
5G: Iraq to establish National Mobile Telecommunications Company
Iraq's Council of Ministers has approved the establishment of the National Mobile Telecommunications Company (NMTC), which will operate Iraq's 5G national license in cooperation with UK's Vodafone Group.
The initiative aims to develop the telecommunications sector, maximize revenues, and implement the government program.
The new company will be a private limited entity under the Companies Law No. 21 of 1997 (as amended), with equal ownership by: Al-Salam General Company (Ministry of Communications)
(Ministry of Communications) National Board of Pension / State Pension Fund
/ State Pension Fund Trade Bank of Iraq (TBI)
Each entity will contribute one-third of the capital as a long-term investment. The Council of Ministers will oversee key corporate decisions, including shareholding amendments, public offerings, and strategic planning.
The Minister of Communications has been assigned to supervise implementation and provide regular progress reports.

CBI, IFC consider New Leasing Company for Iraqi Start-Ups

Iraq, KRG Agree New Oil Export Mechanism
By John Lee. The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Ministry of Natural Resources and the Iraqi Ministry of Oil have agreed on a new mechanism for oil exports from the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. The deal, finalised after joint meetings beginning on 17 July 2025 and site visits to all regional oil fields, was signed on 11th August by delegations from both sides, including 17 representatives from the Iraqi Ministry of Oil. Under the agreement, 50,000 barrels per day (bpd) will be reserved for domestic use within the Kurdistan Region, with the remainder delivered to the State Oil Marketing Organisation (SOMO) for export. Iraqi PM announces $57m to finance Youth Projects

Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani has chaired the periodic meeting of the Supreme Council of Youth , coinciding with World Youth Day and the second anniversary of the Council's establishment. The meeting was attended by several ministers and senior advisers. The Council approved reallocating IQD 75 billion [$57 million] recovered from Agricultural Initiative loans to finance youth projects in agriculture, food security, and climate action under the Charity Initiative. Plans were also agreed to develop a "Residential Youth City" offering affordable housing, and to establish a "Youth Tower for Entrepreneurship" in Baghdad as a hub for start-ups. To boost skills, initiatives include a National Programming Competition, a National Language Competition, and professional programming courses at the American University of Baghdad in partnership with Al-Ahli Iraqi Bank. Employment measures include the Youth Entrepreneurs Program, training 500-1,000 young people in oil-producing provinces, and the launch of the "Knowledge Eyes" platform. Other approved projects include the Youth Ideas Program linking trained entrepreneurs to oil-sector companies, the Documentation initiative to distribute 1,000 wheelchairs to people with disabilities, the National Network of Youth Coaches to train 500 coaches nationwide, and a Virtual Centre for Addiction Treatment and Psychological Support.
