Faena Hotel Miami Beach review: the city's most dazzling designer pad

Times29-06-2025
Renowned Argentinian hotelier Alan Faena never knowingly underplays his design hand, so the interiors of this much-loved Miami Beach hotel exude outrageously theatrical The Great Gatsby glamour. Its public areas shimmer with acres of gold leaf, lipstick-red velvets and leopard-print fabrics that create a 24/7 party-time ambience. But this place is about substance as well as style, so there are 179 exquisite — and, thankfully, more subdued — bedrooms, exceptional restaurants with slick service, an impressive spa, world-class cabaret performances in its own belle époque theatre. It also features incredible art, including the £9 million Gone But Not Forgotten installation by Damien Hirst — a three-metre high mammoth skeleton sprayed gold, guarding the hotel's cool pool and its peachy stretch of icing sugar-white beach.

Score 9/10While the bedrooms continue the signature pillar-box red colour theme, the in-your-face campness of downstairs is softened by art deco wood panelling and retro furniture, zingy turquoise velvet drapes and carpets, pretty coral-print cushions and leather armchairs. Indulgent touches include brushed gold fixtures, bespoke bed linen and goose-down pillows, and the bathrooms have turquoise houndstooth tiles and covetable Carrara marble, though you will need to trade up to a suite if you want a bath tub. Every bedroom has a balcony and the oceanfront ones have knockout views.
Score 9/10 Its flagship restaurant is Los Fuegos, the first North American outpost from the South American open-fire specialist Francis Mallmann. It's carnivore heaven, with irresistible wickedness such as wood-fired beef tenderloin with the creamiest of potatoes in a truffle beef jus, and unforgettably succulent racks of lamb with aubergine and mint yoghurt. Breakfast is also served in Los Fuegos, where there are plenty of oat, egg and avocado dishes as well as meaty options.
Seafood lovers will prefer the imaginative fusion of European and Japanese at Pau by Paul Qui, a James Beard Award-winning chef. Its signature dish, called Unicorn, features sea urchin and sweet corn pudding and is as delicious as it looks. Qui also oversees the six-seater El Secreto Omakase dining room for authentic Tokyo-style sushi. At lunchtime, you can get basics such as burgers, poke bowls and pizzas around the pool.

Score 9/10The Tierra Santa Healing House spa is a welcoming South American-inspired sanctuary of vibrant colour, flooded with light thanks to its location on the third floor. Its candle-lit hammam is one of the largest on America's east coast and its shaman-inspired rituals are supremely relaxing, while results-driven facials are delivered by A-list therapists using the cult french skincare range Biologique Recherche. There's also a well-equipped gym, a hair salon and daily yoga and meditation classes on the beach.
The Faena Theater, which wouldn't look out of place in a film from Hollywood in the Fifties, stages cabaret, dance and live music performances. The pool also exudes retro glamour with red-and-white striped umbrellas and muslin-draped cabanas.
Score 8/10Faena's masterplan didn't stop at his extraordinary hotel: he has created his own art district in the surrounding blocks. Across the street is Faena Forum, which showcases groundbreaking art works and Faena Bazaar, which is home to upmarket arty designer stores.

Disney fans react over 'obnoxious' park behavior

Published: | Updated: A fierce debate about filming at Disney World has erupted online after one streamer was called out for their 'rude' and 'obnoxious' behavior, even prompting cast members to weigh in. A Disney guest recently took to the popular WaltDisneyWorld section of Reddit , where they shared a picture of someone holding up an array of cameras and filming equipment while walking around the park. The unidentified man had a camera mount in both of his hands, and each one was attached to an iPhone as well as a portable charger and a slew of other wires. He held the devices above his head, surely making it a challenge to see what was happening for those standing behind him. 'Anyone else think this is just obsessive and obscene?' the Reddit user asked about the contraption. It sparked a heated argument about the topic, as hoards of people rushed to the comment section to share their thoughts. Many people agreed with the poster, and one person, claiming to be a Disney Cast Member, even chimed in about their experience with people filming content at the parks. 'Being a [cast member] sucks when it comes to this,' the user admitted. 'Yes, some influencers will ask permission to film us, especially involving pin videos. However, many exploit us for content. 'People generally don't realize that performing isn't just limited to entertainment. Every [cast member] is always putting on a show. 'Disney is always watching. Hearing these influencers stretch the truth, or leave out pertinent details as a "hack" grinds my gears.' Others shared their own experiences with people filming or holding multiple devices at the parks. '[Something like this] was in front of us during EPCOT's fireworks show last time we went. And she kept waving it in our faces. It was rude,' one person shared. 'Absolutely. I can't stand people who regularly live stream in the parks, [to be honest],' another wrote. 'I've had multiple instances where someone wasn't paying attention to anyone around them because they were streaming and either walked into us/in front of us, or were just being loud in an area that didn't warrant it, etc. It's incredibly obnoxious, especially when they have rigs or multiple camera setups like this.' Someone else said: 'We saw this today. Blocking off their space with all their cameras and tech and then getting mad when people move around them or get in their shot. 'I don't even mean close to show time. I mean hours and hours before the parade.' 'And incredibly annoying. Had a guy like that in front of me at fireworks one night- had to move as his lights were bright enough it actually interfered with the firework show,' read a fourth comment. A different user admitted: 'Disney influencers like this take the magic out of visiting the parks. Disney World is a place to escape the world and enter one of whimsy and fantasy.' They added: 'Disney really needs to start limiting the kind of filming equipment people can bring into the parks. 'I've seen people with tripods setting up shots as if they were filming a movie and acting like they can direct people to stay out of their shots, like they are filming an episode of Modern Family or Full House. A few people wondered why the man's mounts were allowed, given that Disney has a rule about selfie sticks. 'How is this allowed, but selfie sticks are not? If anything, I blame Disney for the inconsistency,' one person wondered. 'They don't allow selfie sticks, but this rig is OK?' someone else questioned.

Someone else shared: 'The YouTubers are getting out of control. Almost all of them are extremely rude.' Other comments read: 'I think obsessive is even more appropriate, that's insanity,' 'Obnoxious,' and, 'This shouldn't be allowed.' It added: 'Tripods or monopod stands that cannot fit inside a standard backpack or that extend over 6' (182 cm) are not allowed in theme parks, water parks, Disney Springs, or ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex.'
