Here's How Much Sam's Club Customers Buy When They Order Pizza Delivery
Sam's, the warehouse operation run by Walmart (WMT), in May said delivery of its Member's Mark pizzas—a hot 16-inch version costs about $9—would be available nationwide by the end of the month. Members can schedule a window or pay up for "express" delivery within three hours. Those pizza orders are turning into wins for Sam's, Walmart CFO John David Rainey said Tuesday.
"You may hear that and think, 'Gosh, that can't be very economical for you to deliver a pizza to someone from a club,'" Rainey said at a conference, a transcript of which was made available by AlphaSense. "Here's the thing: The average basket size of a pizza delivery is over $100."
Pizza is a competitive business, with entrants coming not only from the kind of places you might think—pizza chains, grocery stores selling frozen and other varieties—but also places like Casey's General Stores (CASY), which is currently promoting a BBQ brisket variety, and Costco (COST), which sells take-and-bake pies along with slices for snacking shoppers.
For Sam's, which accounted for about 16% of Walmart's U.S. revenue in its last full year, the pies are driving sales of other, non-pizza, goods. (The company is seeing a similar effect with rotisserie chickens, executives have said.)
"Members are taking advantage of the broad assortment that we have, and while we are getting a pizza delivered, providing general merchandise or other items to go along with that, which makes that eCommerce delivery very attractive from an economic perspective for us," Rainey said.

Amazon Announces Major Change For Groceries
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Amazon has announced that customers in more than 1,000 U.S. cities and towns will soon be able order perishable groceries, including produce, dairy, meat, seafood, baked goods and frozen foods, for same-day delivery. The delivery giant will make the deliveries through its existing Same-Day Delivery network, with plans to expand the offering to roughly 2,300 locations by the end of 2025. Why It Matters The move places Amazon in more direct competition with Walmart+ and Instacart by lowering friction for customers to buy fresh food alongside nonfood items in a single checkout. Lower order minimums and free same-day delivery for Prime members could also nudge consumers toward Amazon and pressure rival delivery margins. What To Know On August 13, Amazon enabled same-day delivery of perishable groceries in more than 1,000 U.S. cities and towns and said it planned to reach roughly 2,300 locations by year-end. The company had piloted the service in major cities across the U.S., including Phoenix, Orlando, and Kansas City. Prime members receive same-day grocery delivery free on orders over $25 in most cities, while Prime orders below that minimum incur a $2.99 fee; non‑Prime customers can use the service for a $12.99 per-order fee. Amazon said it had integrated perishable items into its temperature-controlled fulfillment network and used insulated, recyclable bags and a six-point quality check for items before delivery. Marco Bertorello/AFP via Getty Images "This marks one of the most significant grocery expansions for Amazon as the company introduces thousands of perishable food items into its existing logistics network that is already optimized for speed and efficiency," Amazon said in their statement. "Customers will have the option to order produce, dairy, meat, seafood, baked goods, and frozen foods, alongside the millions of items such as everyday household essentials, electronics, fashion, home and garden, and more already available for Same-Day Delivery." What People Are Saying Doug Herrington, CEO of Worldwide Amazon Stores, said in a statement: "We're continuously innovating to make grocery shopping simpler, faster, and more affordable for our customers, especially Prime members. "By introducing fresh groceries into our Same-Day Delivery service, we're creating a quick and easy experience for customers. They can order milk alongside electronics; oranges, apples, and potatoes with a mystery novel; and frozen pizza at the same time as tools for their next home improvement project—and check out with one cart and have everything delivered to their doorstep within hours." What Happens Next Amazon planned to expand same-day perishables to roughly 2,300 cities by year-end and to continue building out its same-day logistics footprint, a move that could prompt faster delivery offers and pricing responses from Walmart+, Instacart and delivery platforms.

Stock Movers: Bullish, CoreWeave, Cisco
On this edition of Stock Movers: - Bullish (BLSH) shares jumped 84% from the IPO price after the digital-asset exchange operator and owner of media outlet CoinDesk raised $1.1 billion in an initial public offering. Shares of the Cayman Islands-based company closed at $68 each on Wednesday in New York, nearly doubling its IPO price of $37 apiece. The offering was upsized earlier in the week to 30 million shares, and the price range was increased. The trading gives Bullish a market value of $9.9 billion based on the outstanding shares listed in its filing. The IPO ended more than 20 times oversubscribed, with about a third of orders receiving no shares at all, people familiar with the matter have said. - Walmart (WMT), Instacart (CART), and Kroger (KR) shares fell after Inc. announced plans to offer same-day grocery delivery in 2,300 cities by the end of the year. Customers will be able to order perishable items such as produce, dairy, meat, seafood and baked goods, alongside frozen foods and household items, the company said in a statement on Wednesday. Same-day grocery delivery is free for Amazon Prime subscribers on orders over $25 in most cities, it said. For non-members, the service carries a $12.99 fee, regardless of order size. - CoreWeave (CRWV) shares tumbled after the cloud-computing provider reported a wider quarterly loss and gave a disappointing earnings outlook, raising concerns about its rapid AI data center expansion pressuring profit margins. Third-quarter operating income will be $160 million to $190 million, the company said Tuesday, underwhelming investors looking to justify a near-quadrupling of its share price since its March debut. Costs are surging, and CoreWeave posted a loss of $131 million for the June quarter — more than 20 times bigger than the loss a year earlier. - Cisco Systems (CSCO) shares fell after the company gave a lukewarm forecast for the current fiscal year, disappointing investors who hoped for a boost from massive AI data center projects. Sales will be between $59 billion and $60 billion in the fiscal year that runs through July 2026, the company said in a statement Wednesday. At the midpoint, that's roughly in line with the average Wall Street estimate of $59.5 billion, according to data compiled by Bloomberg. Some analysts, though, we're looking for more than $61 billion.
