A former mayor accused of credit card fraud is now behind bars, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. [DOWNLOAD: Free WSB-TV News app for alerts as news breaks] Paul Walton, 58, of McDonough, turned himself in to the Madison County Sheriff's Office on May 8. Walton, the former Mayor of Hull, was accused of using his city credit card for personal use. The GBI said Walton served as the Mayor of Hull from 2019 to 2023. This case was turned over to the Northern Judicial Circuit grand jury on April 21, 2025. Walton was indicted for one count of violation of oath of office, one count of felony theft by taking, and 54 counts of financial transaction card fraud. COWETA COUNTY, Ga. - A former Coweta County jailer is now facing time behind bars himself. According to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI), 29-year-old Justin Alexander Woods of Hoganville is accused of using excessive force against an inmate. What we know It happened inside the Coweta County Jail on Feb. 24. The GBI says Woods hit and tased an inmate who was fully restrained during an argument. Other detention officers witnessed the incident. Woods was arrested by the GBI and has been booked into that same jail. What they're saying Coweta County Sheriff Lenn Wood acknowledged the incident in a statement released to the media: "In February of 2025, The Office of Professional Standards was made aware of an incident involving former Corporal Justin Woods alleging the use of inappropriate force on an inmate in the Coweta County Detention Center. "An internal investigation began and Mr. Woods was immediately placed on administrative leave while the incident was being investigated. During the course of this investigation, The Georgia Bureau of Investigation was requested to conduct an independent investigation. Prior to the internal investigation being completed, Woods resigned from the Coweta County Sheriff's Office." What's next This is an ongoing investigation. NEWINGTON, Ga. (WSAV) — The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is currently investigating the death of a 21-year-old in Screven County. The investigation comes at the request of the Screven County Sheriff's Office (SCSO). The early stages of the investigation shows that SCSO responded to Simpson Town Road in reference to a shooting on Monday, April 7, at approximately 12:55 p.m. Upon arrival, law enforcement discovered Isaiah Barbee Jr. with a gunshot wound. Barbee was taken to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. Barbee's body will be taken to the GBI Crime Lab in Pooler, where a Medical Examiner will perform an autopsy. STATESBORO, Ga. (WSAV) — A Statesboro man has been arrested and charged by the GBI for sexual exploitation of children, a press release said. According to a GBI spokesperson, they began investigating 46-year-old Elias John Gregory after receiving a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) regarding the possible online possession and distribution of child sexual abuse material. The investigation led to Gregory's arrest, a GBI spokesperson said. He was booked into the Bulloch County Jail. METTER, Ga. (WSAV) — GBI agents are investigating at Thursday night shooting that occurred on Creekside Way in Metter. Around 11:45 p.m. March 6, Candler County deputies responded to a reported home invasion at the 100 block of Creekside Way. Deputies found two people with gunshot wounds at the home. They were both transported to a local hospital and are in stable condition, the GBI said. The Candler County Sheriff's Office requested assistance from the GBI, a GBI spokesperson said.
