's experience aligns with scientific research on effective weight loss. A 2011 study in the Journal of Biomechanics concluded that running burns more calories than many other forms of exercise, making it a powerful strategy for those trying to create a calorie deficit.Unlike crash diets that often promise quick fixes, Joshi's story reinforces that sustainable weight loss is often the result of repeated effort over time. His fitness success came not from trends but from unwavering commitment—even when faced with less-than-ideal weather.Even years after his initial transformation, Joshi remains conscious of his health and fitness. While his TV persona may seem laidback and indulgent, the actor himself sets a different example, one that prioritizes regular physical activity and self-discipline.However, experts caution that such a rapid weight loss might not be suitable for everyone. Drastic lifestyle changes should always be made under medical supervision, especially to avoid unintended health issues.

Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah's Madhvi Was Once Called A 'Chain Smoker': 'I Was Just...'

Last Updated: Sonalika Joshi reveals what happened when one of her photoshoot led to unintended assumptions. Actress Sonalika Joshi needs no introduction. She has been playing the role of Madhvi Bhide in the popular show Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah for 17 years now. While the show has made her a household name, not many people know that she was once bashed brutally for one of her photoshoots. In a recent interview with Subhojit Ghosh, Sonalika recalled how a photoshoot of hers led to unintended assumptions. She mentioned that she was holding a cigarette as she posed for the cameras but people were quick to assume that she was a 'chain smoker". 'I was just holding it and sitting like that. I wasn't even smoking. It was just for the style, for the pose," Sonalika said and then added, 'Then suddenly, so many things came out on YouTube—'I'm a chain smoker' and what not." However, the actress mentioned that she decided to maintain her calm back then because she did not want to address the unnecessary rumours. 'I said, let them talk. My family is my most important, my greatest asset. If they know how I am, then what difference does it make what they print?" Sonalika, however, expressed disappointment with people for not being able to differentiate between a fictional character and reality. 'It was a proper photoshoot. The look was totally different. I wasn't casually smoking with a group or playing Sonalika doing that. If they don't understand that, let them talk," she said. 'Maybe they're enjoying it. Maybe their YouTube is getting views. Either they get some sadistic pleasure, or they just want to be judgmental. Let them," she added. Meanwhile, talking about TMKOC, the show has been running successfully for 17 years now. Previously, in an exclusive interview with News18 Showsha, the show's maker, Asit Kumarr Modi, talked about creating a TMKOC universe when he told us, 'People love TMKOC. It's been 15 years and people are still watching it. One can watch the show not only on television but on OTT, YouTube, and other platforms too. That's why I felt that I should do something with the characters of the show. Today Jethalal, Babita, Dayaben, Sodhi and other characters of the show have become household names. They are like everyone's family members." view comments First Published: July 18, 2025, 08:44 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
