Ashok Gehlot's remarks on ‘conspiracy' to topple CM Bhajan Lal Sharma create flutter in Rajasthan
Veteran Congress leader Ashok Gehlot's remarks claiming that a 'conspiracy' was being hatched to topple Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma created a flutter in Rajasthan's political circles on Wednesday (June 25, 2025) The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party leaders reacted sharply and advised Mr. Gehlot to pay attention to the leadership crisis in his own party.
Mr. Gehlot said while talking to journalist during his visit to Jodhpur that the BJP members, both in Rajasthan and in Delhi, were engaged in the task of dislodging Mr. Sharma, but the latter was 'acting ignorant', for which he would suffer. 'A massive conspiracy is underway. We are saying this repeatedly… But he [Mr. Sharma] is not cautious about it,' he said.
Showing concern for Mr. Sharma, Mr. Gehlot, the former Chief Minister, said, 'He is a young first-time MLA appointed as the CM. It is a big deal. We believe he should be given a fair chance and allowed to maintain his position. Where is the need for changing the CM?' The people within the BJP were trying to pull Mr. Sharma down, he said.
Mr. Sharma, the first-time MLA from Sanganer, was appointed the Chief Minister after his name was announced at the BJP legislature party meeting held here after the party's victory in the 2023 State Assembly election. Mr. Sharma claimed earlier this week that the BJP's one-and-a-half years of governance had outperformed the five-year tenure of Congress.
Mr. Gehlot warned the Chief Minister about 'flatterers who have laid siege around him' and were constantly praising him by terming his government great. 'The reality is that the situation in Rajasthan is grave and the people are suffering. We raise the issues based on public sentiments, but if the CM remains in delusion, it is going to cause him trouble,' he said.
Commenting on the BJP's observance of 50th anniversary of the Emergency, Mr. Gehlot said the Emergency was imposed in some 'special circumstances', but its result went against the Congress. 'We accepted that the people had turned against us, but the Congress won with a thumping majority under the wave of Indira Gandhi [in 1980],' he said.
The BJP leaders said Mr. Gehlot was making an attempt to create confusion by his claim without any basis. Deputy CM Diya Kumari, Industries Minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore, Minister of State for Energy Heeralal Nagar and Rajya Sabha MP Ghanshyam Tiwari criticised Mr. Gehlot's remarks and said he himself had faced rebellion in 2020 during his tenure.

BJP trying to create divide among people based on language: Uddhav Thackeray
MUMBAI: Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray on Thursday alleged the BJP is trying to create a divide among people based on language and accused the ruling party of imposing a 'language emergency' in Maharashtra. Talking to reporters here, the former Maharashtra chief minister insisted his party, a former BJP ally, was not opposed to Hindi, but asserted it was certainly against the language's imposition in the predominantly Marathi-speaking state. "We don't oppose or hate any language, but that doesn't mean we will allow imposition of any language," he emphasised amid the ongoing controversy over teaching Hindi to students of Classes 1 to 5 in Marathi and English medium schools. "The BJP is trying to create a divide among people based on language," he claimed. He alleged the BJP's hidden agenda was to impose Hindi. "The ruling party is imposing a language emergency," the former CM claimed.

Alliance on cards? Shiv Sena (UBT), MNS unions join hands; moves comes ahead of BMC polls
MUMBAI: Amid reports that the Shiv Sena (UBT) and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena ( MNS ) could form an alliance for the BMC polls, netas from both parties came together against a private airline over alleged anti-worker practices. This added fuel to speculation of a potential reunion between the estranged Thackeray cousins. Sena (UBT) MP Arvind Sawant and MNS functionary Nitin Sardesai jointly met officials and workers of the airline on Wednesday to press for their demands and warned the company of Sena-style action if the demands were not met. Sawant alleged that a 'BJP-backed union' set up in May pressured the airline's management and warned the airline's management against ignoring workers' demands, which prominently included a wage hike and better contracts. So on Wednesday, we met employees and also took up the issue with the Labour Commissioner. If the airline management doesn't respond, we will take to the streets in Shiv Sena style. The wage hike must be agreed and given," Sawant said. Sardesai stated that they met only to discuss and press for the workers' wage hike and other demands, emphasising that the MNS was working for the Marathi youth. "This meeting had nothing to do with the alliance. Any decision or view on any alliance with anyone will be taken by our President Raj Thackeray. We know that the Marathi people and workers of the airlines who are facing injustice are with us," Sardesai said. Recently, at the Sena (UBT) foundation day event, indicating that the option of an alliance with the MNS was on the cards, Sena (UBT) President Uddhav Thackeray said that he would do what is in the minds of Shiv Sainiks and the people of the state and that people would know about it soon.

Congress Fury Over BJP's "Indira Gandhi Equals Hitler" Emergency Shocker
New Delhi: Karnataka Congress leader S Manohar, the General Secretary of the party's state unit, has filed a police case against the Bharatiya Janata Party after an outrageous social media post about former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and the Emergency imposed by her government from 1975 to 1977. The BJP's post, shared on X, featured an AI-generated video of Indira Gandhi but with a toothbrush moustache, a style now indelibly associated with Adolf Hitler. The 37-second video begins with the AI-Indira Gandhi stating 'I declare Emergency and take the country under my control'. The AI narrator then proclaims June 25, the day the Emergency notification was issued, as 'the night India lost its voice (and) democracy (was) buried'. "... fear ruled the streets, the press was silenced and leaders were jailed... freedom was stolen and curfews were forced... a nation watched helpless'. 'For 21 months, darkness reigned. This was our warning. Never forget, never again.' The video was posted with the note: "INDIRA DOES NOT EQUAL INDIA, INDIRA EQUALS HITLER". INDIRA = INDIA❌ INDIRA = HITLER ✅ — BJP Karnataka (@BJP4Karnataka) June 26, 2025 The Congress leader's FIR has condemned the BJP's post as disrespectful not only towards Indira Gandhi but also meant to provoke hatred between different religious gourps and communities. Mr Manohar has demanded legal action against the BJP's social media handle. 'Suspended Democracy' The BJP's main X handle posted a similar video, calling the Emergency a "Hitlerian vestige... in a saree." Another AI-generated effort, the 12-second clip showed Mrs Gandhi in a saree at a podium. As the clip plays Mrs Gandhi shadow morphs into that of Hitler and the background turns dark red. Indira's Emergency was no accident — it was Hitlerian vestige of the past, dressed in a saree. #SamvidhanHatyaDiwas — BJP (@BJP4India) June 25, 2025 Every year since the BJP came to power at the centre - riding on the back of a 'Congress-mukt Bharat' plan - the Emergency has been a flashpoint between it and the opposition party, with the BJP maximising its attacks to counter the Congress' criticism about subversion of the Constitution. That the BJP plans on changing the Constitution to remove, among other things, India's secular nature, was a key issue raised by the opposition while campainging for the 2024 Lok Sabha election. Last year Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the BJP's charge. " Dark days of the Emergency remind us of how the Congress subverted basic freedoms and trampled over the Constitution of India, which every Indian respects greatly," the Prime Minister had said on X. "To cling on to power, the Congress disregarded every democratic principle and made the nation a jail... those who imposed Emergency have no right to profess love for the Constitution." This year too Mr Modi and senior BJP leaders, including Home Minister Amit Shah, launched fierce attacks on the Congress. The Emergency that enforced by a "despotic ruler" was one of the darkest chapters in India's history, Mr Shah said, while BJP chief JP Nadda hailed the PM's contributions. The Congress, meanwhile, as it does every year, has pointed out that while the Emergency was a distressing period, the country has moved on and there are issues to be addressed today. "The PM's sudden interest in the Constitution is only to counter our campaign to protect it. Those who never contributed to the freedom struggle or making of the Constitution are now claiming to defend it," party boss Mallikarjun Kharge said.
