Zohran Mamdani at risk of losing US citizenship? Shocking twist as New York's mayoral race heats up

Time of India7 hours ago

Zohran Mamdani
, the son of filmmaker Mira Nair and Mahmood Mamdani, a Ugandan author of Indian ancestry, was declared victorious in the Democratic mayoral primary Tuesday night. In a stunning victory, Mamdani defeated former governor
Andrew Cuomo
in the Democratic primary race for New York City mayor.
But President Trump and MAGA are not happy with Mamdani's victory with the commander-in-chief calling him a "100% communist lunatic".
MAGA Republicans
have taken it to next level as they have called for the deportation of New York City Democratic mayoral nominee Zohran Mamdani.
The White House has framed the upset victory by Mamdani who could become New York City's first Muslim and Indian American mayor, as evidence of uncontrolled migration.

Responding to the results, the NYYRC wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter: "A CALL TO ACTION FROM THE NYYRC"
The
New York Young Republican Club
, or NYYRC, took to X, begging Trump immigration advisers Stephen Miller and Tom Homan to revoke Mamdani's US citizenship and deport him.
'The radical Zohran Mamdani cannot be allowed to destroy our beloved city of New York,' the NYYRC's post states. 'The Communist Control Act lets President Trump revoke @ZohranKMamdani's citizenship and promptly deport him. The time for action is now—@StephenM and @RealTomHoman, New York is counting on you.'
— NYYRC (@NYYRC)
In the replies, the X account for the Republicans for National Renewal tweeted, 'We fully support this initiative. Communist radical Zohran Mamdani should be remigrated as soon as possible,' and the John Birch Society approvingly posted a '100' emoji.

The message was reposted by the accounts of numerous conservative figures, including Gavin Wax, who was formerly the NYYRC president as well as the chief of staff for recently departed Federal Communications Commissioner Nathan Simington, who has recommended Wax as his successor.
Stephen Miller, White House deputy chief of staff and homeland security adviser, tore into Zohran Mamdani and attributed the expected outcome of the primary to 'unchecked migration.'
'The commentary about NYC Democrats nominating an anarchist-socialist for Mayor omits one point: how unchecked migration fundamentally remade the NYC electorate. Democrats change politics by changing voters. That's how you turn a city that defined US dominance into what it is now,' Miller said in a post on the social platform X early Wednesday.
'To understand the pace and scope of migration to America in past years, one-third of NYC is foreign-born and almost two-thirds of NYC children live in a foreign-born household,' he added in another post.
'NYC is the clearest warning yet of what happens to a society when it fails to control migration,' Miller said in another post, which generated some pushback among more liberal X users.

On Wednesday, President Trump hit out at Mamdani, currently a New York State Assemblyman, branding him "a 100% Communist Lunatic" on his Truth Social website.
"It's finally happened, the Democrats have crossed the line. Zohran Mamdani, a 100% Communist Lunatic, has just won the Dem Primary, and is on his way to becoming Mayor," Trump said in a post on Truth Social. "We've had Radical Lefties before, but this is getting a little ridiculous," Trump wrote. "He looks TERRIBLE, his voice is grating, he's not very smart, he's got AOC+3, Dummies ALL, backing him, and even our Great Palestinian Senator, Cryin' Chuck Schumer, is groveling over him. Yes, this is a big moment in the History of our Country!" he added.
Mamdani was born in Uganda in October 1991. His family moved to New York City when he was 7 years old in 1998. Mamdani was naturalized as a U.S. citizen in 2018.

'Jagmeet Singh is target of hate because...': Shocking report reveals steep rise in South Asian hate in Canada

Jagmeet Singh has been the target of online hatred toward South Asians which sees a rising trend in Canada, report revealed. Between March 1 and April 20, just before the election in Canada, there were more than 2,300 social media posts on X from Canadian accounts targeting South Asians, and the easy target was former NDP leader Jagmeet Singh . A report titled 'The Rise of Anti-South Asian hate in Canada', conducted by UK-based Institute for Strategic Dialog, revealed the trend of a steep rise in hate toward South Asians in Canada, Toronto Star reported. The report said Canada is being used as an example of what happened when immigration policies led to an "invasion" of South Asian migrants. The report noted that while the study was on social media hatred, the trend is not limited to the online world. "Between 2019 and 2023, police-reported hate crimes against South Asians in Canada increased by more than 200 per cent, according to Statistics Canada," the report said. Analyst at ISD Steven Rai told the Toronto Star that these stereotypes are being promoted by domestic extremists and then getting picked up by people all around the world. Rai said Jagmeet Singh is a target of hate not only because he's a brown man who wears a turban, but also because he's articulate, well-dressed and has reached the upper echelons of Canadian society. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Worst Home Items That People Own, Ranked CleverClassic Undo 'If you're a white supremacist and you're seeing someone like Jagmeet Singh flourish and gain prominence in Canadian politics and in society … a person like that is really seen as a profound threat,' Rai said. 'Investigate Zohran Mamdani if he concealed...' Rep Andy Ogles writes to DOJ, says his rap lyrics were problematic

GOP leader urged Pam Bondi to launch an investigation into Zohran Mamdani. Amid Republicans' call to deport Zohran Mamdani, the Socialist candidate who won the Democratic primary for the New York mayor election, Congressman Andy Ogles wrote to the Department of Justice seeking an investigation to be launched into Mamdani's citizenship. The Republican leader doubled that Mamdani may have procured US citizenship through "wilful misrepresentation of concealment of material support for terrorism". Indian-Ugandan-origin Zohran K Mamdani became a US Citizen in 2018, 20 years after he arrived in the country along with his parents. In 2020, he was first elected to the New York Assembly and has been holding public office since then, but his win in the primary has now led to a frenzy among Republicans. Citing Mamdani's past career as a rapper, Ogles said he used words like "Free the Holy Land Five/My guys" in his rap, while The Holy Land Foundation was convicted in 2008 for supporting Hamas. — RepOgles (@RepOgles) "While I understand that some may raise First Amendment concerns about taking legal action based on expressive conduct, such as rap lyrics, speech alone does not preclude accountability where it reasonably suggests underlying conduct relevant to eligibility of naturalization," he wrote. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Langenberg: GEERS sucht 700 Testhörer für Hörgeräte ohne Zuzahlung GEERS Undo "If an individual publicly glorifies a group convicted of financing terrorism, it is entirely appropriate for federal authorities to inquire whether the individual engaged in non-public forms of support 00 such as organizational affiliation, fundraising, or advocacy -- that would have required disclosure on Form N-400 or during a naturalization interview." "The naturalization process depends on the good-faith disclosure of any affiliation with, or support for, groups that threaten US national security. Whatever decision is taken will only benefit the nation." During a media briefing on the 11 years of the Modi government, Patil highlighted the government's achievements and work done by the Jal Shakti Ministry. He mentioned, "Under PM Modi's leadership, our country has been growing... This is the first government that thinks for all sections of society... Our farmers are getting direct transfer benefits." Patil also spoke about the government's efforts to conserve and effectively use water for the country's benefit, stating that a Rs 501 crore grant has been received for the Jal Jeevan Mission and the ministry is actively working on its implementation. Earlier, an important source told ANI that the Indian government has decided to divert water meant for Pakistan under the Indus Waters Treaty for use in four Indian states, Rajasthan, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, and Delhi. The Jal Shakti Ministry is working on infrastructure development at a war-footing level to implement this decision. The ministry aims to ensure that not a single drop of water meant for Pakistan goes to waste. Instead, it will be utilised to meet the water needs of four states, Rajasthan, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, and Delhi. These states will benefit from the diverted water, addressing their water shortages, sources added. This initiative aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's statement that "Desh ka pani desh ke haq me bahega ("India's water will flow in India's favour")". The Jal Shakti Ministry has been working towards this goal under the guidance and supervision of Home Minister Amit Shah. Union Jal Shakti Minister CR Patil held several meetings at the Jal Shakti Ministry to review and discuss the Indus Water Treaty with officials. (With ANI inputs)
