'He was extremely upset': Jose Riveiro misses chance to reunite with Pirates?

Al Ahly head coach Jose Riveiro is reportedly upset with the club's management's decision not to allow to team to travel to Spain for their pre-season.
The 49-year-old Spanish coach joined the Red Devils in May from Orlando Pirates where he won five trophies in three years. During his time with the Buccaneers, Riveiro took his team to Spain twice for pre-season, which was one of the reasons why the Sea Robbers were successful.
According to Journalist Medhat Shalaby, the former Bucs coach wanted Al Ahly to have their pre-season in his native country, where he believed conditions would be more favourable for preparation.
'Al Ahly had agreed to hold a training camp in Spain, and the Spaniard Jose Riveiro wanted to hold the camp in his country, especially since the atmosphere in Spain is completely different from that in Tunisia at the moment,' Shalaby said per Elwatan News .
'The Spaniard, Riveiro, after learning that the camp would be held in Tunisia, expressed his great anger and was extremely upset.
'The Al-Ahly management convinced him and told him that the Etoile Sportive du Sahel club would cover the costs,' he added.
'In the end, Etoile Sportive du Sahel apologised, and the two friendly matches for Al-Ahly club will be held against both Stade Tunisien (already played) and Bizertin.'
Jose Riveiro could possibly have reunited with Orlando Pirates, given that the Buccaneers' pre-season was recently held in Spain.

'Same mistakes as last season': Khanye slams Kaizer Chiefs

Former Kaizer Chiefs winger Junior Khanye feel the team has not improved following their pre-season matches. Having played five matches in the Netherlands, Amakhosi locked horns with Asante Kotoko at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday. Despite a good performance, the Soweto giants went down 3-2 on penalties. When analysing the match, Khanye felt Kaizer Chiefs were still making the same mistakes from last season. 'If Nabi was a good coach, there are certain players he was supposed to release. He was supposed to sign quality players, irrespective if whether they are young or experienced. You can't have a defender who is technically gifted than your forward players, I'm talking about do you allow him to take a penalty? 'Going into the game, Kaizer Chiefs' back four played well, but let's be honest, they were not tested.' Khanye felt the Amakhosi midfield looked unstable. Although Chiefs dominated Asante Kotoko in the middle, the former winger said Nasreddine Nabi's team will get exposed this coming season when they get tested. 'I don't think Chiefs have a good player there. I think their scouters got it wrong there. Also number six position, they are playing with Mthethwa. Cele for me…you need to have a strong character. I don't think he is good enough for me. I don't think (Sibongiseni) Mthethwa and Cele have a good combination. Mthethwa for me, lacks awareness, is not good on the ball, and technically, he is poor. 'He is a good player when he's free, but can't play in tight spaces. He is not like (Sipho) Mbule, so they needed a number six with a strong character. I think things would have changed if they signed Mbule,' the former Kaizer Chiefs star said. Let us know by leaving a comment below, or send a WhatsApp to 060 011 0211. Rashford makes Barcelona debut in Japan friendly win

Marcus Rashford made his first appearance for Barcelona in a 3-1 pre-season win over J. League side Vissel Kobe in Japan on Sunday, coming on as a substitute. The English forward joined the Spanish champions on loan from boyhood club Manchester United this week and was thrust into action against Kobe in the second half. Barcelona had initially cancelled the match on Wednesday, citing unspecified "serious contractual breaches on behalf of the promoter". But the friendly went ahead and Eric Garcia opened the scoring in the first half for the visitors before Taisei Miyashiro equalised for the J. League team that retired Barca star Andres Iniesta once played for. Barcelona coach Hansi Flick changed his line-up at half-time and new signing Roony Bardghji restored their lead in the 77th minute. Pedro Fernandez added a third in the 87th minute. Barcelona are paying around 75 percent of Rashford's £325,000-a-week wage ($435,000) while he is at the club, with the player foregoing the rest, according to Spanish reports. The 27-year-old England international was out of favour under United coach Ruben Amorim and spent the final months of the 2024/25 season on loan at Aston Villa.
