Andhra four-lane corridor receives cabinet approval
NEW DELHI: The Union cabinet on Wednesday approved a road corridor in Andhra Pradesh at an estimated cost of Rs 3,653.10 crore and two additional railway lines in Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra to be built with an investment of Rs 3,399 crore, signalling a major push for infrastructure creation in the country.
The 108.134 km, four-lane Badvel-Nellore Corridor on national highway (NH) 67 will be built on design-build-finance-operate-transfer (DBFOT) mode. It will provide connectivity to important nodes in the three industrial corridors of Andhra Pradesh-Kopparthy node on the Vishakhapatnam-Chennai Industrial Corridor, Orvakal node on Hyderabad-Bengaluru Industrial Corridor and Krishnapatnam node on Chennai-Bengaluru Industrial Corridor-and will have a positive impact on India's Logistics Performance Index, said a government statement.
The proposed corridor will reduce the travel distance to Krishnapatnam port by 33.9 km to 108.13 km from 142 km as compared to the existing Badvel-Nellore road. It will reduce the travel time by one hour and ensure that substantial gain is achieved in terms of reduced fuel consumption, thereby reducing carbon footprint and vehicle operating cost. The project will generate about 2 million man-days of direct employment and 2.3 million man-days of indirect employment, besides inducing additional employment opportunities due to increase in economic activity in the vicinity of the proposed corridor.
Railway projects
To enhance line capacity, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs also approved two multitracking projects of the Indian Railways to ensure seamless and faster transportation of both passengers and goods.
These are the 3rd and 4th line on the Ratlam-Nagda route and the 4th line on Wardha-Balharshah route. These projects, covering four districts in Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh, will increase the existing Railways network by about 176 km and will be completed by 2029-30.Responding to queries from ET on the incremental cargo and passenger handling capacity because of these projects, Union railwaysminister Ashwini Vaishnaw said it would lead to 18.40 million tonnes per annum of additional freight traffic. "Bottlenecks on the Ratlam-Nagda and Wardha-Balharshah routes will be eased, resulting in more passenger movement as well since track availability will increase," Vaishnaw said.

Bank fraud amount increased three times to Rs 36,014 crore in 2024-'25, says RBI
The amount involved in bank frauds increased three times to Rs 36,014 in the financial year 2024-'25, showed data from the Reserve Bank of India. The amount involved in bank frauds was Rs 12,230 crore in the previous financial year 2023-'24, according to the central bank's annual report released on Wednesday. The central bank attributed the increase to 'removal of fraud classification in 122 cases amounting to Rs 18,674 crore reported during the previous financial year and reporting afresh during the current financial year after re-examination and ensuring compliance' with a March 2023 judgement of the Supreme Court. The number of registered cases of fraud fell to 23,953 in 2024-'25 from 36,060 in the previous year. Private banks accounted for 59.4% (Rs 10,088 crore) of all fraud cases, the data showed. Public sector banks accounted for 29% (Rs 25,667 crore) of the cases. In 2024-'25, the frauds, in terms of numbers, took place mainly in the category of digital payments in terms of numbers and predominantly in the loan portfolio in terms of the value, the central bank said. The central bank's annual report added that the data pertained to frauds of Rs 1 lakh and above that were reported during the financial year. The frauds reported during 2024-'25 could have taken place in previous years before they were reported, it added.

With the launch of the Galaxy S25 Edge earlier this month, Samsung has now completed its flagship lineup for 2025. The series now includes four models — the Galaxy S25, S25 Plus, S25 Edge, and the S25 Ultra. While the standard, Plus, and Ultra variants were introduced back in January during the Galaxy Unpacked event in San Jose, California, the Edge model was only recently launched globally on May 13, after being teased at the same Unpacked event. Now that all four phones are available for purchase, the big question is: which one should you go for?advertisementGalaxy S25 series: Price and offersSamsung's entire Galaxy S25 lineup is now available through major online and offline stores, as well as on the official Samsung India S25: The entry-level model starts at Rs 74,999 for the 128GB version. The 256GB and 512GB variants are priced at Rs 80,999 and Rs 92,999, respectively. It's available in Icy Blue, Silver Shadow, Navy, and Mint. If you're buying from Samsung's website, you also get access to online-exclusive shades like Blue Black, Coral Red, and Pink Gold. Offers include an instant discount of up to Rs 10,000 on select bank cards and no-cost EMI plans for up to 12 months. Galaxy S25+: The Plus model starts at Rs 99,999 for the 256GB variant, and the 512GB version is priced at Rs 1,11,999. It comes in Navy and Silver Shadow, while online buyers can choose from exclusive shades such as Coral Red, Blue Black, and Pink Gold. Similar to the base model, the same bank offers and EMI plans S25 Edge: The latest addition to the series, the S25 Edge, is priced at Rs 1,09,999 for the 256GB version and Rs 1,21,999 for the 512GB variant. It's available in Titanium Silver and Titanium Jetblack. While Samsung hasn't officially updated the product page with offers, you can expect similar discounts — up to Rs 11,000 off with certain cards and no-cost EMI options for up to 12 months — as seen on other S25 Ultra: The top-end Ultra starts at Rs 1,29,999 for the 256GB variant. Online-only shades include Titanium Jade Green, Titanium Jet Black, and Titanium Pink Gold. It features a 6.2-inch display — the same size as the previous model — but has slightly narrower bezels this time around. For the first time in the standard Galaxy S model, you now get 12GB RAM across all three storage options — 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB. The 4,000mAh battery can comfortably see you through a full day of light to moderate use, usually ending the day with around 10 per cent charge left. It comes with Gorilla Glass Victus 2 on both sides and a durable aluminium S25+: If you're after a bigger screen but don't want to spend on the Ultra, the Galaxy S25+ might hit the sweet spot. It offers a 6.7-inch display, just like its predecessor, and houses a 4,900mAh battery. This model too, features 12GB RAM with storage options of 256GB and 512GB. The camera setup is shared with the base S25, including a 50-megapixel primary sensor, a 12-megapixel ultra-wide lens, and a 10-megapixel telephoto camera with 3x zoom. Up front, you get a 12MP selfie S25 Edge: The Edge variant blends several elements from other models in the series. It's ideal for users who want a lightweight phone — it weighs only 163g — without compromising on screen size, offering a 6.7-inch panel like the Plus. It also features a premium titanium frame similar to the Ultra and has an ultraslim 5.8mm thickness. The Edge stands out with its design. While it includes a powerful 200-megapixel main camera like the Ultra, it skips the telephoto lens, which even the S25 and S25+ include. So, it's more about style and sleekness here. If you're okay with making a few compromises — mainly in battery size and camera versatility — the Edge is a compelling option. It's available in 256GB and 512GB storage S25 Ultra: For those wanting the very best, the Ultra is still the top pick. It features a large 6.9-inch screen and is the only model in the lineup to include the S Pen, making it a great option for creatives and professionals who like to sketch or sign documents on the go. Samsung has also trimmed down the design, making this year's Ultra thinner and lighter compared to the S24 Ultra. It sports a titanium build and uses Gorilla Armor 2 glass, which is more scratch-resistant and reduces glare. The 5,000mAh battery delivers excellent endurance. Camera upgrades include a 200-megapixel primary sensor, a new 50-megapixel ultra-wide, a 10-megapixel telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom, and a 50-megapixel periscope telephoto camera with 5x zoom. This one's available in 256GB, 512GB, and a massive 1TB version.

Bihar Politics: RJD's Tejashwi Yadav Hits Out At PM Modi Post-State Visit, Raises 11 Queries On Development
A day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi's two-day visit to Bihar, Leader of the Opposition (LoP) and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav launched a fierce counterattack, questioning the Prime Minister's silence on key issues facing the state. Taking to the social media platform X, LoP Yadav accused the NDA government of failing to develop Bihar despite being in power for 20 years in the state and 11 years at the Centre. In a strongly worded post, he wrote: "There is record-breaking unemployment, poverty, and migration in Bihar, all of which are the bitter gifts of the NDA's two-decade-long rule." He cited NITI Aayog data, saying that Bihar ranks at the bottom in critical sectors like education, healthcare, law and order, industry, and per capita income. Accusing PM Modi of ignoring real issues, LoP Yadav said: "The Prime Minister comes to Bihar only in election years, and each time, he repeats the same old announcements and inaugurations, some dating back to 2015." To drive home his point, he released a poster featuring a half-face image of PM Modi with the caption "Mouh Khula Hi Nahi", claiming the Prime Minister remained silent on the health status of CM Nitish Kumar, unemployment and job creation, the poor state of Bihar's healthcare, rising crime and lawlessness, failing education system, Bihar's long-pending demand for special state status, the safety of business owners and traders, absence of industrial development, lack of new investments, continued migration of Biharis and widespread poverty in the state. During his visit, PM Modi launched and inaugurated projects worth Rs 48,500 crore, including infrastructure and agricultural projects, and saluted the armed forces for their valour in Operation Sindoor. He also conducted a roadshow on Thursday and addressed a large rally in Karakat (Bikramganj) on Friday. However, LoP Yadav dismissed these as repetitive electoral stunts, arguing that the people of Bihar are now aware of such misleading statements and hollow promises. "This is Bihar – and Biharis know exactly who is telling the truth and who is not," he asserted.
