Tej Pratap Yadav Supports Rabri Devi's Call For Nishant As CM, Blames Nitish For Crime Surge
Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tej Pratap Yadav on Monday backed his mother Rabri Devi's call for Chief Minister Nitish Kumar to hand over the reins to his son Nishant Kumar, citing the deteriorating law-and-order situation in Bihar. Speaking to reporters outside the Bihar Assembly, Tej Pratap said, 'Crime is at its peak, and the government is completely inactive. No action is being taken.' He added that Rabri Devi's remarks were made after 'careful consideration' and reiterated his long-standing belief that youth should be given leadership opportunities. Earlier in the day, Rabri Devi, former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition in the Bihar Legislative Council, criticised Nitish Kumar over rising crime across the state and suggested that if he is unable to control the situation, he should transfer the Chief Minister's post to his son Nishant Kumar. The opposition's attack comes amid a surge in criminal incidents in Patna and other districts, raising questions about the effectiveness of the Nitish-led NDA government and its policing apparatus. Responding to speculation about his electoral plans, Tej Pratap said he may contest from Bakhtiyarpur or Mahaddipur, but will ultimately choose a constituency based on public demand. 'I have done a lot of work in Mahua, and I will contest from wherever people want me to,' he said. Tej Pratap's appearance at the Assembly also drew attention due to recent personal developments. He had publicly revealed a 12-year relationship with Anushka Yadav, following which his father, RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav, expelled him from the party and disowned him from the family. His statements and presence during the monsoon session have added fuel to Bihar's evolving political narrative, with leadership succession and youth representation emerging as key themes ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections.

Tejashwi seeks support from Opposition and ruling parties over SIR in Bihar
Leader of the Opposition Tejashwi Yadav on Sunday (July 20, 2025) shared letters he had written to 35 leaders seeking their support in the fight against the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise in Bihar, alleging large-scale disenfranchisement. The Rashtriya Janata Dal leader has posted the letter on X. Along with Opposition leaders at the national level, Mr. Yadav has also written letters to ruling coalition leaders at the Centre and the State, including Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Lok Janshakti Party (RV) national president Chirag Paswan, Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular) founder Jitan Ram Manjhi, Telugu Desam Party national president N. Chandrababu Naidu, All Jharkhand Students Union (AJSU) president Sudhesh Mahto, and Apna Dal (Soneylal) party president Anupriya Patel. Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and CPI-(ML) general secretary Dipankar Bhattacharya were also among those who received the letters. In the letter, Mr. Yadav said that he was writing the letter with a deep sense of anguish and urgency. 'The farce and tragedy of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) going on in Bihar has shaken the very foundation of democracy through large-scale disenfranchisement. It is a clear indication of how the independent institution of the Election Commission is adamant on eroding public trust in the integrity of our electoral process,' Mr. Yadav said in the letter. He further wrote that every person in the country, irrespective of their background or status, is proud of their vote and the ability to participate in the governance of the country is deeply empowering. Expressing apprehension, Mr. Yadav said that lakhs of voters, for no fault of their own, are being disempowered and humiliated. 'According to the EC press note dated July 16, 2025, around 4.5% of the population has already been left out because they were not 'not found at their addresses'. This is in addition to the 4% who 'probably' passed away or have permanently shifted. Going by these numbers, journalists on the ground and political scientists closely observing the exercise put the disenfranchisement figure at a whopping 12% to 15%. This is unprecedented in the history of our country,' Mr. Yadav said. Raising questions on the timing of revision, Mr. Yadav pointed out that even the Supreme Court had hinted at suspicion. He added that the EC had not done itself any favours by announcing and carrying out the exercise in a haphazard and high-handed manner. Mr. Yadav alleged that the poll body has not been transparent and it is making and breaking its own rules on the fly. 'Worse, they are targeting anyone and everyone who demands transparency and accountability,' Mr. Yadav said. The former Deputy Chief Minister said the experience of the Maharashtra Assembly elections are still fresh in the memory, and he was still waiting for a proper response from the EC. 'Now it is Bihar's turn. This needs to be resisted in the strongest terms possible. Because, if we do not raise our voices and register our strong protest, the same will be carried out in other States as well. The Constitution demands that we defend the republic. We should not be found wanting at this historical juncture,' Mr. Yadav said.

Narendra Modi's Bihar visit was an empty bundle: Manoj Kumar Jha
Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) Rajya Sabha member and party's national chief spokesperson Manoj Kumar Jha on Friday (July 18, 2025) termed Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Motihari visit without any vision and emotion. Mr. Jha also said that his speech was an empty bundle and Mr. Modi made a mockery of democracy by calling the ₹7200 crore scheme a (Saugaat) gift. He pointed out that everyone knows that the development schemes run through the government with the hard-earned tax money of the poor, farmers, labourers, doctors, lawyers, businessmen of Bihar. 'The kind of language he used is not something that we associate with democracy but with monarchy. Neither is he a Mughal emperor nor any king, he should avoid such vocabulary. It is not appropriate at all. The Prime Minister should stop using such terminology,'Mr. Jha said while addressing the press at the party office. He added, 'It is a humble request from PM Modi not to change the wrapper of running projects, nor to change the wrapper of those projects which have already been announced in the budget. We don't have any ill intention towards any of the states, but all the capital flow is for Gujarat, and you come to Bihar to inaugurate B-grade trains so that labourers can go to Gujarat.' Lashing out at the PM, Mr. Jha alleged that Mr. Modi does everything for Gujarat but nothing for Bihar. 'The tradition of investing capital in Gujarat and taking labourers from Bihar will not continue anymore,'Mr. Jha said. He asked those who talk about making Patna like Pune should tell whether they have ever seen such scary images in Paras Hospital in Bihar? The RJD leader mentioned about the private hospital shootout in which a prisoner was shot dead inside hospital by five shooters on Thursday and police are yet to make any breakthrough in the case. The RJD leader asserted that what will Mr. Modi say when the situation in Bihar is like Mahajungle Raj and he also knows that a government with no sensitivity is running in Bihar. Without naming anyone, Mr. Jha alleged that the government in Bihar is running from Delhi Durbar and those who were supposed to run Bihar are not even able to run their own house. Reminding the PM about his old speech Mr. Jha said that 11 years ago in Motihari Narendra Modi himself had said that he will start the Motihari sugar mill and drink tea from the same sugar mill. 'Till date the people of Motihari are still waiting and thinking that the sugar mill will start functioning before Mr. Modi reaches Motihari today. But nothing happened. His visit was empty bundle without any emotion and vision,'Mr. Jha said. He asserted that the double engine government is forced to follow the line drawn by RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav for jobs, employment, development, for women and for the poor in Bihar. Professor Jha listed out that in 17 months, Tejashwi Yadav gave 5.5 lakh jobs and left 3.5 lakh jobs pending. Expressing confidence, Mr. Jha said that in the coming days, under the leadership of Tejashwi Yadav, investment will come to Bihar and Bihar will bring labourers from Gujarat.

Bihar rally: Men waive black flags at PM Modi during speech; three detained
NEW DELHI: Three people were detained in Bihar for allegedly waiving black flags at Prime Minister Narendra Modi's rally in East Champaran district on Friday, the police said. "Yes, three persons were caught at the venue of the rally, carrying pieces of black cloth. We will examine the nature of the disruption they might have caused. The opposition, Rashtriya Janata Dal, shared the video of the rally which showed men clinging to a pole under the canopy and waving black flags in protest. "At Prime Minister Modi's rally in Motihari, he was shown black flags! For 20 years, the interests of Bihar's youth have been grossly neglected, 80% of young people are unemployed, and they lack sufficient means and resources for income and employment! Despite this, the incompetent government's focus is solely on misleading Bihar's people with false promises to grab power and, in doing so, depriving poor Biharis of their right to vote!" RJD said, sharing the video on X. According to East Champaran SP Swarn Prabhat, "the trio was trying to draw attention towards the moribund sugar industry in the region". Town Police Station in-charge Inspector Rajiv Ranjan said the three detainees, Jitendra Tiwari, Vikrant Gautam, and Ravikant Ravi, hail from various areas within the district.

Supreme Court declines Lalu Prasad Yadav's plea to stay Land-for-Jobs trial
The Supreme Court on Friday (18 July 2025) declined to entertain a petition by Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Yadav seeking a stay on trial court proceedings in the land-for-jobs case. Yadav had approached the Apex Court challenging the Delhi High Courts earlier order that rejected his plea to halt the trial. He argued that the First Information Report (FIR) against him was filed without the necessary sanction under the Prevention of Corruption Act. However, a bench comprising Justices M. M. Sundresh and N. Kotiswar Singh observed that the issue did not warrant Supreme Court intervention and should instead be addressed by the Delhi High Court. The High Court had previously permitted Yadav to raise his objections before the trial court but refused to stall the proceedings. With the top court stepping aside, the trial in the land-for-jobs case will proceed as scheduled in the lower court.
