Ex-Coweta County deputy charged with assaulting inmate
COWETA COUNTY, Ga. - A former Coweta County jailer is now facing time behind bars himself. According to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI), 29-year-old Justin Alexander Woods of Hoganville is accused of using excessive force against an inmate.
What we know
It happened inside the Coweta County Jail on Feb. 24.
The GBI says Woods hit and tased an inmate who was fully restrained during an argument. Other detention officers witnessed the incident.
Woods was arrested by the GBI and has been booked into that same jail.

Coweta County Sheriff Lenn Wood acknowledged the incident in a statement released to the media:
"In February of 2025, The Office of Professional Standards was made aware of an incident involving former Corporal Justin Woods alleging the use of inappropriate force on an inmate in the Coweta County Detention Center.
"An internal investigation began and Mr. Woods was immediately placed on administrative leave while the incident was being investigated. During the course of this investigation, The Georgia Bureau of Investigation was requested to conduct an independent investigation. Prior to the internal investigation being completed, Woods resigned from the Coweta County Sheriff's Office."

Woman and family members kill her husband in self-defense at Buckhead apartment complex, police say
Atlanta police are investigating a fight between a husband and wife that turned deadly in Buckhead. At about 11:30 p.m. Wednesday, police responded to the Cortland Peachtree Battle apartment complex at 2420 Peachtree Road in Atlanta to reports of shots fired. When they arrived, they found a man dead in a hallway. Atlanta Police Homicide Commander Andrew Smith said a man in his mid-30s entered the apartment building, approached the apartment of his wife, also in her mid-30s, and fired two shots. Smith said the man and woman were in the process of getting a divorce. Police aren't sure at this time how he was able to enter the building and have not revealed how the woman and her family members killed the man. Investigators are collecting evidence and interviewing witnesses. It is unclear if charges will be filed. Police urge anyone with information about this shooting to call Atlanta Crime Stoppers at 404-577-TIPS (8477). Tipsters can remain anonymous. Manhunt underway for GA man accused of ramming truck into patrol vehicle, leaving deputy injured
A suspect wanted for assault on a deputy remains at large, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. [DOWNLOAD: Free WSB-TV News app for alerts as news breaks] On Wednesday, around 3:30 a.m., a Habersham County deputy stopped a truck pulling a trailer near Juniper Trail in Toccoa. The GBI said the trailer had two flat tires. The truck stopped at the end of Juniper Trail. Officials said that as the deputy stepped out of his patrol car, the driver of the truck, Jonathan William Harris, 34, of Sautee, Ga., rammed into the patrol car, causing it to hit the deputy and knock him to the ground. The GBI said Harris got out of the truck, and that's when the deputy fired his gun and the 34-year-old ran away. The deputy sustained minor injuries and Harris's condition is unknown, the GBI said. Harris is facing charges of possession of a firearm/knife during the commission of a crime, fleeing/eluding a police officer, aggravated assault upon a law enforcement officer, obstruction of an officer, and theft by receiving stolen property.
