According to a report from Fabrizio Romano, Mike Maignan's (29) move from AC Milan to Chelsea is off, following a breakdown in negotiations between the Premier League side and their Serie A counterparts.
The France international had been keen to join the London club, with reports suggesting that the goalkeeper had given Milan an ultimatum by refusing to sign a contract extension: in effect, to either sell him now or risk losing him for free in twelve months at the end of his current deal.

This situation had created a conflict in how Chelsea and Milan valued the player. Chelsea believed that he was worth around €10 million, while the Italian club believed he should still be worth €30 million.
Romano writes that Chelsea further did not want to pay the 'FIFA Club World Cup tax' (meaning they did not want to pay an inflated price so that the player would be in their squad ahead of the upcoming competition), and are content to contest the revamped tournament with their current options.

WACO, Texas (AP) — Baylor coach Scott Drew had plenty of players for the first practice of the summer Wednesday, about two months after the team photo from last season was widely circulated on social media with an X marked over all 14 of those players since none was returning to the Bears. Only four of those players exhausted their college eligibility. Nine others left in the transfer portal and one-and-done guard VJ Edgecombe could become Baylor's highest pick ever in the NBA draft later this month. 'Guys you didn't want to lose and were valuable, we haven't had many that we've lost. Whenever you do, that just tears at a coach, because you feel like you didn't do your job,' Drew said this week. 'With the portal, I think we've all gotten used to a lot more turnover in a hurry, and not to take things necessarily personal." The Bears rebuilt their roster with eight transfers and a four-player signing class with a five-star prospect and the son of a NBA champion. Among the 14 players at the first practice was Cameron Carr, the former Tennessee guard who transferred to Baylor in the middle of last season long after that team photo session. Advertisement Manchester City's €20 million valuation has put off Leverkusen, who are exited the race to sign McAtee, who has also attracted interest from Eintracht Frankfurt and VfB Stuttgart. It is worth noting that City are likely to prefer to sell McAtee to a foreign club. Cole Palmer joined Chelsea for £40 million in 2023 and has turned himself into one of the best forwards in Europe after two outstanding seasons in west London. City have frequently sold academy and bit-part players to their direct Premier League rivals and it has come back to bite them. Jack Grealish has also recently been linked with a move to Bayer Leverkusen and incoming manager Erik ten Hag is believed to have conveyed his desire of signing the 29-year-old England international to replace Wirtz, with Manchester City set to demand £50 million for their record signing this summer.
