Govt Launches Portal To Promote Electric Car Manufacturing, Open Till Oct 21
New Delhi: In a bid to boost the domestic manufacturing of electric vehicles (EVs), the government on Tuesday announced the launch of a portal for the application process under the Scheme to Promote Manufacturing of Electric Passenger Cars in India (SPMEPCI).
Union Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy said that guided by the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, this initiative marks a defining moment in India's journey towards clean, self-reliant, and future-ready mobility.
"The launch of this portal under the SPMEPCI scheme opens new avenues for global electric vehicle manufacturers to invest in India's rapidly evolving automotive landscape. This scheme not only supports our national commitment to achieving Net Zero by 2070, but also reinforces our resolve to build a sustainable, innovation-driven economy," said the minister.
Applications are invited from eligible applicants under the scheme and applicants can apply through the application module at spmepci.heavyindustries.gov.in. The application portal will be open for applications from June 24 to October 21.
The government of India has approved a forward-looking scheme to promote the domestic manufacture of passenger cars, with a special focus on electric vehicles (EVs). It is designed to firmly establish India as a premier global destination for automotive manufacturing and innovation.
The scheme will help to attract investments from global EV manufacturers and promote India as a manufacturing destination for e-vehicles. The scheme will also help put India on the global map for manufacturing of EVs, generate employment and achieve the goal of "Make in India".
To encourage the global manufacturers to invest under the Scheme, the approved applicants will be allowed to import Completely Built-in Units (CBUs) of e-4W with a minimum CIF value of $35,000 at reduced customs duty of 15 per cent for a period of 5 years from the application approval date.
Approved applicants would be required to make a minimum investment of Rs 4,150 crore in line with the provisions of the scheme. The scheme is strategically crafted to position India as a global hub for electric vehicle manufacturing.
Through calibrated customs duty concessions and clearly defined domestic value addition (DVA) milestones, the scheme strikes a balance between introducing cutting-edge EV technologies and nurturing indigenous capabilities.

Furthermore, the annual allowance for the purchase of educational materials has also been significantly increased, a step that is expected to enhance access to quality education for thousands of tribal students across Maharashtra. The cabinet also granted revised administrative approval for the Koyna Dam Base Hydroelectric Project, one of the state's key renewable energy initiatives. In a move aimed at simplifying the tax regime, the government will introduce a new Maharashtra Goods and Services Tax Bill in the upcoming legislative session. Amendments to facilitate the settlement of pending taxes, interest, penalties, and late fees for public sector undertakings will also be introduced. Other notable decisions include a waiver of Rs 31.75 crore in resettlement fees for people displaced from land reserved for the High Court complex at Bandra East. These premises will now be transferred to the public works department free of cost. The government also approved the use of 7,000 sq m of cemetery land in Mouje Chikhali, Pimpri-Chinchwad, for a sewage treatment plant. 3.3 lakh kg of mangoes worth Rs 4 crore sold during kesar mango festival at Ahmedabad Haat
Gandhinagar: The state govt said that 3.30 lakh kilogrammes of mangoes worth over Rs 4 crore were sold at the month-long Kesar Mango Festival 2025, which was held at the Ahmedabad Haat in the Vastrapur area of the city. Eighty-five mango farmers from across the state put up stalls at the mango festival, which was organised by the Gujarat Agro Industries Corporation. An official statement said that the state govt has been organising the Kesar Mango Festival since 2007 to ensure citizens get chemical-free mangoes and farmers get fair prices for their produce. This year's festival was organised for a month beginning May 16. State agriculture minister Raghavji Patel said that this year, farmers sold over 3.30 lakh kilogrammes of mangoes, earning an income of about Rs 4 crore. In the last festival organised in 2023, 2.70 lakh kg of mangoes were sold, he added. Opposition in Ahmedabad civic body slams new proposals to lay white-topped roads
Ahmedabad: The road and building committee of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation will present three proposals to lay white-topped roads in various areas of the city, including Nava Vadaj, Chandkheda, Sabarmati, Vasna, and Navrangpura, on Wednesday. However, the opposition has raised objections to these proposals, two of which are single tenders. There is opposition to awarding all three projects to a single company and paying Rs 37.62 crore more than the estimated cost. Shehzad Khan Pathan, the leader of the opposition in the AMC, said, "Three separate proposals for white topping the roads in city's western areas is on the meeting agenda. One proposal suggests awarding all three projects to a single company at 26% to 31.50% rates higher than the estimated cost. The estimated cost for these three projects was set at Rs 129.86 crore, but it was decided to award them at Rs 167.48 crore — an increase of Rs 37.62 crore. We demand that these proposals be cancelled and re-tendered. In the past 10 years, AMC has not constructed a single quality road in the city. Roads get damaged during monsoon, causing inconvenience to citizens."
