Runners turn out for the finale of the Gwent road race series
The GLCL has a series of five road races in the summer, from May to August. On a stunning summer's evening, all the runners enjoyed running the two-lap 5.1 mile undulating course around the lake and golf course. Both men and women's teams were third out of nine other running clubs in South East Wales and a total of 345 runners competed in this grand finale. Podium positions for Harriers went to Tim Batchelor, Charlie Bendall, Jonathan Carter, Tony Marshall, Paul Dodd, Andy Creber, Steve Owen, Neil Grant, Dave Andrews, Dick Finch, Lisa Jeffrey, Vanessa Lawson, Niki Morgan, Cherry Fowler, Julia Bajjada, Gill Ellis, Brenda Avery, Jane Bayliss and Marg Griffiths. Official results from the series of five races are yet to be confirmed but Chepstow's men and women are both likely to be third overall. The cross country season will start in October where the Harriers will be swapping their road shoes for cross-country spikes and embracing the mud. Elsewhere, cricketer, footballer and occasional golfer Ryan Hudson realised his ambition to run the Magor 10k in under 48 minutes despite a couple of ailments which hampered his preparation. 'Training was ruined by tendonitis and a sinus infection,' he said later. 'But it all worked out in the end and I managed it in 47 minutes 22 seconds.'
