The best social media reactions to Notre Dame being able to get a bye in the CFP
If you haven't hear the news, on Thursday the College Football Playoff announced that its seeding model is going to change to a straight system, and the biggest benefactor of this was Notre Dame.
The Irish previously were unable to earn a bye, as they aren't affiliated with a conference, as the top ranked conference champions were the teams that didn't have to play in the first-round. That will now change, and it's a huge bonus for Notre Dame.
They'll be able to be a top-4 team, not having to win an extra game, and still be able to watch the eight other teams battle it out in mid-December. As it always does, social media reacted to the news, and it was very favorable for Notre Dame. Check out the best reactions below.
Some extra details on the announcement
Interesting that everyone thought that this was a good idea, maybe they saw what my thoughts were on the change. It makes plenty of sense after what we saw this year, and a big plus for Notre Dame is that they won't have to share the money earned with a conference. It looks like this might not be an immediate fix, but that is still up in the air.
No need to join a conference now
The biggest factor that could have made the Irish join a conference was this exact reason, not being able to earn a bye. Now that this is going out the window soon, there is absolutely no need for Notre Dame to join a conference in the forseeable future.
The exclusive club has opened for Notre Dame
While Notre Dame still would have had to play a first-round game this past year, the won't have that issue going forward. It's interesting that Dinich singled out the Irish, as they are the clear winner of this decision.
The photo tells it all
While College Football Report didn't mention the Irish, you know exactly who they thought of when the announcement was made. Notre Dame has to love this decision, as this evens the playing field for them.
Huge is an understatement
All Notre Dame has to do going forward is just handle its business and they should be in the field of 12. They can obviously now not have to worry about always having to play in the first-round.
Agreed
As mentioned before, this is exactly why this ruling was massive for Notre Dame. They can continue their business as normal and get rewarded by not having the play the first set of games of the CFP. Massive day for Irish Nation.

Ireland scores 106 against Portugal in record-breaking rugby match

LISBON, Portugal -- Paul O'Connell's sympathy for Portugal only went so far. After watching the Ireland rugby team he's nursing thrash Portugal by a record 106-7 on Saturday, the stand-in coach admitted he felt sorry for the home side. The 16-try victory surpassed the 83-3, 13-try win over the United States in 2000 and set Ireland records for most points, most tries and biggest margin. Ireland did it without 17 of its British and Irish Lions. 'I feel sorry for Portugal but we were very clinical and took our chances," O'Connell told Virgin Sports. 'It is a unique summer tour given the Lions tour is on at the same time, but I am very happy with how our squad applied themselves. It is great to get some guys capped and scoring tries and training in an international environment.' There were 11 different try-scorers for Ireland, including doubles for debutants Hugh Gavin and wing Shayne Bolton and one for debutant flanker Alex Kendellen. Flyhalf Jack Crowley nailed 12 of 15 conversion attempts. There was one penalty try. Portugal was playing Ireland for the first time. It was also Os Lobos' first test since March, when it finished fourth in the Rugby Europe Championship. Ireland next faces New Zealand in Chicago on Nov. 1.

Browns rookie RB Quinshon Judkins arrested, charged with battery in Florida

Cleveland Browns rookie running back Quinshon Judkins was arrested in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, on Saturday, July 12. According to the arrest report from the Broward County Sheriff's Office, Judkins was arrested and faces a single charge under Florida statute 784.03, relating to "touch or strike/battery/domestic violence." There is no bond amount set for Judkins, and his charge status is pending trial, according to police records. Per the Florida criminal code, Judkins faces a charge of battery, in which a person "actually and intentionally touches or strikes another person against the will of the other" — typically a first-degree misdemeanor that carries a penalty of a "definite term of imprisonment not exceeding one year" and a $1,000 fine. Selected with the 36th overall pick in the second round of the 2025 NFL Draft by the Browns, Judkins was one of 14 Ohio State players drafted back in April. A Browns spokesperson told the Akron Beacon Journal, part of the USA TODAY Network, the the team was "aware and gathering information" about Judkins' arrest. In his lone season at Ohio State, Judkins was part of a one-two punch running back group with TreVeyon Henderson, helping lead the Buckeyes to their first College Football Playoff national championship since 2014 with a 34-23 win over Notre Dame. In 16 games this past season for the Buckeyes, Judkins ran for 1,060 yards and 14 rushing touchdowns on 194 carries, adding 161 receiving yards and two receiving touchdowns on 22 receptions. He ran for 100 yards and two touchdowns in the national championship game. Across his three seasons at Ole Miss and Ohio State, Judkins ran for a combined 3,785 yards and 45 touchdowns. Judkins is scheduled to report to his first NFL training camp on Friday, July 18 with the rest of the Browns' rookies, per

What Colorado football fans need to know about the BYU Cougars

Following their meeting in the Alamo Bowl last season, Colorado and BYU are set to face off in a Big 12 matchup during Week 5 of this season. The two programs have met 12 times, with Colorado holding a 7-4-1 record. However, the Buffs have lost their last three meetings, with their last win dating back to 1947. Coming off a strong 2024 season, BYU was expected to build upon its 11-2 season, but has had a bumpy offseason. Projected starting quarterback Jake Retzlaff withdrew from the program and is attempting to play college football elsewhere. That is a massive blow to a Cougars squad that seemed so close to putting it all together for a possible College Football Playoff run. With a significant question mark at quarterback, here's a look at BYU heading into the 2025 season. Opponent Previews: Georgia Tech, Delaware, Houston, Wyoming 2024 in review As we discussed above, BYU dismantled Colorado in the Alamo Bowl, 36-14, to cap off a tremendous season. The Cougars opened the year with nine straight wins, including a lopsided victory over then-ranked Kansas State. However, BYU followed that win streak by going 1-2 to close out the regular season, which was enough to see them lose out on a spot in the Big 12 championship game on tiebreaks. Head coach profile Kalani Sitake enters his tenth season as BYU's head coach, becoming one of the longest tenured head coaches in the conference. The former BYU player himself, Sitake, owns an impressive 72-43 record as the Cougars' head man. In his nine seasons in Provo, he has only had two losing seasons. Sitake always seems to have his teams ranked toward the end of the season. Top offensive players BYU returns its starting running back and its top wide receiver from last season. Running back LJ Martin has the potential to become one of the Big 12's best after rushing for 718 yards and seven touchdowns in 2024. With mobile quarterback Jake Retzlaff out of the picture, expect Martin to be even more of a factor on offense. Chase Roberts, BYU's leading receiver from a season ago, racked up 854 yards and four touchdowns. We don't know yet who will be throwing him the football, but he has the talent to eclipse 1,000 yards this year. Top defensive player The top defensive player without a doubt goes to BYU's do-it-all linebacker, Isaiah Glasker. The junior defensive playmaker recorded 70 tackles last season to go along with 3.5 sacks, four pass breakups, three interceptions, one forced fumble and a defensive touchdown. Glasker filled out the stat sheet every time he took the field and comes into his third season of college football looking to become nationally recognized. 2025 schedule Way-too-early Colorado matchup preview A few weeks ago, I might have said Colorado has an uphill battle with BYU seemingly returning most of its production from 2024, but now things have changed. Having a question mark at quarterback like the Cougars do, a month away from the season, does not bode well for offensive chemistry. Furthermore, the quarterbacks currently on BYU's roster are very inexperienced. The Buffaloes will still need to play their "A" game, but the opening for a win is much larger without Retzlaff. Originally, I predicted a loss for Colorado, as I think they will beat one of Iowa State or BYU. The uncertainty regarding the BYU offense has me rethinking my prediction.
