The makers of Malayalam film Janaki vs State of Kerala have moved Kerala High Court to oppose the demand of Central Board of Film Certification to change the name of the film as it is the name of Goddess Sita and the titular character is a rape survivor. Directed by Pravin Narayanan, the film stars Suresh Gopi and Anupama Parameswaran. Director Pravin Narayanan talks about CBFC's demand to change the film's title.
Pravin feels that CBFC should look at the film from a different perspective.
'We accept that Janaki is also another name for goddess Sita, but it's such a common name used in many parts of the country. through our movie we never tried to defame Goddess Sita or any other belief system reluctant in our country.'

He adds, 'Maybe CBFC could have had a different perspective for the name of character. We are on the final stage of production and to rename the character at this stage is difficult for us.'
CBFC is also facing opposition from film body Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMAA)
Joy Mathew, Member Ad hoc committee, AMMA, says, 'What a Joke! Most of the people, films in our country and even the government give name from our itihas and traditions. Then why should CBFC say this? They always want to change most of the dialogues mentioning Janaki. It looks like matter of ego, otherwise there is no reason for them to do it because most of the films carry names like Sita, Ram, Mohammad, George and so on.'
Adding to this Pravin asserts, 'Janaki's name is used throughout the movie and in dialogues spoken by many leading actors in the movie and her name is shown multiple times in the visuals.'
The High Court's decision on the film is expected soon and the makers are hoping for a positive reply

Metro In Dino Box Office Preview: Anurag Basu directorial run time, screen count, advance booking, & opening day

After Barfi and Jagga Jasoos, director Anurag Basu is back on the big screen with Metro In Dino, which is a spiritual sequel to Life In A Metro. The film is an anthology with a strong ensemble Anupam Kher, Neena Gupta, Konkona Sen Sharma, Pankaj Tripathi, Aditya Roy Kapur, Sara Ali Khan, Ali Fazal, Fatima Sana Shaikh, and Saswata Chatterjee. The film has been certified U/A by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) with an approved run time of 2 hours and 42 minutes. Metro In Dino is seeing an All-India release by Anil Thadani, who is set to bring the film on about 2000 screens, with showcasing largely catering to the multiplexes in urban belts. The Anurag Basu directorial has secured better/similar showcasing than a giant like Jurassic World in national chains like PVRInox, & Cinepolis, which is a big win from distribution point of view for the feature film. However, despite higher showcasing in the chains, the pre-sales are not up-to the mark. A tighter release would have been better approach for a film of this genre, as it looks like an urban film catering to the elite audience. As on Thursday at 6 PM, Metro In Dino has sold 9500 tickets in the top three national chains – PVRInox and Cinepolis. The film will be looking to close with pre-sales around the 16,500 to 17,500 ticket mark, which is not so good for a film made on this budget. The first day of the Anurag Basu directorial is expected to be in the range of Rs 3.75 crore to Rs 4.25 crore, and the hope is on the word of mouth to kick in from there, and lead to bigger spikes in business on Saturday and Sunday. The film should be hoping to double up on Saturday, stabilize on Sunday, followed by a Monday similar to Friday to have a shot at emerging a success story. Metro In Dino would have opened better by at-least 25 to 30 percent if the music landed as well as the first part, but apart from Zamana Lage, nothing has really hit the bullseye so far.

Jurassic World: Rebirth Box Office Preview: Scarlett Johansson starrer run time, screen count, advance booking & opening day

The dinosaurs are back to rule the big screen with Jurassic World: Rebirth. The film features Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali and Jonathan Bailey in lead roles, and is the fourth part of the Jurassic World franchise. The science fiction action thriller is all set to release in India on July 4, and has been certified U/A by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) with an approved run time of 2 hours and 13 minutes. Jurassic is a popular franchise in India, and among the first from the West to break-out over here, with a strong reach in the mass belts too. The film is looking at a wide release on about 2500 screens nationwide, though the showcasing is hampered due to competition from films like Metro: Inn Dino as also holdovers like Sitaare Zameen Par, Maa, and F1. There are centers in Mumbai, Delhi, and Kolkata where the film has got lower shows than Metro: Inn Dino, which is surprising, as the pre-sales of the Anurag Basu directorial are nowhere close to the Dinosaur saga. The showcasing dispute resulted in the advances to kick-off late on Wednesday night, but the film is showing good momentum in the pre-sales ever since the tickets went live on the counters. As on Thursday at 6 PM, Jurassic World: Rebirth has sold 35,000 tickets in the top 3 national chains – PVRInox and Cinepolis – and the film will be looking to close its pre-sales around the 50,000 mark. The advances would have been much higher with a usual advance booking cycle, and the delay has significantly impacted the sales. A lot for Jurassic World: Rebirth depends on the spot bookings through the day, and being a franchise that caters to the masses, it is expected to make up for the shortfall in pre-sales. Jurassic World: Rebirth should be targeting first-day business in the range of Rs 8.50 crore to Rs 9.50 crore, with an outside chance of hitting the Rs 10 crore mark depending on the spot bookings. With right showcasing and advance cycle, a Rs 10 crore start was a no-brainer for a franchise like Jurassic World, but now a lot is left on the ticket sales at counter. None-the-less, a good opening is on-cards for the Scarlett Johansson starrer, and the film should see good spikes over the weekend to pack a solid punch. After Final Destination: Bloodlines, Mission Impossible 8, and F1, the film is a strong contender for being another success story from Hollywood in India. With a start around the Rs 9 crore mark, the first weekend of Jurassic World: Rebirth could hit the Rs 40 crore mark, as a rise in showcasing in key urban markets is expected on Saturday and Sunday. Netizens troll 'Adipurush' makers for dropping a song from the Prabhas starrer as first look of Ranbir Kapoor starrer 'Ramayana' first glimpse is out: 'Why do they want to remind people?'

The long-awaited first look at , starring , , and Sai Pallavi, was finally released today (July 3), and fans can't stop talking about it. Social media is buzzing with excitement over the film's stunning visuals, top-tier casting, and the grand scale of the teaser. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now But something else also caught everyone's attention. Soon after Ramayana's teaser dropped, T-Series, the production house behind 'Adipurush', re-uploaded the Jai Shri Ram song from their 2023 film on YouTube. This move sparked criticism online, with many questioning the timing. Some fans felt that T-Series was trying to ride the wave of attention Ramayana was getting, especially since Adipurush—also based on the Ramayana—faced major backlash when it was released. On Reddit, one user wrote, 'I've got to give it to Bhushan for milking every opportunity to get some money back on his investment in Adipurush.' Another said, 'The timing is unreal—just as the Ramayana teaser released. Pre-planned?' Many felt it looked like a reaction driven by jealousy. One comment read, 'Why do they want to remind people of this again?' For those not in the know, 'Adipurush' got a lot of flak for its content, dialogues and not doing justice to 'Ramayana'. Not to mention, the poor VFX of the film also wasn't hard to miss. The film starred as Lord Rama, Kriti Sanon as Sita, and Saif Ali Khan as Ravana. As per reports, it was mounted on a huge budget of Rs 550 crore and suffered a huge loss. . Naturally, comparisons between the two films started pouring in. Viewers praised the teaser of Nitesh Tiwari's Ramayana, calling it 'better than the entirety of Adipurush.' Many admired the 'Hollywood-level VFX' and even joked that 'Adipurush' director Om Raut should take notes. On the other hand, Ramayana, directed by Nitesh Tiwari and produced by Namit Malhotra, looks to be on a completely different level. With Ranbir as Lord Rama, Yash as Ravana, Sai Pallavi as Sita, Ravie Dubey as Lakshman, and Sunny Deol as Hanuman, the film also boasts music by Oscar-winner Hans Zimmer and AR Rahman. The teaser alone has raised expectations sky-high. The film will release in two parts—Part 1 in Diwali 2026, and Part 2 in Diwali 2027.
