Alicia Silverstone teases Clueless TV show will 'honour' original movie

Alicia Silverstone has vowed to "honour" the original Clueless in the upcoming follow-up TV show. The 48-year-old actress shot to fame playing pampered teenager Cher Horowitz in the 1995 movie and she revealed in April she'd be reprising the role for Peacock's upcoming programme, and while she admitted there is "not much" she can discuss about it, she promised it will bring "something fresh and new" to the characters while staying true to the original premise. Speaking on TODAY, she said: 'I'm really excited about it. I think we're going to try really hard. The goal is to make it honour what everyone loves about Clueless and Cher. 'So we want to honor that, but also bring something fresh and new to it. I'm confident that we'll be able to do that, but we're in baby stages right now.' Alicia previously admitted it was playing Cher again in Rakuten's 2023 Super Bowl commercial that made her particularly keen to return to the role. Asked if she thought she'd ever revisit her character, she told People magazine: "I didn't. And then I did it for the Super Bowl, yeah, and it was so much fun. We did it really at the Super Bowl." The Baby-Sitters Club actress recalled her and ex-husband Christopher Jarecki's son Bear, now 14, first saw the movie when he was just five years old - and although the youngster "didn't know what was going on", the movie compelled him to kiss his mom more. She recalled: "I remember when my son was five, when he first saw it. "And the only reason I would allow that, because I don't think it's appropriate for five year olds, is because it was on that big screen that we saw it at the cemetery. He didn't know what was going on. 'The only thing he took away was the kiss at the end. He started kissing me more. It was so sweet. 'And I think he liked it. And then he's liked it all along. I think he really likes this film.' There was a previous attempt to bring Clueless back as a TV show for Peacock back in 2020, but that project never went forward. A previous TV show version of the story launched back in the 1990s, with Rachel Blanchard playing Cher for three seasons between 1996 and 1999. Alicia previously revived Cher back in 2021 when she recreated a scene from the film with her son Bear for a video posted on TikTok. She later enlisted her former co-star Stacey Dash - who played Cher's best friend Dionne - to film another recreated scene for the social media site before sharing a Cher montage last year to mark 27 years since 'Clueless' hit cinemas. Alicia captioned the clip: "27 years ago, a bad b**** was born ... Happy anniversary, Cher! #Clueless #AsIf #90s."

Jennifer Lopez denied entry to Chanel store

Jennifer Lopez was denied entry to a Chanel store. The Jenny from the Block hitmaker was in Turkey this week for a performance at Yenikapi Festival Park during the Istanbul Festival and on Monday (04.08.25), she went on a shopping trip in the city, only to be told she couldn't enter the French fashion boutique. According to Turkiye Today, a security guard prevented Jennifer from entering the shore because it was at full capacity, but she took the news in her stride. Before walking away, she replied: "Okay, no problem." Although the 56-year-old star was invited back by the staff at the Chanel store, she visited other high-end retailers instead, heading into both Celine and Beymen. She is said to have spent around three hours at the store, spending tens of thousands of dollars. Last month, Jennifer suffered an embarrassing wardrobe malfunction on stage when her skirt fell off. The Hustlers star had taken her Up All Night: Live tour to the PGE Narodowy stadium in Warsaw, Poland on 25 July and had stepped out wearing a gold bikini top and matching skirt. But as her crew sang Happy Birthday to her in honour of her turning 56 the day before, she was left red-faced when the garment pinged off as she walked across the stage. After the skirt fell to the floor, Jennifer did a twirl to show off her gold underpants before saying: "I'm out here in my underwear ... That's gonna be everywhere." One of her backing dancers tried to help reattach the skirt as Happy Birthday continued but the star just laughed and then threw the garment out into the audience, saying: "I'm glad that they reinforced that costume. And I'm glad I had underwear on. I don't usually wear underwear ... "Guys I gotta tell you ... Yes you can keep it (the skirt) I don't want it back. I don't want it back you can have it forever and ever." Jennifer then added: "I am so thankful to be here in beautiful Warsaw on my birthday. "I gotta tell you, surrounded by my incredible dancers, my band, my crew, everybody - I am so blessed. "I don't usually give any advice to anybody because I feel like we're all on our own specific journey … If I had one little piece of advice for you, it would be to do what you love, find what you love, do it, and do it with people that you love, and then you will have the most amazing life. I can say that firsthand. "I also want to say that I believe that the amount of happiness that you have in your heart is, is tied directly to how free you feel, and I wish you guys all the same happiness and freedom and the way you made me feel tonight … "I want you to be feel free to love, free to be who you are, free to just follow your dreams and do all the things that you want to do. I just want you to feel free."

Busta Rhymes slams former assistant over lawsuit

Busta Rhymes has accused his former assistant of trying to "damage [his] reputation". The 53-year-old rapper is being sued by Dashiel Gables for wage and hour violations, assault, battery, and intentional infliction of emotional distress, but he has insisted the allegations made by his ex-employee - who he noted worked with him for "a very brief period" - are "categorically" untrue and he is planning to launch a counter-suit. He told People magazine in a statement: 'I completely and categorically deny these allegations. 'Apparently, Dashiel has decided to respond to being let go by manufacturing claims against me in an attempt to attack and damage my reputation. "I look forward to proving these allegations false." Busta - whose real name is Trevor Smith Jr. - believes his next steps "will expose this for what it is - an attempted shake-down by a disgruntled former assistant." He added: Ultimately, I am certain the truth will prevail.' Dashiel, who also goes by the name Divine, filed his civil complaint on 4 August and he is seeking a trial by jury on all triable issues. He claimed he and Busta had got into an argument in January this year because when he was trying to contact his daughter, the rapper screamed at him to "stay the f*** off your phone" before allegedly punching him in the face twice. Dashiel went to the hospital with a swollen eye and filed a police report, and Busta turned himself in to authorities, where he faced three assault charges, before allegedly firing his assistant which 'effectively blacklisted [him] from employment opportunities in his chosen field [in the music industry].' The ex-employee claimed he was regularly verbally abused, with the Woo-Hah!! Got You All in Check hitmaker allegedly "routinely degrading and screaming" at him with "unreasonable and demeaning demands". He also accused his former boss of calling him a homophobic slur, ridiculing his poor hearing and threatening to "bloody [his] face' and 'get 'street justice.' ' T Dashiel accused Busta of having spat in employees' faces, smacked them on the back of the head and grabbed their clothes. When it comes to his pay, Dashiel alleged his then-boss failed 'to provide proper wage notices and wage statements,' including a violation of the Fair Labor Standards Act, New York Labor Law Wage Notice and Wage Statement Violations, and failure to pay spread of hours pay (New York Labor Law). He is seeking compensatory damages for past lost wages and benefits, for unpaid minimum wages and overtime, for future wages lost due to being blacklisted by the industry, and other wage and hour violations, as well as liquidated damages as provided by FLSA and New York Labor Law.
