Rolex 24 class winner changed because of postrace penalty
During an 'extended postrace technical inspection,' the No. 8 Tower Motorsports ORECA LMP2 was moved from first to last in the LMP2 category because IMSA said the car 'exceeded the maximum allowable wear to the regulated area of the skid block on the underside of the car.'
IMSA denied a protest of the penalty by the team.
The No. 22 United Autosports ORECA LMP2 07 was awarded the victory in the category after originally being scored in second. Per an IMSA spokesman, the winner's prize money and Rolex watches also will be transferred to the No. 22, which had started from the pole position with a driver lineup of Daniel Goldburg, Paul di Resta, Rasmus Lindh and James Allen.
In the updated results, the No. 8 was scored 12th in LMP2 with all other cars moving up a spot.
It's the second time in three years there has been a significant postrace penalty in the Rolex 24. In 2023, Meyer Shank Racing's No. 60 Acura won the overall but was found to have manipulated tire pressure data. IMSA allowed the team to keep the win but meted out a massive fine and points penalty.

The initial issue for Jackson was Aikman and his company FL101's use of the word 'EIGHT' on a variety of apparel, bags, beer and energy drinks, as the Ravens quarterback reportedly had previously trademarked multiple usages of the number, such as the phrases 'Era 8' and 'You 8 yet?' 'In my view, these 'with prejudice withdrawals' are an acknowledgement that Mr. Jackson's claims were an overreach and should never have been brought in the first place.' Jackson's stance against Aikman isn't his first. His attorney has taken a number of trademark oppositions since November 2023 against various former No. 8 athletes, including Aikman and Dale Earnhardt Jr. Other star No. 8 athletes included the late Kobe Bryant, Cal Ripken Jr. and Steve Young.

Grizzlies' Jaren Jackson Jr. opens up about his switch to No. 8 for next season
After seven seasons playing as No. 13 in Memphis — and winning Defensive Player of the Year, being a two-time All-Star — Jaren Jackson Jr. wanted a change. That's why he is switching to the No. 8 for this season, and he talked to Rohan Nadkarni of NBC News and Mary Omatiga of NBC Sports (the video above) about it. 'It's super personal to me. It's super personal to my family,' Jackson Jr. told NBC News about the switch. 'I'm connected with 8 in a real way. It reaches into the territory of new beginnings. It's infinite. It's just a good place to draw energy from.' Jackson's new number also comes with the new contract he signed this offseason, a five-year, $240 million max contract for a player that is at the heart of everything the Grizzlies do — he was second on the team in scoring at 22.2 points a game and is their defensive anchor. He was an All-Star, made an All-Defense team, and was just a couple of spots out of making All-NBA. Jackson's new number isn't the biggest change in Memphis this season — Desmond Bane left the team for Orlando. That's going to be a blow on the court, where he was a steadying two-way impact player for the Grizzlies. 'I wasn't too much surprised,' Jackson said of Bane's departure. 'I mean, when your brothers leave, you are still going to hurt, just because you're a human being. But at the end of the day, it's a business. And we're grown.' Jackson feels he's grown into the No. 8 and is ready for it.

Spurs' Carter Bryant honors family member with jersey number selection

Bryant wore it in various events before joining the Wildcats, such as the McDonald's All-American Game and the Pangos All-American Camp. He was forced to change it upon joining the Spurs, with it retired to honor Hall of Famer Tony Parker. The 14th pick also wore a few other numbers, though each one was taken on the team. He opted to go with No. 11, which is the same number his uncle wore. "I wanted nine," Bryant said. "Obviously, Tony Parker has nine retired. (De'Aaron) Fox has four. Steph Castle has five. Dylan (Harper) got two. I was a Kawhi fan, so I was trying to get the two. Vic (Wembanyama) got one, so then I went through all of the numbers I liked and which ones looked good. My uncle ended up wearing No. 11 playing pro volleyball overseas, so I went with 11."
