The state cabinet has sanctioned Rs 20,000 crore for the Maharashtra Shaktipeeth Expressway, to link 18 significant pilgrimage sites across the state
In a major boost to both infrastructure and welfare, the Maharashtra cabinet has cleared several key proposals, including the ambitious Shaktipeeth Expressway connecting Pavnar in Wardha district to Patradevi on the Maharashtra-Goa border. The expressway aims to link 18 significant pilgrimage sites across the state, including the three and a half Shaktipeeths, two Jyotirlingas, Pandharpur, and Ambejogai.
The state cabinet has approved the planning and land acquisition for the high-speed corridor, to be developed through a dedicated project corporation. A provision of Rs 20,000 crore has been made for its implementation, aiming to improve regional connectivity and boost religious tourism.
Focusing on the welfare of tribal communities, the state government has approved a substantial increase in allowances for students residing in government-run tribal hostels. The monthly subsistence and meal allowances will now be doubled, offering relief to families from economically weaker backgrounds. Furthermore, the annual allowance for the purchase of educational materials has also been significantly increased, a step that is expected to enhance access to quality education for thousands of tribal students across Maharashtra.
The cabinet also granted revised administrative approval for the Koyna Dam Base Hydroelectric Project, one of the state's key renewable energy initiatives. In a move aimed at simplifying the tax regime, the government will introduce a new Maharashtra Goods and Services Tax Bill in the upcoming legislative session. Amendments to facilitate the settlement of pending taxes, interest, penalties, and late fees for public sector undertakings will also be introduced.
Other notable decisions include a waiver of Rs 31.75 crore in resettlement fees for people displaced from land reserved for the High Court complex at Bandra East. These premises will now be transferred to the public works department free of cost. The government also approved the use of 7,000 sq m of cemetery land in Mouje Chikhali, Pimpri-Chinchwad, for a sewage treatment plant. Additionally, the state will guarantee a Rs 2,000 crore HUDCO loan under the Urban Infrastructure Development Scheme, benefitting water and sewage projects in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Nagpur, and Mira-Bhayandar.

Opportune moment for Delhi's development as BJP ruling all states surrounding it: PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said that it was a golden and opportune moment for the national capital to ride the ladder of growth because the environment and ruling dispensation are rightly aligned and focused on one goal. PM Modi said that it may be a rare coincidence that all the states surrounding Delhi, including Haryana, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh, currently have BJP governments, and this alignment throws an opportune moment to unlock the potential for the national capital's exponential and multi-faceted growth. He also mentioned an instance of "poisoning Delhi" controversy during the previous AAP dispensation, in the run-up to Assembly elections, and lamented that it tried to invoke differences between residents of two states rather than building congruity and harmony. Prime Minister Modi made the remarks while addressing a public gathering after inaugurating two major National Highway projects in the capital worth nearly Rs 11,000 crore, namely the Delhi sections of the Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II) and Dwarka Expressway. Outlining "good governance" as the hallmark of BJP governments across the country, he said that the new government, under Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, will follow this principle and ensure that Delhi moves steadily and firmly on the growth path. Prime Minister Modi also lauded the Rekha Gupta administration for taking urgent steps towards the redressal of public issues and speeding up the Yamuna cleaning, a promise that helped the BJP ride to power in the capital. "I am told that 16 lakh metric tonne of silt has been removed, so far," PM Modi told the gathering. About the electric buses joining the public transport fleet in the capital, PM Modi said, "Till now, 650 Devi electric buses have been rolled out on Delhi roads and soon, it will cross the 2000 mark." "This is an endeavour towards clean and green Delhi. Earlier, the city suffered deeply because of inefficiency and incapability of the past governments, but our government is committed to its welfare," he added. Notably, the two highway projects unveiled by the Prime Minister will mark a big connectivity leap for the national capital and go a long way in decongesting the capital, reducing travel time and traffic snarls in the capital and surrounding areas.

Punjab sees steepest decline in PM-Kisan beneficiaries with 49 per cent drop in five years

CHANDIGARH: Punjab has recorded the steepest fall in the country in the number of beneficiaries under the PM-Kisan scheme, with figures dropping by nearly 49 per cent over the past five years. Beneficiaries fell from 23.01 lakh between December 2019 and March 2020, the highest-ever recorded in the state when farmers received Rs 466.47 crore, to just 11.34 lakh between April and July 2025, who received Rs 387.76 crore. Recently, in reply to an unstarred question raised by Congress MP from Ludhiana, Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, Union Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare Ram Nath Thakur stated that in the financial year 2025-26, Rs 63,500 crore had been allocated for the PM-Kisan scheme. 'The 20th instalment of the PM-Kisan scheme was released on August 2, 2025 and more than 9.71 crore beneficiaries received benefits amounting to more than Rs 20,500 crore. Out of this, more than 11.34 lakh beneficiaries from Punjab received the benefit amounting to Rs 387.76 crore,' the reply stated. It added that a farmer-centric digital infrastructure has ensured the benefits of the scheme reach all farmers across the country without the involvement of intermediaries. 'Maintaining absolute transparency in registering and verifying beneficiaries, the Government of India has disbursed over Rs 3.90 lakh crore through 20 instalments since the inception of the scheme,' it noted.
