Yep, Doctor Odyssey's Fate Is Still TBD — ABC Boss Explains Hold-Up
When it comes to whether Doctor Odyssey will set sail for a second season, it sounds like all interested parties are waiting on the ABC series' captain.
Season 1 of the seafaring sudser has been averaging 4.8 million total viewers (with delayed playback), right on par with what Grey's Anatomy did in the Thursday hammock spot last year, and ranking No. 5 out of the 7 dramas ABC has aired this TV season.

In the coveted 18-49 demo, Doctor Odyssey does not rank amongst broadcast TV's Top 20 shows.
Ahead of the series' freshman finale (airing this Thursday at 9/8c), TVLine asked Disney Television Group president Craig Erwich where things stand with the network's renewal/cancellation decision, and when fans might expect one.
As seen with the unveiling of ABC's game plan for the 2025-26 TV season, 'Doctor Odyssey is not on our schedule currently,' Erwich said. With an eye on the future, 'We're in talks with [series crearor] Ryan [Murphy], and we really look to him about what the next chapter might be.'
Thing is, the Odyssey is not the only ship in the super-prolific Murphy's fleet.
'Ryan's extremely busy,' Erwich noted, with '9-1-1, [the upcoming spinoff] 9-1-1: Nashville… he's doing All's Fair [for Hulu], I know he's working on a bunch of shows for FX that they're really excited about, too….'

Disney TV Studios Chief Eric Schrier, in a recent interview with our sister site Deadline, similarly indicated that Murphy himself is the best person to offer a prognosis for Doctor Odyssey.
'That decision ultimately lies with Ryan Murphy,' Schrier said, 'whether Ryan wants to continue to do it, and he feels like there's stories to tell that he feels confident in.'Will this Thursday's finale leave viewers satisfied, should it wind up serving as a series finale? That is the buzz, though Erwich would not confirm as much when asked by TVLine.
'The [Season 1] stories we're really satisfying the way that Ryan drew them out,' Erwich said, 'but again, it's not on our schedule right now and we're continuing conversations [with Murphy].'

Trump-backed bill could block Tennessee's AI laws, threaten deepfake protections
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — President Donald Trump's 'big, beautiful bill' could change the way Tennessee regulates artificial intelligence. New language added to the legislation would block states from regulating AI or risk losing federal broadband funding. That means state laws like the Elvis Act, which protects artists from having their voices or images stolen by AI, would be put on pause. 'We are just hoping that we're not taking a couple steps backward since there's no federal regulation currently in place,' Kaley Bonett, a Nashville entertainment lawyer at Hall Booth Smith, said. MAY: House Republicans include a 10-year ban on US states regulating AI in 'big, beautiful' bill 'The songwriters — all — are entitled to revenue generated from the performances and distribution of that particular sound recording of their song, so if there's a deepfake imposing and competing with the authentic, then it's going to affect where the revenue share goes,' a Nashville managing partner and shareholder for Hall Booth Smith, Karl Braun, explained. 'It's going to be very difficult for, let's say, a songwriter to protect themselves legally from this evolving kind of internet Wild, wild west.' 'The big beautiful bill that the president is advancing does not replace those regulations with anything, which is almost unprecedented,' Plaintiffs Attorney at Spragens Law, David Kieley, said. Also at risk is the 'Preventing Deep Fakes Images Act,' which makes it a felony to post fake AI images designed to harm someone's reputation. Nashville-based meteorologist Bree Smith was targeted by AI imagery herself, explaining that someone used AI to take her face and put it on someone else's semi-naked body. '[This bill] just means that we are saying for 10 years we are going to let people potentially be victimized in this way, and that can't happen,' Smith said. 'It's not going to be any more okay for something like that to happen 10 years from now than it is for it to happen today.' 'Even looking prospectively at things we haven't really encountered yet, but this would stop the state from being able to regulate things like driverless cars in your town, driverless 18-wheelers on Tennessee highways,' Kieley added. 'We don't know really how this technology could affect public safety things like 9-1-1, dispatch.' A law signed just last week by Governor Lee banning AI-generated child sexual abuse material could also be blocked. ⏩ 'It would put child sex predators and big tech over the safety of our families,' Sen. Heidi Campbell (D-Nashville) said. 'This is really antithetical to the values that people across the aisle in Tennessee have been communicating with our legislation.' The president's bill passed in the House of Representatives. It's now in the Senate, where supporters hope to finalize it by July. Senator Marsha Blackburn has previously stated that Tennessee needs AI safeguards, saying, 'Until we pass something that is federally preemptive, we can't call for a moratorium on those things.' Fire Country star and co-creator Max Thieriot is frankly worried 'how poorly' Bode will respond if his firefighter father, Vince, winds up dying in the blaze that closed out Season 3. When last we tuned into the Friday-night CBS drama, the scene at Walter's memory care center was mayhem. Racing to the facility after realizing it was in the path of the Zabel Ridge wildfire, Bode and Walter (Jeff Fahey) spent a lot of time hunting for Walter's pal Otto, eventually finding him sheltered in a closet. Étoile Cancelled After One Season at Amazon, Despite Two-Season Order
Étoile is taking its final bow, a little earlier than expected. Amazon's Prime Video has cancelled the Amy Sherman-Palladino ballet comedy after just one season, our sister site Deadline reports, despite Amazon giving the series a two-season order initially. The decision to cancel 'came down largely to performance vs. cost,' Deadline says.
