Staff insisted they could not travel
Joe and Beccy Barnes had booked a last-minute honeymoon to Ayia Napa, Cyprus, after tying the knot on Saturday August 2nd.
The pair, who have been together for five years, had collected all the money given to them as wedding presents to pay for a five-day, all-inclusive TUI package holiday.
However, when the couple arrived at East Midlands Airport on Wednesday [August 6th], they were shocked when TUI check-in staff discovered a 1cm rip on the upper right-hand corner of Joe's photo page in his passport.
TUI said the passport was 'very badly damaged', including suspected water damage, a small tear in the photo page, as well as the cover being ripped and repaired with tape.

The 35-year-old forklift driver said he'd flown with Jet2 on his stag do three weeks before with no issues, but said TUI staff insisted he could not travel.
The dad-of-two and his new wife remained in the airport for two hours trying to come up with a solution before heading home.
'The decision was pathetic'
Joe and Beccy, a 38-year-old civil servant, were 'devastated' after losing out on their £1,200 honeymoon, describing TUI's decision to bar them from the flight as 'pathetic'.
Joe, who lives near Nottingham, Nottinghamshire, said: "The wedding was the best day of my life.

"We just wanted to get away and chill out for a bit so used the cash from all the guests to book the honeymoon.
"We got to the front check-in desk and the woman said you've got a slight rip in your passport page. I need to go talk to my manager.

"She said 'yeah there's a rip in it'. I'd actually flown with Jet2 three weeks before for my stag do and that was absolutely fine.
"I didn't know about the rip until then. There was no compassion at all.

"I told them it was my honeymoon. But TUI headquarters got back to say 'do not let this man travel'.
"I thought this can't be happening. It was horrible. We sat around the airport for a good two hours trying to think of solutions.
"We thought we could catch a flight with a different airline, but Jet2 said they wouldn't let us fly either."
Fundraising for another honeymoon
The couple were left 'devastated' after returning home from the airport, and said they've complained to TUI about the 'pathetic' decision to ban them from flying.

Joe said: "I just couldn't believe it. Me and my Mrs were mortified. I felt like crying my eyes out.
"We'd had an amazing weekend with the wedding and everything just went downhill.
"My wife was absolutely devastated. It was a horrible feeling. I wouldn't want my worst enemy to go through this.
"I think it's pathetic I got denied boarding for that tiny rip. I could understand it if it was a massive rip over my photo or my personal details and you couldn't read them.

"It's looking doubtful that insurance will cover it. It's quite unlikely. We're just going to try and book something later on
."The worst bit is that it's other people's money. I would warn people to get their passport checked, even if there's a slight mark on it."
A spokeswoman for TUI confirmed that Mr Barnes was refused travel by check-in staff at East Midlands Airport due to his passport being 'very badly damaged', including suspected water damage, a small tear in the photo page, as well as the cover being ripped and repaired with tape.
The holiday giant said that staff recommended that Mr Barnes liaised directly with his insurance provider regarding compensation and to contact the passport office to get a replacement.

TUI beats quarterly earnings forecast as new strategy 'paying off'
Europe's largest tour operator TUI has today reported better-than-expected results as summer travel proved more resilient after chief executive Sebastian Ebel previously warned that 2025 could be a "challenging" year for the group. European airlines broadly performed well during the second quarter as concerns about a dip in travel demand appeared to have had a limited impact on results. TUI reported underlying earnings before interest and tax (EBIT) of €321m in its quarter ended June 30, compared with the €269m expected by analysts polled by LSEG, and up 38% on the previous year. Revenue in TUI's third quarter across all segments stood at €6.2 billion, gaining 7%. The group raised its full-year profit guidance yesterday, after strong hotel and cruise demand boosted the business so far this year, sending shares up. "The third quarter and the first nine months of the financial year 2025 were strong. Our strategy is paying off," Ebel said in a statement today. The company acknowledged that the environment for its airlines business remained difficult. In the previous quarter, TUI had flagged a slight drop in summer bookings, amid concerns that inflation and macroeconomic worries could weigh on consumer appetite for travel. While there was a 2% decline in summer bookings tied to the Middle East conflict, ticket prices were up 3%, helping to balance out higher costs, according to a media presentation. European travellers, making up the core base of TUI's customers, tend to be more price-sensitive than North American travellers. German bookings were also down 5% due to hot weather, Ebel told reporters on a media call, but added that he expected more customers in the autumn.

More than 150,000 vehicles per day are reported to rely on the Dartford Crossing. It has been considered a vital cross that enables vehicles to commute or carry freight between the south-east and the rest of the country. It is the only way to cross the Thames river by road east of London, and links the counties of Essex and Kent. This is via the QEII bridge for southbound traffic, and two 1.4km-long tunnels for travellers going northbound. The closures will only occur overnight across the week, where driver's may be hit by disruptions. Diversions via the National Highways' network and local routes will be clearly signposted during this time. The QEII bridge will be fully closed from Saturday, August 16 to Sunday, August 17, between 10pm to 5am. The diversion route will be through the an installed contraflow through the Dartford east tunnel from 9:30pm on Saturday night. It involved the M20 motorway which was closed between Maidstone and Ashford overnight ahead of the spring bank holiday weekend for Operation Brock. The Dartford Crossing is also set to become more expensive next month. The cost of using it is expected to jump from £2.50 to £3.50 in September. This will mark the first price increase for the crossing since 2014. Transport Secretary, Lilian Greenwood, explained the toll increase was necessary in order to manage the almost 200,000 vehicles that use it everyday. Analysts have suggested that these increased charges could be used to fund the upcoming Lower Thames Crossing mega project. The project is set to ease congestion, and provide an alternative route for vehicles between Essex and Kent.

Nepo-baby model spotted patiently queueing for Jet2 flight despite family's huge wealth – would you have spotted him?
The getaway comes amid the star's fallout with his brother STAR BOY Nepo-baby model spotted patiently queueing for Jet2 flight despite family's huge wealth – would you have spotted him? THIS nepo-baby model was spotted queuing for a Jet2 flight - despite their family's huge wealth. The 22-year-old appeared to keep a low profile dressed in a black hooded jumper and a pair of matching jogging trousers. 6 This nepo-baby with millionaire parents were seen getting a Jet2 flight Credit: TikTok/@zmj703 6 Can you work out who this famous celebrity is? Credit: TikTok/@zmj703 The famous star was seen looking down at his phone while standing between the barriers while queuing. This lad has an A-lister family with millions in the bank - but decided to fly with budget airline Jet2. The celebrity was then seen patiently waiting in the queue, before a fan snapped a picture of him sitting quietly on board the plane. The star had a black beanie hat over his head and his headphones in his ears. He was seen sitting in the window seat and glancing at his phone. But have you worked out who he is yet? It's none other than Victoria and David Beckham's son Romeo. 6 It's none other than Victoria and David Beckham's son Romeo Credit: INSTAGRAM/VICTORIA BECKHAM 6 The family are known for their lavish holidays around the world Credit: instagram 6 Romeo appeared to keep a low profile on the flight Credit: TikTok/@zmj703 A fan shared a video of Romeo at Birmingham Airport yesterday and said the star was on their flight to France. The TikTok video showed the model looking miles away as he waited to board. Many were quick to comment on the post, with one saying Romeo's designer luggage was a dead giveaway of who he was. One wrote: "Blending in with thousands and thousands of pounds worth of bags." A second said: "Just shows he's normal like the rest of us..." Romeo's getaway comes after his brother Brooklyn's vow renewal with wife Nicola Peltz. A source close to the Beckham family branded "a gratuitous display of obscene wealth". None of the Beckhams were invited to the lavish ceremony on August 2 — presided over by Nicola's billionaire dad Nelson — and only read about it on an American website. Now a source close to the Beckhams says the family has questioned Brooklyn's need to renew his vows after just three years. One friend said: 'They would understand if it was, say, 10 years down the line - maybe even five. But three?! It seems like quite a gratuitous display of obscene wealth. "Also, if Brooklyn wanted to create a really cute memory, why couldn't he have just let his family know their plans first? 'To be honest, although there have been moments of rapprochement, this hostility dates back to 2021, around six months before the original wedding. "The dynamics have just never really gelled. 'Of course David and Victoria want Brooklyn to be happy and clearly he is wildly in love still, but a lot of people have been hurt. "It is a very sad situation and everyone fears there is no way back now. It is done.' FAMILY FALLOUT It was also revealed that even Brooklyn's grandparents were excluded from the special day - despite their close relationship. Yesterday a source said: 'This was the final kick in the teeth for David and Victoria. 'Seeing Nelson having such a pivotal role at the ceremony was heartbreaking for David especially. "Not one member of the 30-plus extended family knew about the wedding, or were invited. 'His grandparents are devastated too as Brooklyn has always been so close to them. 'It feels cruel and spiteful. This is no longer a game. It has gone beyond all that. 'This is a family who feel they have lost their precious boy - and see no way back. "Honestly, they are now questioning why he even wants to keep the 'Beckham' surname - will he revert to Peltz? August 2nd 2025 - is this the day Brooklyn formally declared himself no longer a part of the Beckham family? 'It certainly feels like it.' In the photos shared by the couple on Instagram, they are surrounded by Nicola's family and friends. The actress looked stunning in a repurposed dress which her mum Claudia wore when she married tycoon Nelson in 1985. She also sported the same original £1.3million ring. Brooklyn's original wedding with Nicola took place on Nelson's estate in Palm Beach, Florida, with Brooklyn's sister Harper among the bridesmaids. This time the couple chose Nelson's Westchester estate in New York as the backdrop. Alongside the images, the couple wrote: 'only love.' They also posted a video of their very casual proposal on TikTok alongside a song by Ysabelle Cuevas with the words: 'Lost in your eyes.' Brooklyn, who wore a suit with no tie, called the ceremony a 'really beautiful experience' which was all about creating a 'really cute memory' they would treasure forever. There had been a lot of tension before the original wedding. The Beckhams claim Nicola was a 'bridezilla' and hard work, while the Peltzes say their in-laws are 'tight'. Nicola also revealed Victoria reneged on a pledge to design her dress, infuriating the former Spice Girl. There were also claims Victoria hijacked the first dance. Earlier this year Brooklyn and Nicola were absent from the ex-Man United star's 50th birthday celebrations.
