Amazon has announced that customers in more than 1,000 U.S. cities and towns will soon be able order perishable groceries, including produce, dairy, meat, seafood, baked goods and frozen foods, for same-day delivery.
The delivery giant will make the deliveries through its existing Same-Day Delivery network, with plans to expand the offering to roughly 2,300 locations by the end of 2025.
Why It Matters
The move places Amazon in more direct competition with Walmart+ and Instacart by lowering friction for customers to buy fresh food alongside nonfood items in a single checkout. Lower order minimums and free same-day delivery for Prime members could also nudge consumers toward Amazon and pressure rival delivery margins.
What To Know
On August 13, Amazon enabled same-day delivery of perishable groceries in more than 1,000 U.S. cities and towns and said it planned to reach roughly 2,300 locations by year-end.
The company had piloted the service in major cities across the U.S., including Phoenix, Orlando, and Kansas City.
Prime members receive same-day grocery delivery free on orders over $25 in most cities, while Prime orders below that minimum incur a $2.99 fee; non‑Prime customers can use the service for a $12.99 per-order fee.
Amazon said it had integrated perishable items into its temperature-controlled fulfillment network and used insulated, recyclable bags and a six-point quality check for items before delivery.

"This marks one of the most significant grocery expansions for Amazon as the company introduces thousands of perishable food items into its existing logistics network that is already optimized for speed and efficiency," Amazon said in their statement.
"Customers will have the option to order produce, dairy, meat, seafood, baked goods, and frozen foods, alongside the millions of items such as everyday household essentials, electronics, fashion, home and garden, and more already available for Same-Day Delivery."
What People Are Saying
Doug Herrington, CEO of Worldwide Amazon Stores, said in a statement: "We're continuously innovating to make grocery shopping simpler, faster, and more affordable for our customers, especially Prime members.
"By introducing fresh groceries into our Same-Day Delivery service, we're creating a quick and easy experience for customers. They can order milk alongside electronics; oranges, apples, and potatoes with a mystery novel; and frozen pizza at the same time as tools for their next home improvement project—and check out with one cart and have everything delivered to their doorstep within hours."
What Happens Next
Amazon planned to expand same-day perishables to roughly 2,300 cities by year-end and to continue building out its same-day logistics footprint, a move that could prompt faster delivery offers and pricing responses from Walmart+, Instacart and delivery platforms.

US retail sales increase solidly in July

WASHINGTON (Reuters) -U.S. retail sales increased solidly in July, boosted by strong demand for motor vehicles as well as promotions by Amazon and Walmart, though a softening labor market and higher goods prices could curb growth in consumer spending in the third quarter. Retail sales rose 0.5% last month after an upwardly revised 0.9% gain in June, the Commerce Department's Census Bureau said on Friday. Economists polled by Reuters had forecast retail sales, which are mostly goods and are not adjusted for inflation, advancing 0.5% after a previously reported 0.6% rise in June. Part of the rise in retail sales last month could be due to tariff-driven price increases rather than volumes. A rush to buy battery-powered electric vehicles ahead of the September 30 expiration of federal government tax credits helped to drive automobile sales in July, analysts at J.P. Morgan said. Amazon and Walmart held sales promotions last month to lure inflation-weary consumers with deep discounts, including on back-to-school essentials. Amazon extended its sales window to 96 hours, up from the typical 48, featuring aggressive promotions on categories ranging from apparel to electronics. But downside risks to consumer spending are steadily rising. Middle- and higher-income households are mostly driving spending. Bank of America Institute said an analysis of deposit data showed a widening in the wage gap between lower-income and higher-income households, an indication the labor market "appears to have deteriorated most significantly for lower-income workers." It said while lower-income households might not be losing their jobs, "soft labor demand is pressuring their pay and they are potentially working fewer hours." Retail sales excluding automobiles, gasoline, building materials and food services increased 0.5% last month after an upwardly revised 0.8% rise in June. These so-called core retail sales, which correspond most closely with the consumer spending component of gross domestic product, were previously reported to have gained 0.5% in June.

HP Slashes Its Touchscreen Laptop (32GB RAM, 1TB SSD) by 70% to Clear Back-to-School Stock

Some laptops fight your rhythm. The HP Touchscreen Laptop Computer meets you where you are. Tap to pause a video, pinch to zoom a photo, sign a form with a fingertip, then slide right back into typing. It settles comfortably on a kitchen table or a dorm desk and feels useful from the first hour. Notes, forms, research, a little streaming in the corner; the pace of a typical day comes through without a lot of fiddling. Head over to Amazon to get the HP Touchscreen Laptop Computer for just $600, down from its usual price of $2,000. That's a discount of $1,400 and 70% off. See at Amazon The touchscreen steals the spotlight, not because it is flashy, but because it lowers your shoulders. Resize two windows with a quick tug, flick through a recipe with flour on your fingers, nudge a slide into place before class. The keyboard backs it up with steady, comfortable travel, so longer emails turn into real paragraphs instead of clipped lines. The touchpad responds to the gestures you want. For check-ins, the webcam provides a clear picture, and the mics capture your voice clearly without leaning toward the screen. Voices on shows and lectures are clear from the speakers; however, a pair of headphones can take over when the house gets loud. Little practical choices make it easy to live with. Ports cover the basics you actually use, so a thumb drive, an external display, and a charger can all find a home without a scavenger hunt. Bluetooth pairs a mouse or earbuds quickly. Wi Fi holds a steady line as you wander from kitchen to couch. The hinge opens with a smooth, no-drama motion, and the body moves from room to room without feeling precious. Battery life suits a normal day with breaks; a short top-up before dinner sets you up for the evening. In a shared space, it becomes the house laptop almost by accident. A student writes a paper while someone else uploads photos for a project, and later it turns into the family screen for a movie. Need more room. Add a second monitor and park chat on one side while the main window stays open on the other. Honest note, it is not built to replace a gaming tower, and it does not need to be. It handles the everyday list that keeps a week on track. If your current setup feels cramped or tired, this is a calm step up without a fussy learning curve. The HP Touchscreen Laptop Computer is still available for $600 at Amazon, down from the regular $2,000 price. See at Amazon
