EPFO hikes auto-settlement limit for advance claims to Rs 5 lakh in 'people-centric move'
New Delhi: In a big relief for millions of people, the Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has raised the auto-settlement limit for advance claims (ASAC) from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 5 lakh, Labour Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said on Tuesday.
The move will enable withdrawal of the amount without the requirement of manual verification.
EPFO first introduced auto-settlement of advance claims during the Covid-19 pandemic to provide quick financial assistance to its members.
'The limit for auto settlement of the EPFO claims has been increased to Rs 5 lakh. Such claims will get cleared within three days like the process for auto claims at present,' Mandaviya said.
In a post on X social media platform, the minister said this is another "people-centric move" under the Prime Minister Narendra Modi government.
'EPFO enhances Auto-Settlement Limit for Advance Claims from Rs 1 Lakh to Rs 5 lakh, with fast-track disbursal now within 72 hours,' Mandaviya noted.
In March this year, the Central Board of Trustees' Executive Committee (EC) had approved the proposal to enhance the ASAC limit to Rs 5 lakh. With an increase in the auto-settlement limit, the members can automatically withdraw up to Rs 5 lakh instantly.
In May 2024, the ASAC limit was increased to Rs 1 lakh from Rs 50,000.
According to the minister, in the first two-and-a-half months of the ongoing financial year 2025-26, EPFO has auto-settled 76.52 lakh claims, constituting 70 per cent of all the advance claims settled so far.
EPFO added as many as 19.14 lakh net members during April this year. This figure depicts a significant increase of 31.31 per cent over March.
A noticeable aspect of the data is the dominance of the young 18-25 age group who are in their first jobs. The EPFO added 4.89 lakh new subscribers in the 18-25 age group, constituting a significant 57.67 per cent of the total new subscribers added in April this year. New subscribers in the 18-25 age group added in the month show an increase of 10.05 per cent compared to the previous month of March 2025.
Around 2.45 lakhs new female subscribers joined the EPFO in April, which represents a 17.63 per cent increase compared to the previous month, the official statement said.

Amendments to facilitate the settlement of pending taxes, interest, penalties, and late fees for public sector undertakings will also be introduced. Other notable decisions include a waiver of Rs 31.75 crore in resettlement fees for people displaced from land reserved for the High Court complex at Bandra East. These premises will now be transferred to the public works department free of cost. 3.3 lakh kg of mangoes worth Rs 4 crore sold during kesar mango festival at Ahmedabad Haat
Gandhinagar: The state govt said that 3.30 lakh kilogrammes of mangoes worth over Rs 4 crore were sold at the month-long Kesar Mango Festival 2025, which was held at the Ahmedabad Haat in the Vastrapur area of the city. Eighty-five mango farmers from across the state put up stalls at the mango festival, which was organised by the Gujarat Agro Industries Corporation. An official statement said that the state govt has been organising the Kesar Mango Festival since 2007 to ensure citizens get chemical-free mangoes and farmers get fair prices for their produce. This year's festival was organised for a month beginning May 16. State agriculture minister Raghavji Patel said that this year, farmers sold over 3.30 lakh kilogrammes of mangoes, earning an income of about Rs 4 crore. In the last festival organised in 2023, 2.70 lakh kg of mangoes were sold, he added. Opposition in Ahmedabad civic body slams new proposals to lay white-topped roads
Ahmedabad: The road and building committee of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation will present three proposals to lay white-topped roads in various areas of the city, including Nava Vadaj, Chandkheda, Sabarmati, Vasna, and Navrangpura, on Wednesday. However, the opposition has raised objections to these proposals, two of which are single tenders. There is opposition to awarding all three projects to a single company and paying Rs 37.62 crore more than the estimated cost. Shehzad Khan Pathan, the leader of the opposition in the AMC, said, "Three separate proposals for white topping the roads in city's western areas is on the meeting agenda. One proposal suggests awarding all three projects to a single company at 26% to 31.50% rates higher than the estimated cost. The estimated cost for these three projects was set at Rs 129.86 crore, but it was decided to award them at Rs 167.48 crore — an increase of Rs 37.62 crore. We demand that these proposals be cancelled and re-tendered. In the past 10 years, AMC has not constructed a single quality road in the city. Roads get damaged during monsoon, causing inconvenience to citizens."
