Tej Pratap Yadav Supports Rabri Devi's Call For Nishant As CM, Blames Nitish For Crime Surge
Speaking to reporters outside the Bihar Assembly, Tej Pratap said, 'Crime is at its peak, and the government is completely inactive. No action is being taken.' He added that Rabri Devi's remarks were made after 'careful consideration' and reiterated his long-standing belief that youth should be given leadership opportunities.
Earlier in the day, Rabri Devi, former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition in the Bihar Legislative Council, criticised Nitish Kumar over rising crime across the state and suggested that if he is unable to control the situation, he should transfer the Chief Minister's post to his son Nishant Kumar.
The opposition's attack comes amid a surge in criminal incidents in Patna and other districts, raising questions about the effectiveness of the Nitish-led NDA government and its policing apparatus.
Responding to speculation about his electoral plans, Tej Pratap said he may contest from Bakhtiyarpur or Mahaddipur, but will ultimately choose a constituency based on public demand. 'I have done a lot of work in Mahua, and I will contest from wherever people want me to,' he said.
Tej Pratap's appearance at the Assembly also drew attention due to recent personal developments. He had publicly revealed a 12-year relationship with Anushka Yadav, following which his father, RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav, expelled him from the party and disowned him from the family.
His statements and presence during the monsoon session have added fuel to Bihar's evolving political narrative, with leadership succession and youth representation emerging as key themes ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections.

Shiv Sena minister lands in trouble over Rapido sponsorship after crackdown on firm
MUMBAI: Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena Minister Pratap Sarnaik has found himself embroiled in controversy over allegations of misusing his ministerial position to pressure Rapido, a bike taxi service provider, into sponsoring his son's Pro Govinda League 2025 event. According to the allegations, in July, Sarnaik booked a Rapido bike under a pseudonym from Mantralaya. When the bike arrived, he questioned the rider about operating without state government permission. He then reportedly called Rapido's manager, threatening to file an FIR and take strict action. However, instead of pursuing legal measures, Sarnaik allegedly secured sponsorship from Rapido for the Pro Govinda event, organized by his son, Purvesh Sarnaik. Maharashtra Congress Legislative Party leader Vijay Wadettiwar accused the minister of staging a crackdown on Rapido only to later strike a deal for sponsorship. Wadettiwar claimed that while the state faces financial constraints for critical projects, Sarnaik has demonstrated how to extort funds for personal events. In response, Sarnaik denied any wrongdoing, stating that connecting the Pro Govinda event with politics was "wrong." He claimed he had taken action against Rapido on July 2, while the sponsorship was finalized on May 26—before the alleged confrontation. "I fearlessly acted against the company even though it was sponsoring my son's event. Instead of appreciating this, some are opposing it unnecessarily," he said. His son, Purvesh, also denied any link between his father's actions and the sponsorship, asserting that the deal was secured a month prior. NCP (SP) MLA Rohit Pawar criticized Sarnaik for misusing his ministerial authority, calling it a breach of his oath. "CM Fadnavis must investigate this seriously and take appropriate action," Pawar said. The controversy has sparked a political row, with opposition leaders demanded Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis take action against Sarnaik for exploiting his authority for personal gain.

10 lakh families adopted under Andhras P4 scheme: Official
Amaravati, Aug 7 (PTI) Andhra Pradesh Chief Secretary K Vijayanand on Thursday said that 10 lakh 'bangaru kutumbams' have been adopted under the state's P4 poverty eradication programme, stressing that the adoption of poor families by 'margadarsis' is voluntary, not coercive. The 'P4 Margadarsi-Bangaru Kutumbam' programme was launched by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on March 30 in Amaravati. Under the scheme, economically affluent individuals who voluntarily support financially weaker families are termed 'margadarsis' (mentors), while the beneficiaries are referred to as 'bangaru kutumbams' (golden families). The programme envisions the top 10 per cent of society adopting and mentoring the bottom 20 per cent to help lift them out of poverty. 'The government's intention is that 'bangaru kutumbams' should be adopted voluntarily by mentors, and no one should be forced into it," Vijayanand said in an official press release. The TDP-led NDA government has set a target of linking 15 lakh 'bangaru kutumbams' with 'margadarsis' by August 15. Of these, 10 lakh have already been adopted, the chief secretary noted. He also directed officials to complete the needs assessment survey under the P4 programme within two days, adding that a special handbook has been prepared to address any questions about the scheme. Vijayanand said district collectors have been instructed to fully understand all aspects of the P4 model—'Public-Private-People Partnership'—and take the necessary steps to implement the poverty eradication programme effectively.
