Bihar Politics: RJD's Tejashwi Yadav Hits Out At PM Modi Post-State Visit, Raises 11 Queries On Development
A day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi's two-day visit to Bihar, Leader of the Opposition (LoP) and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav launched a fierce counterattack, questioning the Prime Minister's silence on key issues facing the state.
Taking to the social media platform X, LoP Yadav accused the NDA government of failing to develop Bihar despite being in power for 20 years in the state and 11 years at the Centre.
In a strongly worded post, he wrote: "There is record-breaking unemployment, poverty, and migration in Bihar, all of which are the bitter gifts of the NDA's two-decade-long rule."
He cited NITI Aayog data, saying that Bihar ranks at the bottom in critical sectors like education, healthcare, law and order, industry, and per capita income.
Accusing PM Modi of ignoring real issues, LoP Yadav said: "The Prime Minister comes to Bihar only in election years, and each time, he repeats the same old announcements and inaugurations, some dating back to 2015."
To drive home his point, he released a poster featuring a half-face image of PM Modi with the caption "Mouh Khula Hi Nahi", claiming the Prime Minister remained silent on the health status of CM Nitish Kumar, unemployment and job creation, the poor state of Bihar's healthcare, rising crime and lawlessness, failing education system, Bihar's long-pending demand for special state status, the safety of business owners and traders, absence of industrial development, lack of new investments, continued migration of Biharis and widespread poverty in the state.
During his visit, PM Modi launched and inaugurated projects worth Rs 48,500 crore, including infrastructure and agricultural projects, and saluted the armed forces for their valour in Operation Sindoor.
He also conducted a roadshow on Thursday and addressed a large rally in Karakat (Bikramganj) on Friday.
However, LoP Yadav dismissed these as repetitive electoral stunts, arguing that the people of Bihar are now aware of such misleading statements and hollow promises.
"This is Bihar – and Biharis know exactly who is telling the truth and who is not," he asserted.

SC declines to interfere with HC order on compensation to OJS examinee
Cuttack: The Supreme Court on Friday declined to interfere with the Orissa high court's direction to Odisha Public Service Commission (OPSC) to pay Rs 1 lakh compensation for procedural lapses that resulted in non-evaluation of an answer of a candidate who appeared for the Odisha Judicial Service (Main) Examination. She failed to qualify for the next stage by a narrow margin of five marks. Acting on Jyotirmayee's petition, the HC directed OPSC to pay the compensationto her within 60 days on Feb 13 this year. But OPSC had filed a special leave petition (SLP) in SC challenging the HC order. While dismissing the SLP, the bench of Justices Surya Kant, Dipankar Datta and Bijay Bishnoi said, "Having regard to the peculiar facts and circumstances of this case, we are not inclined to interfere with the cost amount awarded by the high court in favour of the respondent — a young law graduate, who is aspiring to become a judicial officer." However, the bench added, "The observations made in the impugned judgment are only in the context of the mistake detected in evaluation of one of the answers written by the respondent and the same are not to be treated as a precedent to be applied in future cases." According to case records, Jyotirmayee filed a petition in HC on Aug 27, 2024 alleging that a question in the 'law of property' paper was left unevaluated, and its marks were not added to the total. She asserted that if her answers had been properly scrutinised, the outcome of the examination would have been different, and she would have qualified for the next stage. Acting on it, the HC arranged for her answer script to be independently assessed by experts from three reputed universities. Though non-evaluation of a question was confirmed and marks were awarded for it, the petitioner did not achieve the necessary marks to pass the exam. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Accordingly, the HC dismissed the petition on Feb 13, but ordered, "However, considering the mental trauma and financial burden the petitioner has endured in pursuing this case to highlight the said lapse, this court deems it appropriate to award compensation of Rs 1 lakh to the petitioner, which shall be paid by the OPSC within a period of 60 days from the date of this judgment."

Civil defence mock drill held across 33 Gujarat districts
The second civil defence mock drill, which was postponed on May 29, took place today across all 33 districts in the state. According to officials, this particular exercise was conducted in a more strategic and organised manner. While black outs and exercises were conducted across all the border districts including Kutch, Patan and Banaskantha, the black outs were imposed only at select locations in inland districts. 'In Ahmedabad, the mock drill and accompanying black outs took place only in the Army Cantonment area in the city, and just Viramgam town in the rural swathe of the district,' said Collector Sujeet Kumar. Senior civil defence officials in Gujarat confided that this mock drill, the second one after the one conducted on May 7, was carried out with specific objectives and taking into consideration high risk areas and possible targets for potential air attacks. In the coming days, the government has asked for a comprehensive report to be prepared on the outcome of the exercises so that the preparation levels can be judged and better with each iteration of future mock drills. Following the horrific Pahalgam attack on April 22, India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7, decimating terror infrastructure in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir and Pakistan. The two nations announced cessation of hostilities on May 10.
