Sudbury police seize $200K in stolen property in Wahnapitae
Police in Greater Sudbury have charged a 34-year-old man after a search warrant uncovered more than $200,000 in stolen property taken in thefts dating back as far as 10 years.
Police raided the Wahnapitae property Aug. 9, following an investigation of a suspect believed to be responsible for at least five property crimes between 2015 and this year.
'During the search, detectives seized over $200,000 in stolen property consisting of -- but not limited to -- heavy equipment and trailers,' police said in a news release Friday.
Thefts from across the province
'The items recovered were stolen from residents across the province.'
The man has been charged with five counts of possession of property obtained by crime worth more than $5,000.
He was released on an appearance notice with a court date of Oct. 29.
Police also praised their BEAR (break, enter and robbery) unit in the release, saying they 'demonstrated investigative skill and dedication in connecting a series of property-related crimes that occurred across the province.'
'Through evidence collection, analysis, and collaboration with partnering agencies, they identified and arrested the individual believed to be responsible for these offences,' police said.
'Their diligent efforts not only brought a suspect into custody but also led to the recovery of approximately $200,000 worth of stolen property, returning valuable items to their rightful owners and reinforcing our commitment to community safety and well-being.'
