Honor Magic V Flip2's launch date, design, and colors officially revealed
The Honor Magic V Flip2, which we've been hearing about for some time now, will be unveiled on August 21. This revelation comes from Honor, who said the foldable will be introduced next Thursday in China at 7:30 PM local time.
In addition to revealing the Magic V Flip2's launch date, Honor also revealed the smartphone's design and colors. It will have four colorways, including a special edition designed by Prof. Jimmy Choo.

Like the Honor Magic V Flip, the Magic V Flip2 has an LED flash on its back panel and sports two cameras near the cover display. But this time, the size of the camera modules is the same.

iPhone 17 Air makes the Galaxy S25 Edge look like a normal, boring phone, but is it actually any good?
The race for the slimmest flagship smartphone is now on, and it seems like Apple will be taking the lead with the iPhone 17 Air, at least when it comes to thickness. A physical comparison between the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge and a dummy unit of the iPhone 17 Air shows a clear winner: Apple's phone is much slimmer. Of course, the iPhone 17 Air will come with its own problems, the biggest one being its battery capacity. It is all but confirmed that the Air will have a battery capacity of a measly 2,900 mAh, which pales in comparison to the 3,900 mAh found on the Galaxy S25 Edge . Apple is reportedly hoping for the AI-powered battery management on iOS 26 to do the heavy lifting here, and make the iPhone 17 Air last a reasonable amount of time. Meanwhile, our Galaxy S25 Edge battery test showed that Samsung's phone lasted way longer than expected. With the Galaxy S26 Edge reportedly getting a 4,300 mAh battery early next year, a phone just as slim and with a much larger battery will be available not long after the release of the iPhone 17 Air .But these phones aren't really being marketed to power users: we've got the thicker iPhone 17 Pro Max with its bigger battery for that purpose. No, these phones are for people who prefer form over function, and the iPhone 17 Air beats the Galaxy S25 Edge quite handily in that respect. While the Galaxy S25 Edge is 5.8 mm thick, the iPhone 17 Air is expected to be 5.5 mm instead, which is what the dummy units are modeled after. But is the iPhone 17 Air actually worth getting this year? Unless you're strictly an iPhone user, I'd say not really. According to reports, next year's Galaxy S26 Edge will be 5.5 mm thick as well, so just as thin as the Air but with a much larger battery. If I was choosing between the two, I'd honestly wait for Samsung's phone. However, that is a trap some consumers fall into: always waiting for the next best thing. Yes, the iPhone 17 Air makes the S25 Edge look pretty thick — despite such a marginal difference — and if you don't want to wait for it, I'd say have at it.

The murmurings of a potential delay for Google's upcoming Pixel 10 Pro Fold have been met with a surprising level of disappointment from the tech community. While no delay is ever ideal, the collective sigh of impatience suggests that Google has finally hit a sweet spot with its foldable lineup. The very idea that waiting a little longer for this device is a source of frustration is a strong indicator that Google is, indeed, doing something right in a market that is only getting more competitive. This later release date, if it holds true, puts Google at a strategic disadvantage, especially with Samsung's recently launched and already popular Galaxy Z Fold 7 making waves. The foldable market is no longer a novelty but a fierce battleground for innovation, and timing is everything. A two month head start for Samsung is a significant challenge for Google to overcome. The anticipation for the Pixel 10 Pro Fold is not without merit. Leaks and rumors paint a picture of a device that looks just about the same as its predecessor, but still packing some notable upgrades. The new foldable is expected to feature a larger 6.4 inch external display, offering a more traditional smartphone experience when closed. Internally, the device is said to be powered by Google's new Tensor G5 chip. While not considered a huge leap by some, this is actually a crucial development, as the G5 is rumored to be a fully custom design manufactured by TSMC on a 3nm process. Samsung is also leaning heavily into artificial intelligence, with a suite of features optimized for the larger foldable screen. From a hardware perspective, the Z Fold 7 is a tour de force. Google's Pixel 10 Pro Fold will need to deliver on all its promises to compete effectively. The broader foldable market is at an interesting inflection point. While still a niche segment, it's a high growth, high margin area that is attracting more and more consumers. However, barriers to adoption remain. High prices and concerns about durability are the two main reasons why many people are still hesitant to switch to a foldable device. If Google can capitalize on this anticipation and deliver a device that lives up to the hype, the Pixel 10 Pro Fold could be a turning point for the company in the foldable space. The wait until October may be a little longer than we'd like, but if it results in a more polished and reliable product, it will be well worth it. Google teases Pixel 10 AI features in video
I'm sure that I don't have to tell you how important two letters are to smartphone manufacturers these days. The letters, "A" and "I" (which you'll note I presented to you in alphabetical order), mean so much to smartphone buyers when done correctly. Google and Samsung haven't written AI checks that their phones couldn't cash. That is what Apple did with the hugely disappointing Apple Intelligence AI initiative. Where Apple went wrong is exactly where Google went right. Apple made promises about Siri's AI capabilities at WWDC 2024, showing examples of how the digital assistant would look through your email, texts, calendar, and other apps to tell you what time your mom was supposed to land at the airport, and what time and where dinner reservations were made. Apple even went to the expense of shooting an ad showing how this "Personal" Siri would come to the rescue of a teen iPhone user who couldn't remember the name of the guy she had just met and had an interest in. For those of you who have used Google's Gemini app, OpenAI's ChatGPT, or any of the AI chatbox apps, it is so clear that they are the future of the digital assistant. Google has a head start as it is replacing Google Assistant with Gemini. I've been using Gemini as the assistant on my Pixel 6 Pro, and I love it. It answers my queries with responses that allow you to take a deeper dive if you wish to. AI is much more than a chatbox looking to answer your questions. I really wouldn't say that Google, Samsung, or Apple have done a good job to promote these other capabilities. Google, however, has released a teaser revealing some of the AI features already available on Pixel phones that will still be available for the Pixel 10 series. I guess that really doesn't make it much of a teaser. It starts with a question that makes you think: "What if your phone could do things other phones couldn't?" For example, "What if the camera could get super, super, super close while being really, really, really far?" This refers to Super Res Zoom, which is a feature that uses computational photography and AI to enhance and add detail to zoomed-in photos of people or animals physically far away, making it appear as though you were right in front of them. This would be a great AI feature for those watching performers on a stage, while sitting in the cheap seats. The next question, "What if you could be in the group photo even if you snapped the group photo?" is about the feature "Add Me." Let's say you want to take a group photo and add yourself to the photograph later. With "Add Me," you take the shot of the group, making sure to leave room for yourself. Someone else takes a second photo of just you. AI seamlessly merges the two photos together, making it appear as though you were in the original shot to begin with even though you took the picture. Google then says, "While you used to be on the other side of the camera, now the camera is on your side." The teaser ends with this deep thought, "What if you asked more of your phone and your phone answered?" We should learn more about the AI capabilities of the Pixel 10 series this coming Wednesday, August 20, when the "Made by Google" event takes place and the Pixel 10 line is unveiled. Besides the phones, we should see the Pixel Watch 4 introduced along with the more affordable Pixel Buds 2a.
