Moreover, it will be an innovative centre with a focus on digital technologies and a sustainable approach, in line with NABA's sustainability manifesto.
'At NABA, we believe in an education that trains people, not just professionals. With this opening, the Academy is strengthening its global vocation, creating an environment where cultures come together to design tomorrow together. The NABA campus in London will be an important step that allows us to replicate outside Italy the didactic and educational approach that has always set us apart and enables us to consolidate the Academy's positioning in the panorama of artistic education at the international level. Indeed, NABA was included in the 2025 QS World University Rankings® by Subject as the first and only Italian Academy of Fine Arts to be among the 100 best universities in the world in the field of Art & Design. Our aim is not just to offer an alternative to the great British institutions, we want to introduce a new voice, able to unite heritage and the avant-garde,' said Daniele Bisello o Ragno, Managing Director of NABA, Nuova Accademia di Belle Arti. And he added: 'Our uniqueness lies in the combination of the excellence of Italian design and an experiential and creative educational approach with interdisciplinary, tech-driven programmes connected with the creative industries. We offer classes tailor-made for the student, a 'boutique' model that values individual talent. Our wish is to be able to offer a model that can be replicated in other countries, in the short and long term. We hope that London is the first of many new premises at the global level.'

Roundup: Italy urges dialogue with U.S. as tariff hikes threaten blns in loss

ROME, July 14 (Xinhua) -- Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani said Monday the European Union (EU) is prepared to impose billions of euros in retaliatory tariffs on U.S. goods should ongoing trade negotiations between the two sides fail to produce an agreement. In an interview published Monday by Italian daily Il Messaggero, Tajani emphasized that while the EU has the tools to defend its economic interests, dialogue remains the preferred path forward. "Tariffs hurt every side, including the U.S.," he said. "If the stock market falls, that puts the pensions and savings of Americans at risk." Tajani's remarks followed U.S. President Donald Trump's announcement on Saturday that Washington will impose a 30 percent tariff on imports from the EU and Mexico starting Aug. 1. The move marks the latest escalation in a series of tariff policies introduced by the Trump administration, even as U.S. and European officials are still working on a trade agreement. Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni also voiced concern over the prospect of a transatlantic trade war, warning that such a development would harm both sides. "Our government is in close contact with the European Commission and all parties involved in the tariff negotiations," Meloni said in a statement. "A trade war within the West would make us all weaker in the face of global challenges we are addressing together. Europe has the economic strength to protect its interests and reach a fair agreement." An analysis by the Milan-based Institute for International Political Studies suggested that Italy would be among the EU countries most affected by the U.S. tariffs. Under a 30-percent duty scenario, Germany's gross domestic product (GDP) would contract by an estimated 0.5 percent compared to a no-tariff baseline, while Italy's GDP would shrink by approximately 0.36 percent. On Monday, the Association for the Development of Industry in the Mezzogiorno (SVIMEZ) released its estimate of the impact of the U.S. tariffs on Italy's exports, projecting a reduction of nearly one-fifth in export volume and a loss of 12.4 billion euros in trade once the tariffs take effect. SVIMEZ also warned of broader macroeconomic consequences, estimating a 0.5-percent reduction in Italy's GDP in 2026 and the potential loss of up to 150,000 jobs, including some 13,000 in the country's southern regions. "The repercussions would be nationwide," SVIMEZ President Luca Bianchi told Class CNBC. Italy's main agricultural organization, Coldiretti, echoed the concerns, warning that the proposed tariffs could deal "a deadly blow" to the agri-food sector. "Thirty-percent tariffs could inflict combined damages of up to 2.3 billion euros on Italian producers and U.S. consumers alike," Coldiretti said. Key agricultural exports such as cheese, wine, and processed foods would be hit hardest, the group noted. According to Coldiretti's estimates, the new duties would raise overall tariffs on Italian cheese to 45 percent, wine to 35 percent, processed tomatoes to 42 percent, stuffed pasta to 36 percent, and jams and marmalades to 42 percent. LVMH Italian fashion house Loro Piana put under court administration

ROME: talian fashion house Loro Piana, owned by French giant LVMH, has been placed under court administration for allegedly facilitating the exploitation of workers by subcontractors, police and a company source said Monday. In a statement, the Italian police labour protection service said it had 'executed a decree of judicial administration issued by the Milan court' against a company operating in the high fashion sector. A source inside Loro Piana, which is known for its cashmere, confirmed to AFP the proceedings against it, but the company did not provide any official comment. The police said the company had been deemed 'incapable of preventing or curbing labour exploitation within the production cycle by failing to implement adequate measures to verify the actual working conditions or the technical capacities of its contractors'. An investigation found the fashion house entrusted the production of its clothing, including cashmere jackets, to a company without production facilities. That firm outsourced the work to another company, which in turn used workshops employing Chinese workers to save costs. In these workshops, irregular workers were exploited without respecting health and safety rules, particularly regarding wages, working hours, breaks and holidays, investigators found. The judges of the Milan court found that Loro Piana 'negligently facilitated' the exploitation, according to the police statement. The investigation began in May following a complaint from a Chinese worker who claimed he was beaten by his boss after demanding payment of back wages. The police carried out inspections in factories run by Chinese citizens in the area surrounding Milan, finding violations of workplace rules as well as illegally built dormitories and unsanitary conditions. Proceedings were brought against two Chinese nationals who owned workshops, two Italians for violations of workplace health and safety standards, and seven workers without residence permits. The court also imposed fines totalling over 181,000 euros ($211,000) and administrative penalties of around 60,000 euros. The operations of two Chinese workshops were also suspended 'for serious safety violations and the use of undeclared labour', the police statement said. Loro Piana was acquired by LVMH in 2013, and is currently led by Frederic Arnault, son of LVMH chairman Bernard Arnault. The company did not comment on the proceedings in Milan. The Italian justice system has already carried out similar proceedings against other fashion houses including Armani. In May, the Italian competition authority cleared luxury brand Dior -- also owned by LVMH -- of violations in working conditions but required it to pay a two-million-euro fine towards 'victims of exploitation'. – AFP
