Vaughan homeowner fires gun to thwart auto theft, charged along with 4 suspects
Police say as many as six suspects are in custody following a number of break-and-enters in Vaughan on June 12, 2025.
Police say a Vaughan homeowner who fired a gun to stop an auto theft that was taking place Thursday morning has been charged along with four suspects.
York Regional Police previously told CP24 that a group of suspects was allegedly trying to break into homes and steal vehicles northwest of Major MacKenzie Drive and Highway 400 at approximately 4 a.m. before they were 'interrupted' by a homeowner.
In an update, police said the homeowner discharged a firearm in the course of an attempted vehicle theft.
No injuries were reported.
'He has been charged, as well as the four suspects we arrested – three adults and one youth,' a police spokesperson said.
Nothing was stolen over the course of the alleged break-and-enter or auto theft attempts.
Police have not identified the homeowner or the suspects and it's not clear which charges either party is facing.
Police said there is no threat to public safety.

Police in Prince Edward Island are asking for the public's help identifying two men involved in separate incidents of indecent acts that were reported in Queens County. RCMP officers responded to the first report on June 4 inside P.E.I. National Park in Cavendish. According to a news release, a cyclist reported seeing a man committing an indecent act inside a white, family-style van parked along the Gulf Shore Parkway at around 3 p.m. The vehicle's side door was open when the incident occurred. The man in this case was described as heavier set, with a reddish-grey beard and wearing a blue shirt. North Rustico incident A week later, on June 11, a man was seen committing an indecent act near a trail behind several homes on Autumn Lane in North Rustico between noon and 12:20 p.m., police said in the release. A witness told police the man was on the back side of a neighbouring property next to the trail. The suspect is described as thin, about 172 cm tall, and wearing a blue shirt, dark hat and light blue beach shorts. Police do not believe he is the same person involved in the Cavendish incident. Queens District RCMP is asking anyone who recognizes the individuals or has information about either incident to contact them at 902-368-9300. Tips can also be submitted anonymously through P.E.I. Man shot with pellet gun during North End home invasion: police

The incident happened around 8 a.m. on Wednesday when the suspect, accompanied by another person, went to a home in the 300 block of Church Avenue and started banging on the door. According to the Winnipeg Police Service, a 53-year-old man answered the door, and an argument ensued. Police allege the suspect then forced his way into the home and fired his pellet gun at the 53-year-old man. The suspect then fled the scene. The victim was taken to the hospital in stable condition. Officers later arrested the suspect at an apartment complex. The major crimes unit took over the investigation and searched the suspect's residence, where they seized a loaded shotgun and an air pistol. A 29-year-old man has been charged with a dozen firearm, assault, and break-and-enter-related offences. He is in custody and none of the charges have been tested in court. B.C. man charged in highway crash that killed 2, injured 3 others
Police were called to the crash on Highway 1 in Burnaby, B.C., on Feb. 18, 2024. A Surrey, B.C., man has been charged with multiple counts of driving while impaired by drugs after a highway crash that killed two young people and seriously injured three others. A statement Friday from the Burnaby RCMP says 35-year-old Chi Sun Park is facing 15 charges in relation to the collision between a Tesla and a minivan last year. Two women from Maple Ridge, ages 20 and 23, were killed in the 3 a.m. crash on the Trans-Canada Highway near the Sprott Street exit on Feb. 18, 2024. Two other Maple Ridge women, also in their 20s, were seriously hurt, as was a Surrey man in his 30s. Police initially said impairment was not suspected as a contributor to the crash, however further investigation has led them to believe otherwise. 'This matter is now before the courts and no further information will be released at this time in order to respect the court process,' the RCMP statement said. The B.C. Prosecution Service approved the following charges against Park on June 9, according to police: Two counts of dangerous operation of a conveyance causing death; Three counts of dangerous operation of a conveyance causing bodily harm; Two counts of operation of a conveyance while impaired by drugs causing death; Three counts of operation of a conveyance while impaired by drugs causing bodily harm; Two counts of operation of a conveyance with a blood drug concentration that exceeded the concentration for methamphetamine prescribed by regulation causing death; Three counts of operation of a conveyance with a blood drug concentration that exceeded the concentration for methamphetamine prescribed by regulation causing bodily harm. Park is scheduled to appear in Vancouver provincial court on July 24.
