2nd batch of AP Haj pilgrims departs from Hyderabad
The flag-off ceremony took place at Shah Function Plaza in Lakdikapul in Hyderabad, organised jointly by the Ministry of Minority Affairs and the Haj Committee. Minister Farooq accompanied by Minority Affairs Ministry Advisor MA Sharif, Haj Committee Chairman Hasan Basha and other committee members, extended their best wishes to the departing pilgrims.
Minister Farooq stated that a total of 1,630 pilgrims from Andhra Pradesh are undertaking the sacred Haj journey this year. Of these, 1,170 are departing from the Hyderabad embarkation center, 451 from Bengaluru, and the remaining nine from other embarkation points.
He further detailed that 818 Haj pilgrims are scheduled to travel from the Hyderabad embarkation center on Monday and Tuesday across three flights. An additional 88 pilgrims will depart on the final flight on May 27.
Due to only 72 pilgrims opting for Vijayawada as their embarkation point, and resulting technical limitations preventing a special charter flight from being arranged by the Indian Ministry of Aviation, the Haj Committee of India, Mumbai, granted permission for these 72 pilgrims to depart from Hyderabad.
Minister Farooq also highlighted that during the first phase last month, 724 pilgrims from Andhra Pradesh successfully travelled to the holy cities of Mecca and Medina from Hyderabad and Bengaluru embarkation centers. He assured that all these pilgrims reached their destinations safely and securely with the support of the state government, and similar arrangements have been made for the remaining pilgrims.
The Minister extended his gratitude to the governments of Telangana and Karnataka for their full cooperation.
Haj Committee EO Ghaus Peer and representatives from the Minority Ministries and Haj Committees of both Telugu states were also present.

VIJAYAWADA: Pilgrims who completed their Haj journey with the State government's support expressed gratitude to Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Thursday for extending financial assistance. Festival rush begins early: Long waitlists on trains to and from Visakhapatnam
Visakhapatnam:The festival rush is clearly reflected in the reservation charts, as berths in many trains from Hyderabad, Vijayawada, Chennai, and Bangalore to Visakhapatnam — as well as to destinations towards Bhubaneswar and return routes towards Hyderabad and Vijayawada — are showing massive waiting lists. Even 50 days ahead of Dasara, railway reservations have become difficult for passengers. Berths in several trains from Hyderabad to Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam, and Bhubaneswar are either on long waiting lists or marked as 'regret'. Around two lakh people from North Andhra, working in various cities and towns across both Telugu states, as well as Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, return home during major festivals like Dasara and Sankranti to celebrate with their families. Migration from the North Andhra region is higher compared to other regions, and many migrant labourers and employees travel with their families during the festive season. Most have planned to return to their native places before Dasara, on Oct 2 (Thursday). Travel plans are concentrated around the weekend from Sept 27 (Saturday) to Sept 30 (Tuesday). The Falaknuma Superfast Express (12704) is on 'regret' status from Sept 27 to Oct 1, and has a waiting list for Dasara and the following days. Berths in trains like the Nanded–Sambalpur (20810), East Coast Express, Konark, and Visakha Express are also on waiting lists. The Chennai Central to Visakhapatnam Superfast (12840) train shows 'regret' status on Sept 27, 28, and even on Sept 30. The Coromandel Express is in a similar situation. Weekly express trains such as Chennai Egmore–Visakhapatnam (12375) and Kanyakumari–Howrah (CAPE HWH SF EXP 12666) have already closed reservations. Other weekly superfast trains, like the Perambur–Visakhapatnam (running between Tirunelveli and Purulia) and the Guwahati Express (12509), are on waiting lists. Goa govt launches Homestay and Bed and Breakfast Scheme
Agency: PTI Last Updated: Panaji, Aug 7 (PTI) The Goa government on Thursday launched its 'Homestay and Bed and Breakfast Scheme' to boost rural and community-based tourism. Under the scheme, which was formally launched by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant at the Secretariat in Porvorim, local residents operating homestays in hinterland areas will be offered financial incentives and support. 'The Homestay Scheme is focused on promoting hinterland tourism and empowering women operators by giving them a platform to showcase their offerings. It will improve access to wildlife sanctuaries and village destinations," Sawant said. Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte highlighted the scheme's alignment with the state's 'Goa Beyond Beaches' vision. 'This is a focused effort to empower women and promote community-based tourism. Most homestays are run by women, and this scheme will strengthen their role in the tourism economy," he said. The minister said MoUs with platforms like Airbnb and ongoing training programmes will help scale up rural tourism in Goa. State Tourism Director Kedar Naik said the scheme is aimed at promoting regenerative tourism and empowering women and youth entrepreneurs. 'The scheme marks a strategic shift from policy to implementation. It offers both fiscal and non-fiscal incentives, simplified registration, quality classification of homestays, and promotional support through the state tourism department's platforms. Under the scheme, eligible establishments in Sattari, Sanguem, Dharbandora, Bicholim, Canacona, Ponda, and Quepem talukas will receive a one-time grant of Rs 2 lakh," Naik said. 'They will also benefit from training, marketing assistance, and subsidised participation in tourism trade fairs. The scheme will be valid for five years and may be extended further," he added. Bicholim MLA Chandrakant Shetye, Mayem MLA Premendra Shet, Tourism Secretary Sanjeev Ahuja, among others, were present at the event.
